Sadface.

I was hoping for a drop into one of those two so that I could show a complete newb the basics, without annoying everyone over team chat.

It's one thing to say "go forth into the wild lands of the Academy and figure thine controls out" and quite another to directly explain the basics of weapon grouping, mouse sensitivity, practice targets, etc.

I would find some kind of voice chat system you can use to talk to each other, without involving the in game Viop. Curse is free and easy to use. There is also Team Speak, though you'd have to use a public server (which are out there). Discord is also a free chat program that seems easy to use (ish). If you are all using steam, or make accounts with them (which I believe is free), you should also be able to use their message system.

Then, group up and try your best together. Sadly, groups always will have it harder in this game, because you will only drop against other groups. Your PSR tier also wont be of as much help, as they are less relevant in Group Queue. If you take this path, I'd suggest you find a mech/build that can stick right behind them, and protect them as much as you can to help them learn the game.

This game does have a steep learning curve. If they have any questions about game mechanics, don't be afraid to ask them here, or send them here themselves to ask. Lots of us are willing to help when and were we can.

You can create a lobby and drop on the map you want to discuss. You'll both need active premium time to be able to lauch without full teams.
(protip: if you don't have premium, and don't want/can't activate some, create a new account, you're provided with one free day of premium)

Does the active probe's targeting info speed boost also mean faster missile locks?

No! This is a common mistake, actually. All that means is that you get enemy paper dolls faster.

I always forget that. Thanks.

Anyways, I have been wondering why certain features were removed and never re-implemented. For example: Mech to terrain contact. And what appears to be heated/damaged armor plates after being hit with a laser.

I've seen quite a few older videos of gameplay where these things are clearly working.

Was it player feedback (negative of course) that removed these features or were they removed due to bugs/etc...

Much Obliged for any answers.

These sound like issues of lower video settings.
on my screen, mechs walk on the ground. There are a few times it gets a little strange, like standing on a hill that isn't casting a shadow, or walking on a space that's a little narrower than the mech's foot space.
Also, lasers heat up plates and leave heat tracking after burning across a target.

If you're not seeing these things, check your video card and video settings. If everything is good, contact support.

Playing on the highest settings. have an Nvidia-960.

Mechs walk on the ground, but their legs typically are placed symmetrically, rather than say with a knee bent while climbing a hill.

And Lasers, the effects seems to be different is all, it appears as if components used to stay "Red hot" (Bright orange for a bit after being hit). I mean LAZORZ be hot right?

The effect I see mostly is an orange dot following where the beam lands, the trace of the beam on armor is typically black/grey.

They are looking at reimplementing this but no final decision yet.

Did you enable "Damage Glow" in Settings?

Also, they have dialed back some graphics from the early days due to the intense demands placed on lower end computers. I still remember back in the day, the Atlas eyes glowed ..... which made it a lot easier to go for headshots.

Well, that makes sense. I can certainly understand how the game could have been too intensive graphics wise. Would be nice to see MtT returned. THanks for the info.

So I'm having an issue with the mech bay.

i've bought two brand new clan omnimechs with my starter bonus. However I can not customize my weapons. I've tried literally every button or option on the screen and the only options I get are either weapons that are already equipped on the mech or a blank screen listing no weapons.

I did pick up an LRM through a crate drop.

So how do I go about buying new weapons? I've tried literally every option and tried buying literally every kind of item in the game (except real money ones) and can't find out where to get a weapon.

You just drag the weapon you want onto a location with the appropriate type of hardpoint. If you're seeing a list of no weapons, it's possible you have "owned" checked on up top and, not owning any weapons, get no results. Without seeing your screen, that's my best guess.

This is what the screen should look like:

Also, make sure the lists are opened (those little arrows on the right side, they default to minimized).

About the new skill tree system revealed at MechCon:

Did I understand correctly that the skill tree revamp will remove the requirement to level up 3 variants of a chassis?

The reason I ask, I've been playing my first Grasshopper (the 5P) recently, and now have basics unlocked for it. Though I love the 'mech, I don't really have any desire to buy and level second and third variants.

So if I understand correctly the new system, I might just "make do" with Basic skills, and then use any XP I gain beyond that when the new skill tree is available...

(Putting this here instead of General, as it's flooded with threads about MechCon announcements anyway.)

not realy a short answer but:
I just watched the twitch stream (it was a major pain finding the interesting stuff)

Russ did say you would no longer need to unlock skills on multiple variants to unlock the skill tree.

each Mech will have its individual skill tree so if you have 2 AS7-S you will have to skill them both individually
it also sounded like each variant will have its individual tree

the new skill tree looked like it would have a dozen or more "branches" and as you unlock a skill from 1 branch you can then unlock the next "twig" of that branch, presumably with diferant or longer/shorter branches on each Mech

in related news
Modules are being removed except consumables

the cbills and xp for all skills and modules you have unlocked\purchased will be refunded in full

and less related MW5 is coming in 2018
Faction play 4.1 coming soon
new escort quick play game mode coming next patch

here is a link to the twitch stream
https://www.twitch.t...mes/v/105055090
the announcements start at about 8 hours 51 minutes the skill tree revamp starts at about 9 hours 1 minute

Not a question, but some comments.

In my own time of doing a "design I'd want to see in a Mechwarrior game"...
This was one of the big things I wanted, so I'm happy.

Per the original design concept that never made it into MWO, though having several branches actually expands and improves that original concept that never made it into the game.

Quote

the cbills and xp for all skills and modules you have unlocked\purchased will be refunded in full

Per PGI tradition, one of the things I love about them.

Silly Q i should know... But the 2x daily XP boost, Does that work before or after premium time?

Basically is it baseXP+premium x2=XP, Or base x2 +(base premium bonus)=XP.. My point is does the premium double or not, I can't recall..

As far as I understand (and I could be very very wrong here as I'm not certain) it adds all the additional percentages together, and then applies that to your XP.

AKA: If you have a 50% from the event, a 50% from premium and 10% from your Champion mech, it will go XP+(XPx50%)+(XPx50%)+(XPx10%)=total XP.

In real numbers, say XP = 100.
100+(100x50%)+(100x50%)+(100x10%)=210 total XP.

(Though, as I said, I could be wrong. I honestly don't pay that much attention to it... Which I probably should correct.)

Edit: Or simple math would be, add all your additional percentages together and multiply the base. In above example, it would be 110% more experience. 100+(100x110%)=210.
Cheater math wants me to just multiply in this fashion. 100x(50%+50%+10%)=210 or condensed 100x2.10=210... But these are just different ways to say the same thing...

I think it's base XP x 2 + premium XP

Does premium give double XP (100%)? I thought it only did 50% more... (I don't normally have Premium running).

If this is the case, just change my above formula accordingly... Posted Image

Do be sure you are not on a trial mech... try filtering them out of your select mech view

Easy way to find out: look at your end of match screen. It shows the math in order.
