The KD ratio is a fun stat to look at and brag about, but it is far from telling the whole story. Mine's at 1.3 after 1300 matches. With that said, my main focus is winning. I've gone multi-game streaks without a single kill, others that I get 5 in a row. It's all about your role and tactics. As an Atlas getting the kill shot is far from my main objective.

^^ Agree. I'm average and just above 2. Most of the good players are 6 +
I will have to disagree with this statement. Again we must consider what stats are important for a given role and mech. I play with a lot of good pilots who are far from a 6+ ratio. IMHO, a 6+ ratio would cause me to worry about a pilot for a couple of reasons:
1. Are they more concerned with killing than winning?
2. A high ratio indicates good survivability, definately a good trait. However, can I, as the guy taking point, be assured that they'll have my back? Or are they going to run and hide if we walk up on more than 3 guys, leaving my fat butt to roast.
3. While not true of all skilled pilots, high KD ratios tend to over inflate egos. Sure they may be good, but if theirr ego can't fit in the cockpit, I wouldn't want them on my team anyway.
4. Plenty of pilots take one for the team, serving as a distraction to allow others to escape an engagement. Assault pilots often fill this role as they are hard pressed to make an escape once engaged.
I'm not saying that players with ratios of 6+ aren't skilled, but I see it as a far stretch to claim that most of the skilled players are that high. Always remember: stats never tell the whole story.
With all that said, I would personally be disappointed if mine dropped below a 1:1.
