Oh well - tweaks are better than nothing at all I guess....

I've cleared a LARGE space on my hard drive for a proper Christmas Patch though #expecting bigger things....oh like these maps and game modes maybe?

Thanks for your efforts

Yes, I am really hoping for some more ... something.... New UI, CW... new maps.. something.

Also these hitbox changes worry me a bit, some are good, but I don't really see why the Cicada needed to have a fatter rear hitbox when it's already kind of mediocre.

If a Cicada is getting hit in the back, it doesn't matter what size it is back there. It's going to die.

LOL. Sorry. I think the following has been pointed out before but I will repeat it.

The ENGINEERS that do netcode, host state rewind, UI 2.0, CW are NOT the same as the ARTISTS that do hero mechs, cockpit items, weapon art work, map layouts, map tweaks, mech variants.

The problem is that PGI employs far MORE artists that engineers. Look at their corporate linked-in profile. There were about 17 artists and 6 software engineers last time I checked. PGI has invested in three times more artists than engineers. All of the heavy lifting on the engineering side is supported by 6 to 10 developers (and that number assumes not everyone has put themselves on linked-in or has properly identified their role).

Basically, PGI is far under-staffed for the slate of engineering development tasks on their priority list. (At least based on the limited data available). As a result, PGI has many patches that are dominated by art content and few that include engineering improvements.

Also, keep in mind that engineering code is much higher risk than art assets. Engineering changes could break the game while bugs in art changes are unlikely to be more than an inconvenience. Given PGI's track record of testing and the number of bugs currently reported in UI2.0 (look at the test feedback threads and known issue threads) ... they are justifiably concerned about introducing new code.

Thanks, man. I supposed I've read that, in one form or other, and just didn't manage to put two and two together.

Makes you wonder, though. It may or may not be intentional, but it really comes across as an attitude of "we don't really care if the game itself continues to move toward any of the gameplay issues we've promised to address as long as you keep pumping cash into the MC machine for all the cool artsy stuff we come up with."

Doesn't really matter, though. They don't seem to be in any danger of delcaring bankruptcy, they seem to have a decent sized fanbase (granted, it's more a matter of new people filtering in and out than from loyal players sticking with the game), and they've got a death-grip on the franchise.....which pretty much leaves anyone more competent out of the running of developing a better game.

I'm not saying I could do a better job, I'm not saying I'm quitting...I'm just pointing out that some of the core gameplay issues should have been addressed and patched before they added more "buy me! buy me!" {Scrap}. Guess they want to have a company Xmas in Hawaii this year.

I wanna know if PGI is taking notes on how the American government talks to it's citizens.

Cause Russ tweet and the release of this patch seem to point to it.

actually thats how i felt reading yesterdayall the command posts. I hate to rip on personalities, because well, they cant help that i guess, but i wish we had different personalities at the helm

It's like waiting for your first child to be born. It takes forever but it will happen someday.

And when your child ends up with an extra arm, a vestigial tail, and a few too few chromosomes, the doctor will smugly cross her arms and say, "What? you wanted a child. You should have been more specific when you asked for one."

From the December update you might get that UI2.0 wish. Seems like they've decided that delivering a product with a few flaws is better than putting more delays out there. We'll see though.

You're trying to appeal to people who can't identify patterns. They're usually the ones who always wonder what time the patch is, when their Project Phoenix mechs will be injected, and if not asking what the friday patch was, QQing about how Friday's patch is always a sale with no real content :)

Pretty sure Russ in his tweet is also very excited for the 17th patch mostly due to the Wolverine and Griffin coming out for Sabre buyers as well as the new map. I don't read into them as much as some people.

My kid would own other kids with that.

I think not ... the ECM commando 2D can fit 3 streaks, a laser and ECM ... and I don't see it wrecking other light mechs. Also, lots of mediums can fit 4 (or more) streaks as well. Finally, my 4 medium laser, 2SSRM2 or 2SRM4 Jenner D will blow its leg off first then finish it off ... so no ... I don't see it as much of a threat to lights.

Its main threat in my opinion will be a somewhat slower 2xSRM6 2xSRM4 or 4xSRM4 anti-heavy/assault role. It runs up behind the heavy opposing mechs and unloads 32 to 40 point alpha volleys into the rear armor. In my opinion this is why they removed the jump jets and made is slower to accelerate ... it makes it easier to take out when being used this way ... otherwise it could be over-powered ... but it still seems like a one-trick pony to me. (I've never liked LRMs on lights but I supposed a 4xLRM5 configuration for ranged support would be an option too).

Imagine it's a 12 man drop. The enemy team deploys three or four of these Jenners each with four ssrm 2's as their light lance. And possibly a ssrm Kintaro or Shadowhawk. Your sides lights would be in trouble, sure in a one v one engagement you could cripple it and kill it. With four of them all focusing...

Yeah it is a pattern with PGI that the art is great and the technical part pretty poor.
I surely hope for a better future!

By the way:
Thanks PGI for the 'Pult Cannon overhaul!

I must admit that I am really disappointed by this patch as I see no progress (coding wise). This patch is full of design fixes (hit boxes, spawn points, map tweaks), but there are no fixes visible at the code base.

So lets hope that this is because the developers are working hardly (not hardly working) to finalize stuff for the third Tuesday patch and deliver a real content patch then.

Well at least no one can say that the new Jenner is pay to win. I mean when's the last time you saw a mas of SRMS and were like "GAH! I'M GONNA DIE!"

this jenner hero mech is a joke. i would expect a jenner "hero" mech to have more jumpjets.. but noooo.. whoever thought of this must either really hate jenners or dont know how to drive one.

Greetings all,

To Kyle Polulak (Website Overlord) or Niko Snow (IGP Community Manager):

You need to update the patch notes on both the forums header and the MWO game interface. Both point to the Novembers patch.

Reference todays patch, moving the main base's should have an interesting change in tactics for the various maps. Updating and repairing additional mechs' hit box's is always a great thing, and the art work and animations will be interesting to see in game.

later,
9erRed

at least until SRMs are fixed. I'd imagine quad SRM4 could potentially be deadly, but not until SRMs are worth a damn again.
