If anyone intends to run Dual Core, I'd suggest trying to have a chip with the most L2 Cache and fastest front-side bus possible. That'll help make the most use of your clocked processing rate -> going up from 2.5 to 3.0GHz while maintaining a tiny L2 cache and a slow bus will not avail you.

Edit: Even then, a Q6600 quad-core I mentioned earlier costs only about $20 more than a E8400 Dual Core 3.0GHz, 6MB cache, 1333MHz fsb

Thanks for the update! At first I thought: Darn it! August 7 means I will have only a week to play before I have to suspend my gaming activities for about a month due to RL. But then I read the specs and now I'm quite happy about the delay... This gives me enough time to build a new rig for MW:O as my current rig couldn't handle the game.

Still purchasing a founders!

This is very good news. I'd rather the game take some more time and come out a better experience than to rush it.

Thanks for clarifying what to expect. Personally, I fully expect for there to be a learning curve too to the game, but we just gotta push past it and in time, it will become like second nature.

The nice thing here is that we're all going into the game like greenhorn pilots. And for there to be 10 of the announced Mechs by Open Beta; that should be more than enough variety until the others come out. Sweet! Can't wait for the 19th. I got my moola ready.

Thanks for the update. I had a few thoughts though.

1. Concerning the number of mechs. A RL friend of mine has had the chance to try the beta. He has said that his #1 concern about MWO is the low number of mechs. While I have not played it myself (waiting for my own beta invite), I have to agree. Including some varients is not good enough. This is battletech we are talking about one of the key features of the setting is the huge number of playable mechs to choose from. Please try to get as many chassies as you can into the game by launch.

2. What ever happened to the 'unseen' stuff? The FAQ says "Look forward to a future announcement." But as far as I am aware, there has not yet been any such announcement. Now that we are getting closer to launch, could you clarify a little? Are the unseen mechs something that's being worked on, are they on the 'maybe someday' list, or are they completely out of the question? Personally I was hoping to see at least one or two of them make it in by launch. Considering how cool you have made mechs like the Hunchback look, I would love to see your artistic design of the pheonix hawk or marauder.

3. The system specs are awfully high. But I am not that surprised. I kind of expected it when I saw this game is running on the Cry engine of all things. That's pretty much a given that you need a high end gaming PC to run this even on lower settings. This is no problem for my PC, but I expect a lot of my friends are going to have to do some hefty upgrading before they will be able to play this. I kind of wish you had used a more system friendly game engine, so that the game would have been more accessible to people. I expect the general opinion of MWO at launch will be: "It's free! It's awsome! But you can't run it!"

4. The founders package I am still not completely clear about.

a. For $60 I can get $80 of in-game money. But I have no idea how valuable that is. Is that C-bills? Is $80 enough to buy an Atlas?

b. What exactly is the deal with the founders mechs? Do we get all four, or do we choose just one? What if we don't like the one we choose? What is this about a lifetime C-bill bonus? Does this bonus only apply to when we pilot that particular mech? Again, what if we end up not liking that mech? Are these founders mechs limited to the blue/white/yellow paint job that is in all the pictures, or will we be able to customize it? Are the Founders mechs a unique varient, or just a different graphic applied to a commonly available varient?

c. All of this founders stuff is supposed to be available starting July 17 August 7. Does this mean that there will not be any 'beta character wipes' after that date, even though that date apparently falls into the Closed Beta period? It would suck to buy stuff with my $80 only to lose those items when open beta or official launch begins.

@Synra
1. Your friend breaking NDA? Cool.
2. There will be ~40ish mechs when open beta comes around
3. No they really aren't... The minimum specs are from a computer which was good ~5 years ago. I know that because I had one of those computers. E4400 + 8800GT, in 2007. You can buy that "recommended pc" for $300 today.
4. We will all know what's EXACTLY in it on Tuesday.
a) "$80 in-game money" = What you'd get for $80 when the game has launched. Atlas wont cost real money, it will cost c-bills which you get through playing the game.
;) We'll know more on Tuesday.
c) Yes, they've already said that after the Operation: Inception(When Founder's Packages get to play) There will be no wipes after that, meaning you wont loose the stuff you've used actual money(founder's package money) to purchase.

