O-O oh...well, I don't even actually have the game downloaded. I'm trting to get a compatible PC for it. It just looked so cool I had to get it in advance so I wouldn't need to take the extra time. But now...I feel like I'm screwed...xD

What Treciel meant is when you play your first 25 matches you get a huge 'stimulus' package called a cadet bonus. Premium time (a 50% bonus to cbills and experience earned) will boost the cadet bonus by 50% which is a huge boost. So he was saying find out how to get it before you finish your 25 matches.

Since you haven't started, you're perfectly fine. :D

Not sure I follow, but if your PC allows, you get a free day of Premium Time when you start (+50% XP and C-bills) as well as a huge "Cadet Bonus" (8MM C-bills ish) over your first 25 matches. PT does multiply this, so it's wise to activate that PT and play your first 25 matches in 24 hours. No matter how bad you play, this will position you to buy one very good and well equipped Medium or Heavy mech.

Oh! Ok...I thought you meant it expires when you sign up. Thanks for telling me that! I knew about the 25 match bonus, but not the other one! Man, I am learning at leaset 2x as much as I intended. :D

Make sure to check the forums for 'mech recommendations (I even have a thread up on it in this forum) before you purchase your first 'mech, to make sure you get something you want and that will last you.

The game gets a hundred times more fun once you own a 'mech and aren't stuck in terrible pre configs!

A simple question: What does the command console do.
I ask because the description is missing and no stats expect weight, slots and hitpoints are displayed :)

It does nothing currently. Just a placeholder.

Yup. Feel free to tear it out of your Atlas (I think that's the only mech that actually comes with one stock)

It is simply a placeholder as said by the others. It is a required part of the Atlas D-DC's tonnage.

In terms of lore, it's a secondary seat where a commander would sit. In the way the game works, however, there is nothing to govern who gets to be the D-DC and thus no way to implement it as an actual commander's role. The game as designed cannot support a player who does nothing more than ride an Atlas as a passenger and give out commands, either, nor would it be particularly fun given that players have no reason to listen to such a commander.

At last speculation it would have something to do with airstrikes and the like, but even then those became consumable modules and quite literally any real purpose for the command console has been obliterated. The most recent statement is that it has to wait (like everything else) for U.I. 2.0 ™.

There are some uses for it. You can use it to buffer damage to protect components, but Gauss Ammo or Double Heatsinks are simply better for that task. You could also use it as a 1.5 ton paper weight. You could, of course, sell it for some sort of 'rebate' on your Atlas D-DC.

I wouldn't recommend this, since it might actually turn out to be useful down the road, then you would have to buy it back.

Months to maybe another year later. And it'll only be 300,000 cbills, 150,000 more than you got for selling it. A single match difference.

Actually it's worth 1 million C-Bills to buy and 500 thousand to sell :)

The "never sell anything" mentality I see often around here is misguided on a number of levels, this being just one of them. I keep thinking I'll write a long post regarding time value of money, replacement values and risk tolerance to explain why, but I haven't done it.

500k to use now is almost certainly more valuable than 1MM you may or may not spend at some unspecified point in the future.

See? Could've made more selling it if you had waited!

Seriously though,. if Terciel would go back he would see that I didn't say never sell anything, I said I wouldn't recommend it. In part, because I wasn't launching into my sermon about selling, I was trying to make a short statement for a NEW PLAYER that may do a drive by on this thread.

I sell stuff. I've even sold engines and mechs. I waited however until I knew I wouldn't need them, or the odds were outweighed by the need for the cash. However a newbie most likely doesn't have the knowledge or perspective to know what will be useful down the road and what won't.

I agree, 5 matches to get it back isn't a big deal, but if you were going to keep the cash around anyway, why sell it? So it would actually be 10 matches. 5 of which would just be to get you back to where you were, so you are 500K in the hole for no good reason. Why not just run the 5 matches now to get the 500K you need and still have the console/engine/etc?

Rinse repeat a dozen times and you are out millions. Keep it up for a year or two and you've thrown away a Light or two.....

There's dozens upon dozens of threads, it may not be just about you saying it. He did say "often see around here."

That's a fair point and I'm sorry to have hit you with my broad brush, Nick.

You're right, you didn't say it, but the fact is that I do often see comments like "never sell XL engines," "never sell weapons," etc. It frustrates me, because it's not really good advice when it's phrased in absolute terms. I think the rest of your post (which I clipped for space) says it very well, if you'll allow me to paraphrase: "It's probably not a great idea to sell much when you're new, because you can't make a really informed decision and are likely to regret it." But that's not what people usually say though. Apologies again, I read your post through a false lens.

Nah, my bad. I didn't mean for it to sound like I was bitching or pissed etc. Too much time spent on other forums lead me to sound snarky I imagine. We are all on the same side, even if we don't agree on all the details!

Reminds me of a few people that frequently get contended with.
Btw. Check this out. I'm filling requests for the perfect screenshot thread. Throw some in? Soon they'll have shots taken of them in combat.

@ Koniving and Terciel

Thanks for the answer concerning the Ammo Mechanism in a Mech. But, uhm, don't know how to say it, I can't find the Displays in my Mechs. There are only a lot of similar Displays saying "Autodetection - no signal found" and that's it. There is no Heatsink Display and no Ammo Display and I actually couldn't imagine that there are some really functional Displays.
Maybe I forgot to activate something? Is it cause of my screen resolution? Or maybe the Mechs itself? I'm running with a Shadow Hawk and Kintaro and haven't got anything else in my Mechbay by now.

:-(

I need to double check my Shadow Hawks I didn't see the ammo screen either.

I currently don't have a Kintaro to check it, but if I find anything I'll add it to this post.

I took it out a SHD in TG and can't see it either. And I also don't own Kintaros. Sorry. :/
