this game needs more ECM capable mechs

Still wouldn't save your life. A spotter with TAG, a UAV, or an LRM user self-tagging will cut through ECM. Since you refuse to use cover and overlapping AMS, I'm afraid even with ECM you're still going to die, my friend.

I know my Jester laughs at thos mechs spamming LRM5's i just keep on beaming away while moving at 96kph.
I would like to see at least one ECM capable mech for every weight class (light, medium heavy assualt) but would have to have something in place to make them no more popular a choice than there equivelant chassis mechs. (a DCC is by far more popular than any other atlas varient)

Anyone running LRM worth their salt will ignore your jester as primary. They will take out your big, slow, easy to hit targets while their lancemates go after you.

I own both, I use both, both are fun

What makes me angry is that the best scouting tools were added as modules. And now the UAV, quite useful in matches with LRMS, complete with in game rewards is a module.

IW needs a total rework... ECM/Seismic/NARC/TAG/UAV...
Why does only one weapon system have significant synergies with other equipment and roles? Shouldn't IW be a thread throughout all builds?

I believe your ignorance proves my point.

my ignorance or your blindness to the fact that someone else might actaully be right and you... heaven forbid, might actually be wrong. Kill their scouts you take away their fast moving eyes and a set of weapons from the field. LRMs do a great job VS lights if you can catch one being silly otherwise have you lights camp out and just watch for the enemy lights from just behind the line. Once they spot them they can signal where they are and move to engage them. I know it's not that you can't grasp this concept it's that you refuse to and that only hurts the people you are dropping with. No one likes to drop with a tunnel vision piece of driftwood that can't adapt to a fluid battle.

I lost to a scrub!”
This is the most entertaining complaint of the bunch. When this player loses to someone he considers a weaker player, the “I lost to a scrub!” line is sometimes used as an excuse. This player is saying that he is very good at the game, and losing to such a poor player doesn’t prove anything. He often enumerates all the weaknesses of this “poor player,” including such gems as “he relies on only one tactic” and “his mind games are weak.” The more he puts down the other player, though, the worse he looks himself. If the other player relies on only one tactic, and you can’t beat it, then what does that say about you?
I love this Guy. He got it back 13 years ago. Read his theories, and see what competitive looks like.

Honestly as someone who just runs LRMs as a support weapon, i find them often useless between ECM mechs all over the place with cloaking fields and all, and the surge of 2x AMS mechs. While i've been chewed up by missile boats from time to time, they are far easier to counter than mechs with any other weapon.

I ran into one of these LRM5 spaming A1s on Crimson, got behind him in my max engine Dragon and blew off his missile boxes and that was that. That being said when i'm in said max engine dragon i see my role as getting behind artillery mechs and taking the heat off my brawler team mates.

So while i only pug (or drop with a friend) i'd also figure AMS and ECM makes LRMs almost as common as the Unseen in 12s play.

Disclaimer - I am not a fan of the current ECM setup

Those of us who remember shall never forget.

We lost so many during the LRMpocalypse... so many good players... gone forever...

the lrmpocalypse was an interesting time in MechWarrior online. nothing like watching half your team melt 12 seconds into the match.

But Joe, the devs said that there will "never" be just a city map. They say that there should be "room to manouver".
Personally I can't see why we can't have somewhere that the 4G can play.

wtb big city and innercity remakes. those were 2 awesome maps from the MechWarrior games.

The funny part was that the LRMs kept the GaussCats, SplatCats, and other Meta at the time in Check. AND was easy to counter with Fast attack units!

Yep. The LRM is the natural predator of the long range sniper (or dangerous close brawler like splatcat). It made movement require thought and coordination.

Funny thing too - it went away, and along came the current long range meta/hill humping we all know and love. Totally unrelated right?

So LRM's are the natural predator to everything?

Snipers should counter LRMs, LRMs should counter brawlers, brawlers should counter snipers.

Right now snipers > anything else. LRMs are the natural predator of stupidity right now. They rely almost entirely on the incompetence of your target.

Funny enough, I think they are pretty balanced right now. Brawling is what needs to be brought up to snuff, then maybe that will complete the food chain and we will start to see everything.

It "kept them in check" by being completely broken and overpowered during the LURMpocalypse lol.

Anything that can lock and hit targets far away keeps suppression and potential damage high for those willing to stay put. Kinda like real life... Missiles are cheap and effective, the bane of things both on the ground and in the air.

They hurt way before the LRMpocaltpse 9000, but that was just more fun.

if lrm flooding isnt a problem then how come

A:) it is prevalent in every match?

b:) this topic has become such a hot button issue?

and its funny how LRM flooders only input into the conversation is "lol ams" when ams is innefective at best.

LRM's are very well balanced at the moment, you don't feel like an ***** for having a few launchers here and there and lrm boaters are actually a little weak, cover is your best friend, ecm is your best friend, speed is your best friend, shut down to break lock is your best friend, AMS is your best friend. need i go on?

Nope. I'll be generous and say that 1 in 4 matches, there are Lurms involved. Out of that portion of matches that do occur, 1 in 4 matches, they are used properly (this means good firing locations and good spotting).

b:) this topic has become such a hot button issue?

It is always a hot button issue because of the discrepancies on what people think LRMs are, and what they actually are. This in conjunction at the level of play and usage, distorts the view of the LRM further.

Here's what it sounds like in this game.

Newbies using LRMs vs other newbies:
It's so easy, anyone can use it.

Newbies using LRMs vs veterans:
It's so ineffective, LRMs need a buff!

LRMs vs newbies reaction:
How am I supposed to avoid this OP weapon? They need to be nerfed. They are point and click!

LRMs vs veteran reaction:
lol Lurms

Veterans using LRMs vs veterans:
FFS guys, SPOT FOR ME

Veterans using LRMs with good spotters vs anyone:
LURMS BLOCK OUT TEH SUN!

That is the jist of how LRMs are considered by the community.

AMS is effective, but not enough people carry it and/or are not truly threatened by LRMs in general.

So they aren't balanced. You just rattled off all these things to counter LRM that no other weapon has against it. They got the **** end of the stick when it came to balancing due to everyone QQing (lights).

I'm curious when I see players post about lrmaghedon and LRMpocaltpse.

Which event was which to most players the lrm artemis patch at the end of 2012 or the hitbox lrm patch 5 months ago or so?

For any who remember and those who weren't here lrms at the end of 2012 (nov I think) got the artemis buff and became God's hammer for a week or so. They had the flight charactersitics of our current missiles and near 1.9 damage plus splash.
Never ever have they approached that lvl of power since. The hitbox patch most I beleive are calling lrmpocaltpse was nowhere near as powerful.

But even at that lvl of power lrms are very conditional at best and easily countered. To make lrms effective a team has to build an actual game plan around lrms.
