I had no IDEA there were so many people using this game function! The VERY FIRST remapping I did of my controls over a YEAR ago was to unmap "Fire selected weapon group".
For those who are thinking I have some magical mouse with a bjillion buttons, that also is not the case - standard 3 button mouse (LMB, RMB, and Mousewheel click) and I use 5 of the 6 available weapon groups for every mech I have (provided they have the requisite weapons).
LMB = Left Arm
RMB = Right Arm
MMB = LRM/CT
Q = LT/SSRMs
E = RT
I don't have to rip my hand away from the keyboard, or fumble around searching for weapon groups... I mean this stuff is basically coming from all the other FPS in the world, using E for the use key, or G for grenade etc...
But with all of that said - I don't see any reason to have had this option removed from the game. It wasn't hurting anyone, though it appears that it was helping at least 14 pages worth of forum posters.
PGI, may I make a request - For upcoming changes to core gameplay, regardless of how minor, can you give the community a heads-up first? Perhaps posting "Pre-patch notes" or something with a Poll so we can vote or something so you don't get into these kinds of sticky situations?

So, with your mapping scheme, you sometimes can't turn and fire torso weapons at the same time? ('fire RT' and 'turn right' uses the same finger. Or, if you borrow the throttle finger, then you can only do 2 simultaneous functions between accelerating, turning right, and firing RT weapons).
It may not be a problem for your playstyle, but I like to have simultaneous control of steering, throttle, jets, targeting, vision modes, and any one of the equipment functions (shutdown override, counter ECM, missle doors, etc.) and 2 weapon groups, at all times. My control scheme uses FSWG for LMB with the mouse wheel to select groups, and 2 more dedicated weapon group buttons for JJ mechs, or 3 without JJ. I use YGHJ instead of WASD to have more options available for the pinky and thumb.
I rely on both methods of fire control, so it's not a case of having to choose one or the other for an ideal setup.

They were trying to make it so that it was the default option sense it wasn't before and I guess newbies were having trouble with it not being default sense its makes things super simple and almost every one uses it. To make a long story short, they broke it some how some way when they tried to do that. However, they are getting it fixed and should be back in next patch I do believe.

Thanks PGI, but you'll not get another dime from Novakaine.
Not that it matters to anyone but me.
I understand that all those console demographics are making your collective eyes misty.
But consider this.
Mechwarrior has been and always be a niche franchise.
The console kiddies will look at this and realize oh this makes my tiny brain hurt.
Too complicated for me.
And in the end poor sales and bye bye franchise.
Shall we say Mech Assault.
You should always dance with the girl you brought to the dance.
But I'm not gonna bemoan this.
Good luck and good grief.

Nope, they said they did it because n00bs struggled keeping their spittle off their chin while figuring out FSWG. I believe that. What nobody believes is rather change the default mapping, they removed it.
Returning Soon tm

The mechwarrior franchise has so much goodwill, and the closed beta held so much promise, that it had to take an extraordinary level of mismanagement for me to stop funding this game, and that theshold has only now been reached because this particular design decision is so irrational and inexcusable that I can no longer give the devs any benefit of the doubt as a small team facing many challenges.
The game is still fun for me, but I can understand how people have long since written it off, because it's not overly difficult to hone in on sufficient weapon balance with frequent tweaks using both real-world factors and spreadsheet numbers, or prioritize the refining and balancing of existing mechs by tweaking their hitboxes, scaling, and performance quirks instead of adding more and more flawed mechs, or devise more variations of gameplay modes, and just keep improving and expanding the core game.
There should be more of an emphasis on actual gameplay than grinding/leveling/progessing, which will get players to want to support the game with frivolous purchases, and not feel increasingly exploited by a minimally viable product.

This is the worst patch since the mis-guided, clunky and unintuitive heat mechanic you foisted on us.
Unplayable for me now. I use left button to fire and mouse wheel to select weapon group. I do NOT want to re-assign 4 or 5 of my mouse buttons to simply fire my weapons. They have other uses. Going against the standard of decades of FPS and mechwarrior control schemes won't win you any admirers.
Please PGI, explain your reasoning for this change. The lack of foresight in how changes might effect your playerbase is as usual, enormously apparent.
Sincerely,
Hovertank
