We could just play Rock'em Sock'em Robots.
PGI, just make a Kiddie Pool server for all these take stuff out and nerf everything guys to play the sad game they want to play.

You may be interested in the TT I don't think it had jump sniping.

In fact it did not but i really didn't think it was relevant enough to point out. I guess it was too much to ask for reasonable discussion here. What was presented was constructive and in no way asking to OMG NERF THIS NAO. Not a single person has bothered to articulate their concerns with this. Instead what we get is attacks on my unknown ability level ingame.

something like this, we've had streaks nerfed, lurms nerfed buffed nerfed {still ongoing apparently} ppcs buffed and nerfed and nerfed some more, gauss nerfed, lasers nerfed, MGs buffed and nerfed, ecm over done then countered to oblivion and left that way, bap got changed specifically to be an ecm nerf.
seriously this game is being nerfed into oblivion!
MWO must've been OP.

While I cannot comment intelligently upon the microcosm that is germane to high-level competition, I would imagine if it can be taken advantage of, the top-tier will find a way to abuse it if it leads to competitive-level victory. At PUG level, I can honestly say very few of the boogeymen truly exist...
Oh sure, there are plenty posers trying to pull off the min/max da jur and the vaunted fotm club offerings but they largely lack the expertise to maximize either meta... and as such are reasonably easy to counter.
Reality is, you know when a high-level player is trolling the kiddie-pool very quickly...

Wait until JJ firing get's associated with Premades,

I don't know if it should be done just to "cure" jump snipers. There is little reason why that play style should be villified over any other. It makes perfect sense - limit your exposure to retrun fire. Of course if the hit boxes actually stayed true while jumping that would be uber good so you can reliably hit people that are jumping. Maps with cover features that can be used to close on jump snipers would also even the play field so to speak.
And if you crash back into the ground after spending all your jump juice to go up, you should take serious damage. But you don't. Making jump snipers feather their jets to land and whatch their fuel seems only fair.
Bottom line - I'm not in favor of the original idea but it wouldn't ruin my day if implemented. And I doubt it would "solve" and percieved game "problems".

if you got hit a second time, ok maybe you didnt see it the first time.
if you get hit a 3rd time, wtf...... move your steel buns and stop trying to fight against it. flank them and over run them.

This is stupid like ghost heat.
After a while.
It´s realistic;
the Knockback of some weapons can bring a mech out of balance
After some more thinkings
Good balance options.
Lasers can be buffed, becouse of working in jumpinp. but not so hard becouse of the laser spread

We can talk about JJ shake, accuracy penalties, fall damage.... but IMO there is no way that even a canon mech pilot would not at some point or another in their career use their JJ's advantageously to take a midair shot. Perhaps they just lacked the imagination in the 80's to fully realize their potential (puts on tinfoil hat and runs away

Ive always believed the jumping mech to be extremely vulnerable, especially if they continue jumping after the first shot. Yes they pop out of and back into cover... all the while taking damage + added leg damage if they burn all their juice. I don't see anything unreasonable about this. Risk vs Reward, its just that people don't deal with poptarts well. Most freeze like a deer in the headlights and turn torso facing where the last shot came from.... waiting to return fire only to take 2 x the damage!
And yes a group of poptarts does suck to fight against, but then again many things in MWO get worse with force multiplication. Lots of (Insert X) traditionally sucks.... unless of course X = 12 man locust drop...... mmmm chicken wings.....

While this eliminates pop tarting it also affects mechs in close combat and I acknowledge this. I even use jump jets on mechs like the shadow hawk while brawling to make myself harder to hit, but I would be ok with having to trade firepower for survivability and manueverability.
Comments/ concerns are welcome. I am more just curious to see what people think of the idea.
Totally agree... it is something that detracts from the game.
JJs make it hard for an attacker to focus mixed weapons at you while you still get your pinpoint shot? Rediculous.
There is a reason that the CTF-3D and HGN-733C are popular... it's because they have Jets and focusable Ballistic + Energy mounts that allow maximum focus damage without overheating. In combat they tap the thrusters while returning fire. Result? You take incoming damage to one area, while you spread your damage all over their mech.
It's a bullcrap game mechanic that is 1/2 nonsense and 1/2 exploiting hit scans, and it takes NO SKILL to abuse.

The problem isnt poptarting. Its pinpoint alpha. Poptarting wouldnt be scary if pinpoint alpha weapons werent as effective. And nerfing poptarting wont make pinpoint alpha weapons any less effective.
We need to stop treating the symptoms and instead treat the actual illness, by nerfing pinpoint alpha weapons like the PPC, AC/20, AC/5, and making them spread damage around more. Mechs doing 30-40 damage to a single location is absurdly overpowered with the current armor values.
QFT. This really covers everything. Fix this problem and half the junk people cry about, including ghost heat and now jump sniping would be no problem.

Hey guys, In TT you couldn't jump while firing!
That being said, I think that so far the Devs have kinda sorta made this an issue to solve, and for the most part they have.
Ok that's my one PGI compliment for the last/next 6 months.
Enjoy.
e: Trust me it was alot worse a few months ago and tons of people quit.
