XP are tied to one particular mech. Even if you would by another mech of the same chassis and the same variant, they would not share XP. XP can only be shared via GXP and the conversion of XP to GXP is not worth it most of the time.

That is what I was afraid of .. sigh ... I was going to built up another variant but it always takes a while to built up enough XP / GXP to get the 'Skills' to a healthy level :)
Thank you so much for confirming that.

Had this been before PGI ended the Solaris season kickoff events, I would have recommended to grind out 25 matches per each division for the end-of-season rewards (which include a hefty amount of GXP - I've gotten something like two million of it from there), but now that Solaris doesn't get that brief spike in player activity it isn't a great option any more unless you have a lot more time than sense and multiple skilled mechs already

It's all good .. I have 2 skilled ones and hopefully a 3rd pretty soon. I am trying to get together a nice drop deck so I can answer the call when campaigns pop up, I like the Instant Action .. 'Quick Play' matches but there seems to be little strategy short of kill 'em all. I miss the strategy part a bit. Tried with trial mechs when I first started .. but that wasn't really it :)
Now I just try the patience game, I am a little too cheap to throw a bunch of money at it ... and still a little sore about that somewhat lack-luster mercs5 expansion pack that I bought.

Tonight some friends and I tried to quick queue with a group of 5 and it said group size exceeded. We were not over the tonnage limit. I was under the impression that larger groups can still queue. What are we missing?

Group qeueue and solo queue were combined so that the maximum group size is 4. Most grouped up players you'll see in a game is a group of 3 and a group of 2 being put on the same team.

Groups up to 12 still work in Faction Play.

When you do choose to spend money, read up on the annual Loyalty Rewards program - you can game that system a bit, depending on how much you're willing to spend.

A general rundown of that that I wrote a couple months ago, slightly updated to account for some bundles leaving the cash shop and new ones getting added:

Quote

Keep in mind, this information is predicated on PGI not instituting major changes to the Loyalty Program this year (ie: we have no idea how the Stryker and Warden packs will count).

If you have some patience and want the least investment with maximum possible return:
  • $7 of MC (preferably when there's a double MC sale or a promotion that grants you extra stuff with the purchase) to get one Light Hero or Loyalty mech
  • One Resistance hero of your choice to get one Inner Sphere Medium Hero or Loyalty mech ($15 value, basically BOGO on any of the Mediums or Lights)
  • One Clan hero of your choice (from any of the three collections) from the cash shop to get one Clan Medium Hero or Loyalty mech
If you're buying on sales, you can spend less than $27 and come out with five hero mechs which is not bad at all.

If you're inclined to spend more:
  • The Light new Player Pack costs $8 more than the small MC purchase, and contains not just 3K MC but also a Light hero, a month of Premium plus two C-Bill boosted cockpit items pretty much free on top of that.
  • The Solaris Pack can be worth spending the $13 more in the place of the MC purchase - it about breaks even on the Premium Time alone and you get six more heroes with it (even if three of them are kinda meh, they're still C-Bill boosted)
  • The Resistance II Pack unlocks a redunkulous amount of paints along with the mechs and each $20 tier comes with a Special variant (special skin, C-Bill boost) Remember to not choose duplicate Faction Packs from it though!
  • Similar goes for the Origins pack on the Clan side, though Resistance II awards way more paints.
  • You can upgrade a pack you already owned to Collector (or max out a tiered pack) and have that count towards the Top Tier rewards even if you bought the base pack much earlier.

Things to watch out for:
  • Avoid buying mechbays when they're not on sale (usually 50% off ~4 times a year). You can unlock a bunch of free bays by playing Faction and getting to the second tier reward of each faction, then switching.
  • Never pay MC for Standard or Champion mechs, you should save it up for mechbays, heroes (which usually go 50% off several times a year) and occasional cosmetics
  • Don't buy Premium Time by itself if you want to maximize the value for your money. The Light New Player Bundle and basic level mechpacks come with 30 days of PT costs $20 (the NPB $15) and breaks even just on the mechbays and PT (not counting the cheaper Light Mech packs that cost $15).
  • Don't buy the old style Mech Bundles, standalone Heroes, Champions or Reinforcement mechs from the gift shop. The pricing on them is generally wack for what you get and they don't count towards the loyalty program at all.

Holy Hell Merc!!! you really laid that out for me .. I thank you very much!

There are quite a few things to consider.

As for my status right now, been participating in all events that have come up and racked some 'Premium' time .. been using that to grind away and by now have a full invasion drop deck (actually that is all I wanted) been racking up the XPs to assign SPs to the mechs and have made great headway. All I need now is a scout mech for the scout deck (but that is rather secondary to me) .. a few more XPs converted into SP and I can start answering the call to arms when there is an invasion going on .. that is what I wanted anyway to get away from that blind hacking around in the instant action games and be able to more enjoy the game play :)
Don't get me wrong .. I love the instant action ... there is just a bit of the old BattleTech missing Quiaff?

In any case, thank you for your very thorough reply.

Good Hunting to you!

You might want to look into the comp community ( main discord at https://discord.gg/6wxM5hC ). The strategizing involved is a lot deeper than what you see in the "casual" gameplay.

Thanks Horseman, I will check that out.

*edit: Unfortunately it will not let me accept your generous invite ... very odd, but thanks anyway, I get that squared away in the near future.

can IS C.A.S.E. be used as crit pad (a side troso mounted gauss with a Light Engine and the remining slots with C.A.S.E.)?

Nope. Case doesn't get crit. Use gauss ammo to crit pad instead.

Everything you've won is on the tournament page. Check here and scroll down for your list:

If you're talking Supply Caches instead which you redeem inside the game UI, there's no list for that. But I also don't think there's anything specific to a given mech chassis there. Cockpit items and decals just get dumped into your inventory in the mech lab.

Greetings again .. more inquiries :) .. is 91 SP the max for any chassis or is there a way to go above?

91 active nodes is the maximum for each chassis. There is no way to have more nodes active at any given time. You can unlock up to all nodes for xp and cash and then switch between "builds" for no additional costs but that's it. 91 is max.

Right. You can unlock 91 nodes, change your mind, deselect some nodes, and unlock other ones. Once you do, you can switch back to nodes you’re already unlocked at no cost. You’ll do this most commonly when you make a major load out change on a mech if you want to build it differently (like if the quirks or weapon stats change).

That is what I thought ... thank you for the clarification

Solaris caches contain chassis-specific bolt-ons. Unfortunately, that system was poorly designed and there's no way to see them other than going into the bolt-ons tab on each individual chassis. It would have been much better if the bolt-ons were chassis-agnostic, but PGI seems unwilling to make that change.

... and yet another newbie question. Are Clan decals 'one shot' or when unlocked, usable multiple times?

All decals are unlocks, not oneshots.
