Man, I'm starting to also believe Internap is just terrible. Or just the internet in general nowadays. Its gotta be hard to get a server to keep good connection for everyone in the world at the same time.

I'm no expert but your going from south korea, to california, to ny, to canada. Which looks normal to me. And your only jumping 60 ping from South Korea to the USA, which is the same as me going from NY to France at 80 ping. Also normal. and once you hit the US its not changing more then 20-30 ping before you hit the game server. What looks weird to me, is going from 4 ping to 140 ping right in your own country. Maybe there is something going on in your network, or area, or the country.
Is there a site you can test your bandwidth on like speedtest.net? to make sure you are getting the correct bandwidth that you pay for in your area? If not I would call them and complain. Or if there is another server in South Korea you can ping, and if its a little high just call them and tell them the website is too laggy and is loading very slow.
Tell them some north korean guys have been threatening to hack you from some random forum or on facebook or something, and you want your ip address changed haha.
I live in NY right across the border from where the server is, and for past couple weeks I have had high ping issues, and past couple days I'm getting dropouts when connecting to a game, or saving a mech. And I never have connection problems with other games or sites. Its suspicious. But I guess I'm lucky my ISP is one click away, a and they have no problems with clearing the network for me, changing my route, or ip address in minutes as much as I ask. But Its always only temporarily fixing the problem, which I don't understand, and becoming annoying.
Its not like so many people play the game their servers are overloaded, most people on the net aren't even wired anymore, they are on 4g. It feels like the internet in general is just constanlty under malicious attacks, and those type of people are the majority online nowadays.

I tried a couple of things today that have helped me slightly and so would throw them in here in case they prove useful to a fellow Mechwarrior.
A few weeks back I on the advise on this forum set my DNS servers to Google's public ones not my ISP's defaults. That helped a bit but then seemed like things were back to jitter ping hell again. Today I ran DNS Bench by Gibson Research it showed that one of the Google servers was glitching so I tried another lesser used DNS server it recommended and things got better real fast! Ping dropped from 190-250 with spikes to 1000 to 115- 150 with no spikes! So you might want to try what I did swap out the 8.8.8.8 Google DNS for other. Leave Google's 8.8.4.4 as your back up by all means.
Second thing I tried today was an app from SpeedGuide.net called TCP optimiser, seemed to help a it as well so I'll leave the link here in case its helpful to any of you as well.

http://dns-jumper.en.softonic.com/ is a DNS Jumper tool that allows quick changing of DNS servers. Also helps ID the fastest DNS common public DNS server with a few overseas ones as well.
I also strongly recommend using this in conjunction with the DNS Bench tool that Caswallon posted the link to. I used the TCP Optimizer, and it didn't help me at all, but why not try it for free?

My IP address is not static so it changes every time i reconnect to my DSL. Also other people from my country have been encountering this issue. I did email support and they have not replied up since my last email which was around during the patch day. I've been asking for follow ups but havent gotten a reply from them.
anyways the workaround I'm using to get my ping back to 200ish is using a VPN but it costs around 3-6 dollars per month. there are free ones out there but are pretty unstable
edit:
during the start of the match it sometimes starts of low then increases during the course of the match and typically stabilizes at 600

Well if the vpn works its not PGI then.
I have a similar problem. I called my ISP again yesterday, they were trying to tell me it was the game server also. Then i decided to just start pinging random Vancouver IP addresses from a google search. Turns out they all have the same problem. There must be a problem with my verizon fios routing to canada, especially vancouver. I I was wrong in thinking vancouver was right next to NY, Its actually westcoast, but I still shoudln't be routed through Europe to get to Canada by way of atlanta, which is ridiculous.
Or for that matter the korean guy routing through ny from california to go back to vancouver. I think the people at these ISP's have some real fishy routing, Its as if they are saving the priority routes for more important people and all of us are getting screwed. I guess the only people that would complain about ping times would be gamers anyways.
I now have the number for the expert team and I am going to call them today. I think I should be able to get a direct route, because everytime I change my ip address, I have a direct route for at least 24 hours it seems before they must automatically start rerouting me through europe again for some strange reason.
Maybe they are saving money this way somehow I'm not sure. Maybe I don't get priority because I have a residential account. Maybe its for othe reasons. I don't know but I will call them and see what they say.
Hopefully I am not screwed. I feel they only used to divert me through europe at offpeak hours. Now it seems they are doing it all the time for some mysterious reason, and its annoying me. Maybe there is just heavy traffic to canada period lately. 20 Ping might not feel different compared to 100 in the game, But I do feel my score reflects it at times. Even though this game is very playable at 100 ping.
ANd I guess I shouldn't complain, cause very little people that play this game are under 100 ping, even americans, but I feel there should be no reason for this and I am going to call and complain on principle.

Why then players from japan, south Africa, Philippines, etc are experiencing this ping issue just after the release of this patch? VPN works because it has a proper servers that handles connections from my country to Canada while PGI does not. perhaps they have changed their provider or have tweaked something with their code to handle regions and it is screwing with the ping. Also if PGI will require users to use VPN in order to continue playing this game then I guess its time to cut my losses..
This is truly very disappointing considering I've already invested on nearly 70 mechs, i guess i wont be getting the clan package.

Because the PGI game server is hosted in Vancouver Canada. Ping other servers in Vancouver canada to compare.

I really don't know why that is happening. Maybe cooncidentally there is alot of traffic going to vancouver right now, and they don't have priority. Maybe there is some New Years eve anarchists hacker groups out there right now screwing up the internet...haha
your VPN, is essentially changing the route you take. PGI is renting a vancouver server from Internap. Internap, or even your ISP, do NOT own all the major servers that connect all the major backbones along the route, which all get major traffic. They can only do so much. And only your ISP or a VPN is going to reroute your outgoing connecting.
Whats more baffling is your traceroute shows you different ping then you get in game, which is mind boggling. Is traceroute any different when you run it while connected to the game server?
Have you tried to make a new account or change your ip address? I just don't see how its possible.

I just don't see how its possible pinging the server from in game is different then pinging the server from windows. You must live in the twilight zone. It certainly wasn't the case for the Korean guy that posted his traceroute.
I suggest you keep paying the 6 dollars a month for your VPN, or complain more to your ISP and lay it all out for them.

unless i misunderstood his post, his original ping was from 250-400ms, right? If this is the case then his tracert looks about right.. But after the patch he would end up with a fluctuating ping from 600ms-1500ms?

I live in the Philippines, ask for more people to post their tracert on this thread then we would have more data to compare with. I probably wont continue paying for the VPN, instead I've asked for MWO to freeze my premium time count down till such a time comes that they can legitimately support international players.

"The problem you have encountered is a known issue and we hope to have it fixed soon. We're currently investigating an issue that seems to have impacted connectivity, especially for players connecting from overseas. We're asking players to talk to their ISPs as well as normal connection tests are returning normal results, however gaming traffic is a bit different. We're exploring the theory that with the release of the new generation of consoles, some ISPs are doing strange things to gaming traffic. Different games handle this in different ways and since MWO is still a work in progress, chances are it's suffering a bit more as a result. "
MWO- Ticket 26/11/13
also this ticket from last november 26 posted by mastawolf states that connection tests are returning normal results however gaming traffic is a bit different. Hopefully though they have enough time to fix this since the holidays are over
