same here. I read the reviews, they're all subjective but at least reviews usually give you at least an idea of what a game is like. As far as being one of the top 25 shooters ever....? I'll put that into the same boat I put all the 0's, 1's, 10's, and 9's on metacritic in....

While I don't understand the score of an 83 I agree with everything the author had to say about the game. I think his review was fair. I guess his score is based upon what he thinks is going to happen. I would say right now the game is a 73.

here's an extract make what you will of it

Gauss rifle slugs, for example, are one of the only ammunition types that don’t explode when their housing is destroyed. The gauss rifle itself, however, is volatile, and if you destroy one you’ll deal extra damage unless your enemy installed a CASE explosion-containment module. But wait--that module is meaningless if they’re running an XL engine, which unlike standard engines occupy all three torso segments. Imagine trying to exploit this knowledge as you’re being cooked with lasers and you’ve got an idea of high-level MWO play.

true or false?

It would probably be a bit of a paradox for PC Gamer to claim this game is "Top 25 shooter of all time," and then give it a poor review score.

I would say Mechwarrior 2 and the online component, Netmech, were one one the top 25 greatest games of all time.

MWO is just like Netmech, except with better graphics and more features.

Ergo.

PC Gamer is a joke. It always asks the developers what rating to give the game, just to be sure they keep advertising on their site and handing them money.

I like to look at the extremes and read the critique there- is that something I would like/hate, too?

Of course, for user ratings, "PGI ***** my childhood and stole my Founder money!!!!" type of critque is not exactly useful...

false.

1) It's not a module in game terms.
2) The damage isn't prevented, it just doesn't transfer beyond the side torso it occurs in or was transferred to.
3) There isn't much to exploit in the scenario he describes, high level play or not, and in fact, since you never know whether someone uses CASE or not, you could never really rely on what it might do.

It is true that it's useless for an XL Engine user, since the damage to the side torso isn't prevented and if the side torso is gone, so is the engine, and so is the mech.

Heh, haters are just as bad as white knights, they both cling on to the review that closely resembles theire own thinking and bash everyother that they disagree with (similar to here, Evan gives it an 83% and he's immedialtly accused of accepting bribes) while they fail to realize that a review is nothing more than a one man's opinion. 83% is just how much he enjoyed the game not a the accumulation of the game's pros and cons, there's no formula for that.

I like the game while I still complain about the lack of CW and balance issues, yet I still come here and play, is PGI bribing me?

Couldn't agree more with the review. Although this was a good score, I hope that Mechwarrior online deserves a better score and review in the future.

PCG have always been generous with their ratings. I've been a PCG subscriber for a long time and don't see 80~% for MWO being out of character to how they rate games.

PCG rating system =

<70% = truly horrible game
70~% = worth checking out on demo, don't buy unless on steam sale
80~% = decent game, nothing too special
90-97% = good, worth full retail price
98+% = great game, a must have.

Verdict : Slightly overpriced, but a more than worthy successor to one of PC gaming’s greatest franchises that nails the important part: combat.

Im glad MWO gained a good review but unless PGI/DEVS do a few things to the core game it will never be a worthy successor to any of the Older MechWarrior games. Many older players are waiting to come back play leagues in private lobby's and pay some big $$$$$$ USD but if PGI screws it up I don't see this game MWO becoming as good as MechWarrior4 was even with its flaws.PM me if you need a refresher PGI/DEVS on the golden days of MechWarrior when millions played and supported this IP.Posted Image

Was this the same guy who listed MWO as "one of the greatest shooters of all time", back when it was still in closed beta? Ranking it higher than Bioshock?

No, Bioshock is a SHOOTER, and the list was "best shooters of all time".

And whoever put together the list at PC Gamer ranked MWO higher than Bioshock.

If I would to choose a Mechwarrior franchise game to be on a "Best Shooters of All Time" list, definitelly wouldn't be MWO. Mechwarrior 2 for sure.

Ah, my mistake. I thought it was an MMO list.
