Ah well. looking at the previous thread for the all entries voting, the amount of likes for the submissions match relatively the same as this voting phase. Keeping in mind that only one person can vote once instead of multiple times will have an effect on the differences. Seeing such a large amount of likes on Marcobra's in the all entries phase of voting, I think the results in this case make sense when people are faced with a decision. I don't suspect anything suspicious.

Depends how far you go. Macross far only works when you can save yourself from falling by flying though.

I am not shocked. Mar's seemed the clear cut winner on the semi finals too.

For what it's worth, the only person in my personal life that even knows and cares about this contest is my son, and I encouraged him not to just pick mine out of loyalty. He said he wasn't planning on it and went with Bishop
Sorry for any spelling errors... on my phone.

I love Shimmering Swords more. I think Bishop's suffers from an angle I do not like more than being a lesser design. Karyudo's is very nice but the freehand didn't resonate as much with me despite the underlying design being awesome. Resident took the art style in a direction that seemed irreconcilable with MWO despite being one of the best designs and very solid art.
In the End Marcobra just did it best, even if I have serious questions about how that cockpit will work functionally. He is in the lead because he gave us something we could have expected from Alex himself.

I will say that this would have been a much tougher call. I think this would have put you at a close 2nd to Marcobra for me. It is just hard to compete with the level of polish he applied. Perhaps it would have made sense to have a limit on detail, like a CAD type design contest rather than competing on artistry as well.

eh, I am not worried. I think you may well be on to something. A lot of people in MWO don't really know or care about the Marauder..:Those that do are very passionate. from the pure art perspective, your's pretty well blows the rest out of the water. Hence it makes sense it works best for the casuals. As for the "faithful" we all have very divergent thoughts on the "proper" redesign, so I am sure quite a few also are in your camp.
It's a great piece man, and so I definitely don't mind losing to it! And tell your son thank you very much!!!!
Good show there mate! Cheers!

I appreciate that. I didn't want to "recycle" a design though, as I felt it would be against the spirit, if not the rules of the competition. I have long accepted my art skills are not up there with the other 4 (I'm not delusional), I feel my strength really is in concept ideas, though I hope to some day get in the ball park as an actual artist. Just seeing what Kiriage has done with my concept work on the King Crab tells me where my place is. If I can inspire some of these amazing digital artists, or work with (as I have had a chance to do wit h several) I fell pretty fulfilled!
As I said, I am honestly shocked to be doing as well as I have in the contest, as I can count at least a dozen submissions that were just plain better art than mine. I am very glad that a lot of people seem to like my ideas!

Oh I'm sure you have nothing but time sir, nothing but. Maybe also great rendering skill, but mostly time.
I'm a loyal fan of the IP, but also of Macross specifically. There were bits of the design that didn't appeal to me but honestly when looking through the entries I really didn't have any idea what I would "expect a Marauder to look like" as it was put oddly enough.

I did choose to be kind and not call in my DeviantArt watchers. 12,000 people getting a "vote for me" request might not have been fair
I'd probably have faired better if I spent more time on mine as it really was a rushed job, and essentially all the critiques I've received over this competition are things I would have normally worked out through a regular production pace. Hard to pull votes with "this, but imagine better".
Marcobra put in his best which a lot of us didn't do, and that's what wins the cake quite deservingly.
If I'm to have my honest word, I'd say I wish more voting weight was put toward entries that executed the MWO style well, and that there wasn't as much fear of Harmony Gold lawsuits.
My past marauder design was deemed safe enough by CGL to be published with only minor changes, so I don't think any of these final 5 came even close to deserving a "looks like a marauder" penalty. It was a little shocking to see "I voted for this because it looks least like a marauder" as the reasoning for many.
A little self serving opinion, but I know these points where also the downfall of several others who were favorite picks of mine.

I just had a funny thought though, what if they were able to license Macross Zero equivalent designs? In Japan a Tomahawk and a Cheyenne are to different things, I can only imagine how Harmony Gold would try to attack that. Would be entertaining to watch.

dear goodness please no more licensed designs...... I think one thing the Btech powers that be did get right is the concept now of "Our designs only". And they are tapping so many awesome artists now, something FASA never did (actually, if I recall correctly, they still owe Mike Stackpole for a lot of his novels, but I digress).
I think Shim brings a good point to the table about the whole "mindset" we seem to have adopted which is very HG gunshy.
BTW...Moon Unit, it's 12:15 AM PST ain't it? You gonna close this thing?
