Start the game, log in, and click the "Select mech" button in the top left. From there, choose "Trial" instead of "Owned"
For your first 25 matches you receive an extra stipend called "Cadet's Bonus". Save every single cent of it. Once you've experimented with enough trial mechs to figure out what you like or don't like, then come here to the forums, and we can help you choose your first mech to purchase, and upgrade.
WARNING: The game is difficult, and takes no prisoners. There is no "Vs. AI" mode in this game. You can hop into the training grounds to shoot mechs that are standing still, and experiment with your mechs, but that's about it. (I recommend you always hop into the training grounds when trying out a mech for the first time.)
Also, Disable third person view from the settings menu. It's really not helpful.

The game itself is a separate program you have to save to your computer and install. It's not a web browser game.
Log in, then at the top, the big blue play for free now button turns into download now.

After downloading the file, run it to install the patcher, then when you run the patcher it downloads and installs the game, be warned, MWO is about a 7gb download, when it finishes the download it still has to install before you can play, if you have a great internet connection and a high spec PC it will still take at least an hour to download and install, it will more likely take 2+ hours and if you do not have a great connection it could take a lot longer.

Sell price is 50%.
Got to the main screen, select "Inventory" and sell items from there. I am personally of the "never sell any engine" mentality. You will need most of them.

But again, you should hold onto stuff for awhile. You don't get much back for it and you might find a use for it down the road. If you find yourself with a massive surplus, sure, sell some of it. Medium lasers and regular heat sinks are a-plenty.

Or does it not matter that once I get my last Wolverine to finish Basic tier yet still be still be able to continue unlocking the elite tiers of the other 2 Wolverines?
Sorry for the question, but that has always left me scratching my head and truth to tell, I cannot be bothered having to go through having to then unlock all elite tiers on 3 chassis of the same 'Mech?
Thank you kindly for any and all replies and I apologise if I have asked tis question before

For the record. Since it's wolverines, that's mediums. If you already have 2 other medium mechs on full elites, you don't need to worry about keeping three wolverines to get to master level.
Here's how the system basically works:
1- You need 3 VARIANTS of this chassis to have full basics for elites to be unlocked.
2- You 3 CHASSIS (so you can have one wolverine, one centurion, and one balckjack) on full elites to unlock master level for a mech in that weight class.
3- When you have full elites on a variant, all of it's basic skills are DOUBLED in effect.
4- When you have a variant MASTERED, you gain an extra module slot, that can fit mech, or weapon modules.

So if i am understanding this right I can have an orion, a thunderbolt and a vulture all brought to elite and get the double basic effects?

to unlock elite you must complete the basic skills on 3 variants of a Mech e.g. 3 different Orions, when you have done that you can complete the elite skills (sometimes referred to as eliting the Mech) to get the doubled basics on any one Mech, you need 3 varients of a Mech to basic then you can take one (or more) of them to full elite and get the doubled basics.
if you want to unlock the extra module slot you need to complete the elite skills on 3 different Mechs in a weight class, e.g. a Dragon, Hellbringer and Orion, or 3 Orion variants to unlock it then you can complete the Master skill Mastering the Mech

Thanks kindly, everyone for explaining all of that to me. Though you will have to excuse for being ignorant, since I have only been playing since around the middle of February, this year.
And an update to an earlier post over whether or not I would choose to sell one Wolverine once I got them all to the full basic tier, I ended up selling the 6K, since I am not much one for using ballistic weapons (my aim is terrible, since I am still running an old laptop and some maps lag me out far too much *cough* Snow city, The Mining Collective and Veridian Bog *cough* but once I finish the Elite tier for the other two Wolverines, I will think again if I should rebuy the 6K just to get the 7k (my favourite, by far) to Master or not.
Still, with 2 Centurions at Master, 1 Hunchback, 1 Raven 3L and 1 Vindicator (would be 2 if I did not sell the cn9-a) I think I will just settle for it being unmastered, despite the perks Master comes with.
