Typically?

Assault, Heavy, Medium, Light.

Start with your slowest mech, and work your way to lightest. This makes it so that you can reinforce faster as needed, compared to taking longer and longer to get back to supporting your team.

When my medium is light-ish fast (say 130), is it still better to drop him third when my light is faster or drop him last to have a bit more punch to work with in the final wave to ensure victory?

There is no right nor wrong answer here. I only stated what is typically advised and the reason why.

I personally use 4 Crabs, and I start with my longest ranged Crab, then move to my next longest range one. Then I go with my fast Crab, then my jump snipping Crab (unless the battle determines that I need speed or jumping sooner). I use an all Crab list because I find they work very well for me, and I an becoming very familiar with them. Most people would probably recommend I get a drop deck that maximizes on the available tonnage I can use, but honestly? I don't do very well in assault mechs...

In the end, it's up to you, what the situation is in the map, what you feel you/your team may tactically need, and/or what the team asks of you. (If they demand you do something, then it starts to become a toss up if you even wish to follow their demands anymore. But if they ask, I tend to do everything in my power to do what I can then.)

As I said, there is no right nor wrong answer here. It's preference and what your team may need tactically at that time.

Is there a way to increase missile range? There are plenty range quirks for other weapons but don't see any items or quirks for missiles.

there are Mechs with missile range quirks, and there are missile range modules, for a full list of quirks look here:
http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/
go to "Mech Quirks" along the top.

for missile range modules look for them in the pilot skills section of the skills tab in-game, you first have to unlock then then you can purchase the module, if a module does not say Clan it will not work with Clan Mechs, if it does say Clan it will not work with Inner Sphere Mechs

I highly, and I mean HIGHLY, advise against missile range modules for LRMs, if you're using them for that. If you're firing LRMs beyond 800 meters, you're wasting ammo, even on Alpine Peaks, your enemies will probably manage to evade the missiles at those distances.

If they're for SRMs or Streaks, go for it. Otherwise, it's a failed investment.

How often do premium packages come around? I am a noob player and have missed out on the early adopter bonus for all of the current packages. Some of which I would have been tempted to get.
Do they refresh with a new window, or get replaced when a new pack has been developed?
Cheers

last year they introduced 3 "big" 4 chassis packs and 5 "small" single chassis packs, they probably average every 1.5-2 months, Russ (head of PGI, the Developers) recently asked for ideas on what Clan Mechs to include in a new pack, so I would expect a new pack to be announced over the next few weeks, probably around the end of January during a "Town Hall" meeting as Russ has announced he wants to do another town hall around the end of January, held about every 2 months Town Halls tend to be for Q&A as well as announcements of significant new features, and usualy last 2-4 hours.

Is there any way to view the exact loadouts on the mechs at the academy? Through trial and error, I've ended up with a build which is pretty much identical to one of the mechs they have at the academy (HBR-PRIME with 2 x C-ERLL and 2 x C-UAC/5), but still something feels subtly different, and I want to figure out what Posted Image

For the avoidance of doubt: I don't mean "target them and view the weapons equipped", I mean the exact loadout - armor, heat sinks etc.

Smurfy gives all the loadouts. They will be listed under the C varients.

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

It's the place to go if you want to do trial builds or find out stats on equipment.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but I can't find the academy loadout at smurfy's. It's got stock HBR-A, HBR-B and HBR-PRIME, but the academy variant is different. I'm interested in comparing it to my build to see if there are actual differences in heat management, armor distribution etc.

What Danth said, but you should also be able to find them in the in game store as well. Should be the (C) version of that mech. (In this case, the Hellbringer (C) is the mech you should look at.)

Smurfy is the better resource here, as you can alt+tab between MW:O and Smurfy as you build it onto your mech.

You can also just buy the (C) champion version of the mech as well, but that costs MC (real world money).

Okay, after going through the store, going into the academy with an IS mech, then going into it with a Clan mech...

I don't see any Hellbringer mechs in the academy. Is it hidden someplace away from the IS mechs lined up around Capt. Adams?

As far as I know there aren't any Clan 'Mechs in the academie. Are you sure it is a hellbringer you are talking about? :)

EDIT UPDATE: okay, figured it out now that I'm home. I was successfully able to add any IS chassis I wanted to a custom drop deck. No idea why my buddy is having trouble, will walk him through it over TS.

Thanks all!

I'm at work so can't try until tonight but I am curious.
The two buddies I got into the game last month have already started some Faction play, and I *still* haven't gotten over there yet but plan to one night this week for a taste of it at least since they have been having a blast.

...so here's my question never having tried to actually set up my drop deck....

I planned to take: Zeus, Marauder, Wolverine, and Jenner. However, got an email from one of the guys saying that he thinks that mech selection is sub-faction dependent. Meaning, they just switched to Davion for a tour since I really like Davion lore BUT they cannot seem to select a Zeus to add to their drop deck. IS there a reason a Davion contract won't allow his Zeus (or any mech chassis for that matter)? They could add Jenner, King Crab, Tbolt, etc though no problem. Is it possible he's still a bit green setting up FW and is just missing something.

I can obviously sub in a second MAD but would like to at least try my Zeus a few times.

Thanks,
Morggo, FW Rookie

It says HELLBRINGER HBR-PRIME, but it's not stock PRIME loadout, as you can see Posted Image Maybe it's because I own a HBR-PRIME with the same loadout? Does the academy actually copy one of my mechs? Wow ok, I never saw a Hellbringer in the academie up till now!

@Morggo:
No! There is only Clan vs IS dependence. Between Davion and Steiner/Marik/Kurita/Liao/FRR there is no difference in the 'Mechs you can choose.

I don't know what do say. I've been stumped. Dumbfounded. Lacking for words...

The Academy doesn't mirror any of your mechs you own, but is suppose to have a set number and type of mechs you can try out on the run. However, as you know, you can switch out your ride with one of the trial mechs inside the academy.

I have no idea where the Hellbringer came from, or what it is doing there to be honest. Anything that appears in the Academy are suppose to be trial mechs (the Champion (C) mechs in game). So, that build, I don't have any information on.

However, being of a Clan Omni mech, it should be easy to recreate if you can get inside the mech. Record how much ammo it has. Place the weapons and the ammo onto the mech, then fill in the rest of the space with armor and heat sinks (near max your armor first, then fill with heat sinks). If you can, I might suggest finding space for an ECM unit in it.

Due to the fact that Omni mechs can't change out their engine helps you figure out their loadouts much better.

PS: No. You didn't waste our time. You just caught everyone by surprise. Are you by chance running on Steam or the independent launcher? That may be what is causing the difference here... and the confusion.

PS: I'm going to try something I tried before. Switching out a mech in the Academy, and seeing if it stays when I go back with another mech. I heard it was suppose to, but it doesn't. If that is the case, it could be your own mech you "left" there? Posted Image

Answer to my own proposed question: No. You can not leave mechs at the academy. So, it should not be something to do with your owned mechs appearing there...
