The Griffin is the perfect Light-Hunter imho.
Pack it with MPLs, Streaks, a BAP and a large engine and you're a mean SOB. ^^

So no ballistics means a mech is bad?

People these days...

THe hardpoints not being spread out a bit is the biggest issue. No Balistics simply means it doesn't fit the current meta very well.

GRF-1N

Here ya go. Very mobile striker that can use the entire left side of it's body as a shield. Not great for early game, but should be a nasty asset once the teams start colliding.

What annoys me most is the griffins we are getting are the 1N (The usual one) 1S(lasers instead of ppc) and another over priced POS in the 3M (XL/DHS/ERppc/LRM20) meaning if you didnt get the propho packs and want to play griffins youll need to tank a stupid amount of Cbills into a sub par mech.

If PGI wasnt so hard up on some things we could have got a 2N and at least then it would have a ECM.

Meta be damned. Just give me more mechs with a side of new game modes. The addition of Solaris VII would smash the meta to bits.

WHINE, COMPLAIN, MOAN, *****.

this game only promotes full-on-face-up-assing in so many ways.

scouting? nope.
tactics? nope.
Balanced builds? what are those because Ac20 Jagers still roam with impunity.
smashing in like 2 trains? the only way to go.

I love this game, but some of the choices only reinforce this "Meta" desperately avoided by many games.

just look at TeamFortress 2, their weapon revision logs are ridiculously large because they wanted to keep that balance and avoid "META".

now 7 years later people still play.

The griffin looks to be a formidable brawler with an entire side of the mech you can use as a shield to twist away from damage like a 55 ton centurion. 3ml 3 SRM 6 and lots of fun.

This is why I want bigger maps with random drop points. Maps so big assault pilots need to carefully consider where they are crawling to and beg their faster lancemates to stay nearby so they don't get caught alone without support half a map away. Scouting a large map in MW4 was a rush. You were never totally certain where the enemy was and you had to keep an eye on how far behind your allies were because you didn't want to turn a corner and get caught alone without help.

Eh. I am way more excited about the Wolverine anyway. I am sure the Griffin will be just fine.

I just find it curious that they picked two more 55 ton mediums for the Saber package. Someone that grabbed Overlord and Saber packages gets a total of 18 mechs, and 9 of them are 55 ton mediums.

It's actually why I didn't get it - I already had Centurions, Catapults and Ravens, and added the Locusts, Shadow Hawks, Thunderbolts and Battlemasters with the Phoenix Package. Last thing I wanted was more mediums.

I'm having a hard time seeing what the Saber mechs can do that my Kintaros can't (besides jump).

I'll probably get the Saber package anyway. I'm a sucker for new mechs.

Because those are the mechs that were available to them?

Because mediums will become more used when tonnage limits come out?

Because 55 tons is a sweet spot in speed/weapons/durability in TT and has many popular mechs?

Forget the stravag meta and play your game! ;)

I agree. I think people get way too wrapped around the "meta". If a mech offers even just a slightly different game play experience, I'm interested.

This. Is. Truth.

They added a couple lighter mediums (Treb, Blackjack), nobody uses them. Too slow, too weak, worst of all worlds. Even the Hunchie is a bit of a fringe mech in competition (though okay in tonnage limited scenarios). Centurion is good, but mostly due to inexplicable durability.

Now, look at the Shadowhawk. It's already seeing heavy competitive use, potentially the best all around medium - maybe knocks the centurion off its pedestal (or at least shares it).

Likewise, the Kintaro has some decent applications, particularly in lower tonnage comp. matches (SSRM overload!). It seems to met that adding a couple more 55 tonne mediums will only help make mediums more prevalent on the battlefield.
