It all depends on your point of view, doesn't it?
I understand what Heffay was saying. 3rd person PV is a view from something that doesn't exist. The drone gives you first person view from the drone at a location behind the mech, it's a very logical and clear explanation.
Come to think of it, battletech (which is where mechwarrior originated came from) was a table top turn-based pnp game. While playing that game I certainly never ever recall seeing the battlefield from the 1st PV. We played the game as if from the perspective of a drone. Not a teeny weeny behind the mech drone either but a high in the sky see everything type drone.
Food for thought about the anger against the drone.

Please compare your so called "1PV from tabletop" with a isometrical view game at least, like Mechwarrior Tactics, not MWO.

"For offline play, there are 26 missions in total and you also get the option to customize your machines."
Now why would they combine MWO with MW4?? well, MWO alone wouldnt have even made a the list with how much it's lacking, so it had to bring up another MW title well over a decade old.
bahahahahahaha

MWO isnt much better at being a mech game.
The only real modern take on the Mech experience i've had so far to date is that really short mech battle in Metal Gear solid 4, while you pilot MGRex.....
thats sad.

Remember, the full name of 3PV is "3rd Person View". That means there is a third entity that is viewing the scenario. That 3rd person/entity is the drone. it's not the pilot, which is the "first person". The guy that sits inside the cockpit.
When you switch to "3PV", you see the view out of the drone. When you're in 1PV, you see as the pilot does. 3PV wouldn't be 3PV if we instead just saw the drone like the pilot sees the drone's perspective through a monitor in his cockpit.
(Which would be a cool use for some of those monitors, but apparently, unfeasible wtih Crytek as used by PGI, at least.)
Anyway, it's all meaningless to discuss these finer points, because the original reason for people to dislike 3PV was not dependent on whether it was a drone or not, but whether it would allow looking around cover and enable certain "unfortunate" gameplay with people talking aim or surveying the battlefield without exposing themselves to risk of counter-fire, which is what we have.

Yup, it's going to completely destroy the sim nature of the game, just like it's going to do to Star Citizen. I can't believe they are implementing the exact same system.

I agree with the first part. And it will destroy the immersion too.
But it's not the same exact system. In 3PV you lost the whole HUD. On MWO you lost the minimap only. It wont affect the gameplay too much on SC because there is no cover to peek without expusure to enemy fire, speed is different, etc.

You obviously didn't watch the dogfighting demo.
I watched the gameplay video.

Cover is very important for MWO, because its a slow vertical tank.
Stationary cover is very important for a blazing speed spaceship?

For scouting purposes? Absolutely. Risk free scouting: A feature both MWO and SC have in common.