Okay, I have a question. My husband and I are both chomping at the bits to play this game. Sadly, I use a laptop, which means my ability to upgrade my gpu (the only part that needs upgrading for this game) is nil. In light of that, I got my husband a new gpu a while back so that he could play when open beta happens.

Here is my question:

When open beta happens, can I log in on his computer under my ID to play the game until I can build myself a decent gaming rig, or will that be a massive no-no?

Thanks!

From my experience on World of Tanks your acount will be conected to an email adress and login password, not to the computer in wich you are playing.
This means you can play in any computer with your acount, and various users can access their accounts on the same computer without any problem.

Thank you very much for this informative update!

So after July 10th, when Beta access 2 starts, early Founder's pack purchasers have better odds for getting selected for Beta 2 access before the Injection of Founders on August 7th? Am I reading this right?

Once we have achieved Closed Beta 2 we continue to ramp up the beta testers to the point where we can handle the injection of the founders program. I should say that it is logical that this next round of beta testers will likely be drawn from those early purchasers of the founders program; it only makes sense since they have shown such dedication and are quite likely to be excellent beta testers.

It is a little sad to know that a dual core system will hurt the game play experience. I was considering upgrading my video card, but if my CPU is such a significant bottle neck, I don't know if it would be worth it at this time, because I have no plans at all to upgrade my CPU.

I guess I will still get the video card and see what happens. Now I know at least one determining factor for invites... ;)

P.S. If you are hosting 10,000 Beta testers before actually moving to your production hardware, I say wow, that has to be expensive for you. Thank you!

Get the feeling the system specs for this game are going to be its undoing. i can run WoW at high setting and WoT at its highest setting no problem and im sitting literaly just under the min system specs for this game. Kills me that im going to need 300-400 bucks upgrade just to play it. C'est la vie, what can you do. wish the game luck but dont think ill spend that much hard earned money to start playing a game and then spend even more money for founders packs and other stuff i normally get in a F2P game. ;)

Yeah... having a game engine that REALLY likes a quad core machine is really going to break a lot of people that want this game.

Trust me as far as regions go it is not a big IF...more on the tiny side.

I exepct that there are many international laws, and TAXES that have to be dealt with to make this a game hosted internationally.

What choice do I have my friend? until a deal is signed in Europe it must be an IF. But I can tell you we have multiple European publishers talking to us about publishing the game in Europe. Things couldn't look better but no deal is signed until it is signed..therefore it must be an IF

The same is true for all regions

God bless America, well.... N.A. :-)

Thank you Russ! You, have convinced me to buy a Package. I was going back and forth but you continue to put information forth in good faith and it's honestly amazingly refreshing. Thank you!!

To people that are complaining (NOT the ones asking questions!!) about system specs...this is the Cry Engine. It's REDICULOUS.

The whole goal (obviously) was to build the game on a graphics engine which will carry them forward MANY years and allow them to continue to tweak and enhance the play experience. And I hate to say it, because I hate it when people say it to me but:

This is what it is to be a PC gamer. We must upgrade our hardware more then a console player and it's just how it goes. You've been given notice a few months ahead, I would kindly suggest doing what I'm doing! BUDGET!! :( It works, I tell you it does ;) Then you can upgrade and build new machines.

My 2 C-Bills :P

Yeah, it would be very nice to know whether the game runs on XP.
Would be very grateful if you'd look into it! (And more willing to give you my mones! ;))

I just confirmed that it does run on Win XP 32

Perhaps we should update our Min Spec

You bet you should, zillions of potential customers still use the old reliable XP.

They said that they will optimize as they can, where they can. So gameplay will get better for people on lower spec'd machines as time passes...

First off thanks for the update! Take your time with whatever you need to do and thanks for the honesty about community warfare. Somewhat disappointing but completely understandable.

However I do have one question about founders package, will we be able to gift it?
