PEEFSmash is conspicuous in his absence from this thread. But what could he say? He couldn't say light mechs aren't aren't that dangerous, because he's got multitudes of screen-shots proving that they are very dangerous.

Everything PEEF says he says in the context of 12-man games or games filled with good players. In those games light mechs generally aren't going to carry a game unless they exploit an enemy's mistake or etc. In PUG games, light mechs are plenty effective and dangerous, in my opinion because PUG teams can't help but have mistakes all over the place (a common one being not scouting a route and getting quickly capped).

When you're dealing with effective pilots on all sides, lights are unable to brawl unless they have the safety of the rest of the team brawling with them. You get to a point where a light can never really brawl/duel a much heavier mech unless it is exploiting a damaged component, taking advantage of and countering a loadout, or outnumbering it.

Actually he has multitudes of Screenies showing HE is dangerous in lights. I could post as many Screenies showing how awful Lights are(under my control). So they are probably balanced.

I agree with the general sentiment here (one player doesn't mean a weight class is good), but final assertion that the average of two outliers = balance is a bit shaky.

In my experience lights can only 'brawl' when:
  • Enemy team is distracted
  • 1v1 against a sluggish mech
Otherwise they get blown away. As soon as two PPC/Gauss Highlanders (with good aim) decide it's time for my Jenner to die, my Jenner dies (if I'm still in their LOS).

I wasn't completely serious, but enough so that I see where you went, an agree with you. :P When big guns come out to play a Light should be... fragile. :)

Yep lights should be fragile. Lights also should not be fighting heavies/assaults and expecting to win. However lights should also perform a vital role that heavies/assaults cant do, and that hypothetical role is currently lacking in the game.

Actually that roll is trying to be erased from the game. That roll is performed properly less than 15% of the time right now. :P

Light mechs can perform the scouting/spotting role pretty well... I used a cicada in this case. It's about how people play the game, think about it and work it to fulfil those roles. You don't get much score/cbills or exp. You just help your team win and become the favourite of every LRM mech on your team.
