1. What is bidding good for? More enemies, more honour.
2. In Clan-vs-IS 10:12 favours Clans too much and 5:12 favours IS too much.

The solution: Bidding.

One player is the Star-Captain of the Clan-force, either by some RPG-stuff or by claiming it on the Ready-screen.

The Clan-force starts out with 10 Mechs. The Star-Captain has the right to kick up to 5 guys off the team.
- If you get bid away, you automatically earn 10,000 CB, 100 XP and 5 GXP. But you have to look for a new game.
- The rest of the Clan-force enters the game even more outnumbered than before.
- The Clan-force gets bonus-points the farther they are outnumbered, respectively outweighed, BUT ONLY IF THEY WIN. If a Clan-force is extra-small and wins, each player gets a huge bonus. If a Clan-force is extra-small and looses, then being outnumbered is no excuse and they get the usual scraps.
- And of course the Star-Captain recieves some punishment if he looses. The more Mechs he had bid away, the graver the punishment.

The Star-Captain decides: A risky game with huge potential benefits, or an easy game with tiny potential benefits?

Added items need to be that the Star Captain needs to be able to see what enemy mechs the enemy team is comprised of. You know, "With what forces do you defend this colony?"

I feel like it would **** off the Clan players who get bid off tremendously, however, even if they could get their mechs back and drop immediately. It may also be too soon to say 10v12 is unbalanced in favor of Clans. I would like asymmetric fights, but even being down one mech from the start is problematic in capture modes (which is all we have, really), and with the intended reduction of Clan faceroll tech we really do not know if it will not be balanced at 12v12.

There is another issue. This is a reboot, right? I would not be surprised if PGI decided that for ease of gameplay and balance Stars are now comprised of four or three mechs rather than five. That way there would be 3x4 mech stars or 4x3 mech stars vs 3x4 mech lances.

Reboot in my mind means modernizing something, not changing its core values. Five 'Mechs. No compromise. B)

Bidding process would be done before hand in CW. During the inital launching phase, I could see two drop commanders asking their members to drop in lower and lower tonnage to combat the reduciton in tonnage the other commander keeps 'bidding down' and the winner is the one who gets to actually drop that match. The other team's DC gets to them proceed to bid on the next fight.

TBH, due to logistics, aside from maybe 'hardcore' players. I do not think a bidding process would work.

They have stated the ClanTech will not be overpowered like it was in the past, bidding yourself to one star vs a company of IS will screw the Clan side... even 5 Dire Wolfs would only last so long vs combined firepower of a well played company.

Ah, but that all depends on HOW much of a nerf they get.
they might only be slightly better.

who knows?

If only they would make an arcade game for the newbs to get them interested and then give the fans the real game as it should be. The newbs will start with having so much fun blowing stuff up and tinkering in the mechlab that once they are ready to step in to the realm of 'guilds' and team play. They will be ready to play a MechWarrior: Online as it could.

One upon a time, there was a project for a new MechWarrior game which promised to be the best ever, the true rebirth of the series. It was called MechWarrior 5..
Shame it was set in 3015 so no Clans..

I don't think this would work for pug matches but a Clan vs IS tournament. Some ranking for the IS teams and the Clans choose their opponents by bid. Hi bid gets stuck with the top IS team. Strategy and game play would be required for the top Clan team.

Interesting but you are forgetting that a commander can break their original bid & call in reinforcements. My suggestion would be to have all 12 players drop. 2 Stars & 2 Points. Have the 2 points hold in the event of a disco or a bugged player. Then let the bidding begin. The cutdown should be stated up front so there is no guessing. Any commander who wins the bid, reaches the cutdown & wins the game should get a bonus (everything, c-bills, xp & gxp) & any commander who wins the bid, goes lower than the cutdown & wins the game should get a bigger bonus.

So should the commander be able to bring such reinforcements and lose any bonus?

It would be cool for RPing but on the other hand i doubt people will like getting kicked from servers, espiecally if they are the one's always getting kicked. Nothing more frustrated then waiting to log in, getting in, and then getting kicked for nothing.

Not to sound harsh but it's not suppose to be fair. The clans are superior at this timeframe and until the IS builds their new line of mechs or until the Word of Blake shows up (which makes clan tech look like nerf toys) then the clans will always dominate as it should be

Actually, if they were the last forces bid away, they were eligible to be recalled to the battle as reinforcements, albeit at a loss of honor to the commanding officer so recalling them.

I'd always be bid away first, like the freeborn I am. Which makes it all the more embarrassing when you have to call me in to save your sorry trashborn arses. ;)

If it was a suicidal mission they wouldn't bid you away....now if you were diamond shark or smoke jag then yes you would be bid away. Because they segregate freeborns and trueborns into seperate units.

Actually it was UH & not HUH. And NO Smoke Jaguars do not allow freeborns to fight.

Quote

Howell leaned casually forward on his desk. "No worries along those lines. None of you can be bondsmen, Horse. You and your Trinary, you are all freeborn scum. Unlike the misguided Jade Falcons, we do not allow free-borns among our warriors, nor do we ever make them bondsmen. The idea itself is revolting."

Freebirth - Pg.69

Quote

"And freeborn warriors, you have none, quiaff?"

A hint of disgust came into Howell's face as he spoke. "As I said, we Jaguars do not allow freeborns into the warrior caste. We believe it is unproductive to train or employ freeborns as warriors. We tolerate your kind in the professional and tech castes, but a freeborn warrior is a contradiction in terms."

Freebirth - Pg.73
