So I downloaded MWO yesterday and I have to say, I've been having a blast! But now the time has come. My starter bonus is up, and the grind has set it. Too much grind. Now I don't expect to be able to buy a mech every fifteen minutes. I know how FTP's work, as I play a few. But I'm not going to pay to play a game that makes getting in-game currency so tedious on a free account. To me, that's not "free to play". Please look at SOE's "Planetside 2". This is a prime example of a good FTP: Most things can be earned from normal, passive gameplay, (or an extended grind, but that's the player's choice) with really high-end items being a stretch, but still withing reach. This satisfies the players' appetite for the most part, and usually motivates some to skip the wait and spend some real-world cash to get that really awesome item, or a subscription/game time. So, sorry, the game just isn't fun now that I have to grind if I want to play in something other than a trial mech. And I'm not saying make it so we can buy a new mech every fifteen minutes, just make it more feasible to earn C-bills and relieve a bit of that grindy feeling. If that were the case, I would be happy to start throwing some cash around for some nicer mechs and gear (I've thrown some money in SOE's direction happily). So for now, farewell. Hopefully you revert this game from "work" to "fun" and continue to develop this near-masterpiece.
And Piranha, if you take one thing away from my little ran, let it be this:

We come to play, not to grind. We pay to play harder, not to "grind less".

Until this is realized, I will not be returning, and I will be giving friends a "grind alert". This isn't a threat. I'm trying to provide important feedback to help prolong this game's life (because it is pretty cool).

P.S. Maybe you guys should look into developing an massive open world MWO? After the former issue is resolved, of course.

If you came to play then why are you leaving because you arnt getting enough C-bills?

If you came to play it wouldnt matter what you got paid per match.

Im guessing 3rd person didn't help either.
C-Bill grind was also one of the things that killed me off, now I usually lurk hoping for signs that they will take off 3rd person and that damn 30% C-bill reduction. Also the finglonger.

why is it all the time founders defending the current cbill earnings hmmmm, conspiracy perhaps. may i ask how much cbills have you saved up since starting also did you grind out your mechs or just purchase them, oh and another thing do you have any sort of booster/easy button such as premium or a hero mech?

Not all of them xD but yea cbill earnings are terrible. There are some discussions going on right now in other threads on this sub forum. It would be great for you new players to contribute to them.

Customizing and experimenting with your mech is a huge part of playing this game, and one of the main draws, historically, of the MechWarrior series. You can't do this without grinding, and if the grind is too hard, then its interfering with you playing the game.

I don't like the grind either, but you won't catch me making another account so I can pretend to be a new player and complain about it.

PS2 actually has quite a grind too, most weapons cost 1000 certs, which takes a week or two to acquire (same as it takes to get a new mech in MWO just about with same hours).

Only difference is PS2 feels bigger, where matches in MWO are secluded and the outcome of the match doesn't affect some map territory. CW, we're waiting on you :)

I currently have ~120mil in the bank.

I have had 3 variants of all the mechs currently in game barring SDR, COM, CDA, AWE. I have had every CTF though including an Illya, Which is the only mech I bought with MC, everything else is bought with Cbills. It's not even mastered though so I haven't been using it for cbill grinding.

But the big one is that I had the free premium time all founders had for what was it, like 5-6 weeks at the beginning of open beta while we were waiting for the activate button, coupled with the extra cbills everyone got for R&R and not repairing the mech at the time, everyone was raking in stacks even without premium. Then still had my 1 month founders premium on top of that.

I totally agreed with the OP until he brought up Planetside.

Planetside has one of the most miserable grinds of any F2P game I've tried

takes HOURS to unlock

one holo scope
for one gun
for one class
for one faction

I quit before I ever unlocked a new weapon, because I realized it would take 20+ hours to unlock the gun I wanted (800 certs or something)

I can buy a new weapon in MWO in a few rounds, and a mech every few evenings. (if I play an hour or two each night)

by all means go back to planetside

I do think the grind is too much in MWO, and cant believe some people have 100+ million cbills.

Ive played 4,000+ matches, with a 2.51 kdr and 1.5 W\L

I own 24 mechs, and earned a lot of those with premium, and by selling standard engines\LRMs all the time.

The grind always felt borderline unbearable, without premium it's really bad now.

Still way better than planetside 2....

Right, because playing in a trial mech is EXACTLY the same as a fully fit DDC.

I've yet to meet a founder I can respect.

Wow at the underlined. You had trouble getting certs? PS2 is one of the easiest grinds i've ever seen.

I have almost 180 million in the bank but I can honestly say I've noticed the decrease in c-bills. It would definitely be nice to see them up the currency flow a little. I haven't bought a new mech in at least a month, having 35 at the moment. Hell, I don't even play to level up mechs or earn money. I just like stacking bodies through the ceiling. Maybe I'm a sick person. No, scratch that, there is no maybe to it, I AM a sick person.

So, at the moment, I just accumulate c-bills. The only thing I regret is never activating my c-bills when the income was better. I'm surely not going to activate it now with it being so dismal. I hold out hope for them increasing it again... sometime before the clans are introduced.

I have times of making great amounts of cbills.
Like these (very beginning then skip to the end).

But then there's times when I barely make dirt.
Like this.

And there's times when its worse, but only when someone captures the base in the first 2 minutes of gameplay or in one case, all 12 enemies simultaneously disconnect.

But if you really want to make good money, bring an LB and some MGs. Seriously. (For the date of this picture, check the video below it.) Mech bonus comes from it being a founder's mech (25% cbill bonus). The pre-bonus earnings is also shown on the left.

The OP is right from his point of view maybe others feel the same way? C-Bills are to low and it is a hard grind to even 10 million C-Bills for the next mech without paying. But that's the way most Free 2 play/pay games are pay to win or pay to gain rewards faster. Sorry to see you go OP another new player not sticking around. Hopefully MWO will not be a ghost site and game in 6 months.

This is the part I dont understand, most of the veteran players have a large amount of mechs or cbills, yet a good number of them voice their opinion against a cbill increase, with the amount of players that dont use the forums, how many have left since their cadet bonus ended? you would think that the founder players of all people would support any move that would benefit the game they invested in before we had a shot at it.

Im not saying stop buying mc its youre choice but what i am saying is help us new players out who like mechwarrior and want to play the game but cant get past the slow progression. Until some sort of system comes out where buying new mechs isnt the only form of advancement thats all we have, and it makes for a very slow trip.

So founder and Veteran players help us new guys out you certainly have more push with the developers then we do.

lel no.

Seems more like the opposite from the other side. 3rd person snafu is a prime example.
