PGI seem a little behind with the reasons that the Awesome is a bad assault pick, or more likely, are tuning the Mech slowly. Nevertheless, if it were just the size of the Mech, a skilled pilot could still peak around with one arm the way you would with an Orion and do reasonably. However, it's the effect of ghost heat and the poor state missiles are in right now that really makes the whole chassis a liability, and no amount of hit box fixing will help that.

I guess you've never heard of this mech called "Stalker" :)

Side note, tell a Stalker to look up. His CT's as long as an Atlas is tall from hip to head. It's just easier to hit from above and below.

i was worried they would turn my 9M into a deathtrap with its XL, not so. i took a pounding getting hit from all directions (normally your downfall as you can only torso twist away from so many directions) and i died to CT, with both arms and both torsos with orange or yellow internals. pretty well distributed damage.

my STD awesome seems fine. the nice thing is the legs do take some damage away from the CT now.

Changed Awesomes to the 8V. Made a mistake.

Utterly humiliated, but hey... CT was the last to go in the 3 seconds of incoming fire.

All assault mechs have giant center torsos. The Awesome seems pretty on par with the other assaults now, the main issue before was how easy it was to headshot.

Which Assault mech do you mean? Atlas, no. Stalker, no. Battlemaster, no. Victor, no. Highlander, no. Okay, I must be missing the Assault mechs with the big center torso then. And getting headshot was not a problem with the Awesome. I guess it's just the model MWO uses for the Awesome being too wide.

Of course I had been saying for a long time that the hit-boxes for the Awesomes arms could be made larger and the side torsos moved inward eliminating alot of the Awesome's CT size while keeping everything else about equal sized. Maybe they did that, I will go test it out.

Awesome needs superior cooling if this hitbox revamp didn't work though.

As an atlas pilot I will agree with what he said - the atlas loses the CT pretty darn often since it has the whole 'head ball' except the left eye, along with formerly the whole crotch!

Also, I can count on my fingers the number of times I remember losing an arm before side torso was gone. The number of times a leg was lost before the mech was dead on one hand.

Yeah despite 80 CT, 50 STs for armor, I literally died faster than I could come to a full stop. That's how quick it was.

I know the actual sizes and locations of the hitboxes because I tested where hits registered on the diagram. The Atlas has a pea-sized CT compared to other mechs. Go check if you don't believe me.

Seriously, that LRM launcher in the CT is the CT hitbox and just the front of it, not the sides of it or the even the flanges. From there the CT extends down the center of the mech at that same width until you reach the center gyro for the legs. So I think your Atlas is being crotch-shot and supposedly that is now the legs so don't get legged.

On the Awesome however the sides of the CT are also CT, or they were, which makes no sense at all when you compare that to the Atlas arrangement.

Killed by a Cataphract and his Jager buddy. 200 meters-ish.
Awesome 8R.

Note: First 4 alphas of LRM-60 were good and manageable. But each time I did it, the amount of heat generated per firing got worse despite waiting until 0.

Went up against a team with a pair of Awesomes on Canyon today, so I can only speak from shooting at them, but they seem more solid - actually taking hits and losing components vs. crumpling like a cheap tin can. They felt like a light assault mech vs. a target.

We'll still need ghost heat ditched and missiles to work for the Awesome to really be worth much, but I get the feeling they are no longer also made of pre-shattered glass.

We can hope. PGI's current production model of releasing new mechs that are slight variations of existing mechs is completely dumb and unsustainable in the long-run. They need to do way more to differentiate each mech. Every mech needs a unique skill tree IMO.

i'd much prefer a crit slot system along with adding-subtracting hardpoints so that my stalker layout couldn't mimic any awesome layout, but yeah a pilot tree instead of a screw you trial mechs magic upgrade system would be a good start!

Scored headshot on a Cataphract a half second before dying using 3 SPLs. Awesome 8R.

Died from a shot to the back. Left torso. It's really weird to keep losing that left torso considering that I barely have weapons in the left sides and I'm not twisting to preserve myself.

(I'm charging enemies head on mostly. Have noticed most CT deaths are at 500 meters or more. Most ST deaths are at 100 to 400 meters.) Armor allocation 88 and 56 fronts, 12 rears.

I would of hoped for a bigger step, making the Arms hitboxes much much bigger and the CT smaller.

At this point getting them to go back and do it right is all but impossible

But it is a step in the right direction.

So thank you for listening PGI.

Shot from behind while dealing with spiders. Of the entire team -- now that I'm playing with another person in a two-man, me and Lordred were the last two alive. Him in a Locust. Me in the Awesome.

Posted Image
Finally died by RT. No one on my team got any kills. Not even the spiders died.

Sadly the results of this one really had me down. I barely shot anything.

The Awesome's crotch is now divided between the legs. Only other change was the sides of the old CT are slightly smaller, like one half of the distance the CT projects forward instead of all of it. That portion is obviously side torso now.

I was thinking they would make the arms hitbox larger, since they are and then give the Awesome the same hitbox styled CT that the Atlas has, which would mean only the front facing elements of the CT are the CT. The Awesome would still be as wide as a barn compared to other mech's CT's, now it's double-wide. I guess that's better than the old triple-wide, but still an unmissable target.

Thanks anyway though.

I'm still getting killed to CT coring with yellow/orange armour everywhere else, although i have had games when i lost both sides before going down, but on balance i don't think things have changed all that much.
