I am certain it had nothing to do with Microsoft not releasing the license for years and years. I'm also pretty sure there wasn't a fan made mod of Crysis built because there obviously wasn't anyone who wanted a new version of Mechwarrior.

Umm so why was PGI shopping it around and found no backers? Also no one played that mod that's why it shut down. Like I said soon enough you may get your wish and there will only be as many people as played MWLL. I'm sure that will support new content and adding staff and this game will be plenty successful. Look how fast things are progressing with a larger audience, I'm sure with less people things will pick right up.

I'm going to say something unpopular
The people with all the shiny founders badges and the year 2012 in their join dates? They're the primary monetary support for this game. The lack of micro-transactions keeps the casual player at bay for sustained purchases and income. That's not good, bad, or indifferent, that's just my opinion based on posts, and conversations. That's not an elitist attitude, that's my opinion.
What does this translate to? Well status quo means we will continue to sustain while they improve. Once it's improved and we get a more finished game with CW, UI2.0, etc. new players will have better retention rates. Basically this is why I sincerely doubt the game is going to "die". It's just entertaining enough for me to spend a $100/year on and have some fun online with fun people I enjoy cutting up with while beating down opponents and getting stomped by evil pugs.

Revisionist history? MW:LL was shut down because no one played it? Are you sure it wasn't because they were asked politely to shut down... or else?
Had they made the game the hardcore fanbase wanted then yes we would have thrown endless money at them. They didn't.

So you're saying that lots of people played MWLL, that's revisionist history. Spin your conspiracy theories all you want, no one played that mod. I'm not 100% sure why it closed but I am 100% sure no one played it. I'm tired of the handful of hardcore MWLL enthusiasts who think that mod was so great that simply can't see that NO ONE PLAYED IT!!!!
MWO told it's hard core audience they weren't the demogrpahic aimed at and then failed to cater to the new people that some one told them would come in droves once they added 3PV. You can't please all the people but you sure can **** off most of them.

I never said people played it. Go back and check. I said it didn't close because no one played it. ~I~ didn't play it because it didn't fit what I wanted until much later into development and by then MWO was a glint on the horizon. However, the point remains that there was a hardcore group that built it and maintained it. There was a hardcore group that updated MW4 and kept that going. It's not that we are not interested in Battletech/Mechwarrior, it is that no company can wrap it's head around the fact that they need to build a game that functions according to lore instead of half-assing it.
There are battlepods still running Battletech in my city.
PGI told us what MWO was going to be and not be... then didn't make that game. However, what they made is still fun... for now. I'm not going to **** myself screaming about how horrible this game is because that is a rather worthless approach to life in general. Instead I'll enjoy what I like about this game and life and not get too uptight about the things I don't like so I end up not having the chance to enjoy the things I do like. Unlike 90% of the forum.

To say that no-one played, or is playing it, it a lie. I was playing earlier with two dozen people...yes, that is a very small number, but it's still a full server. It's something different than MWO.
That, and SRMs that actually register are beautiful things.

Holy **** 24 people, I take back everything I said. LOL I get it, a tiny dedicated group played it and everytime it's brought up they come out and jibber jabber about how great it was and how the MWO team killed it. Get over yourselves. Statistically speaking NO ONE PLAYED IT. I don't care about your anecdotal 1 time high point. So jibber jabber moar and spin your conspiracies. It's tiresome and sad. Like I said, a tiny group put a lot of work in, and they really want people to think it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but for all intents and purposes my point stands. NO ONE PLAYED IT.

So, disputing that some people DO play it on a regular basis...let alone the events I don't partake in.
Fine, just like MWO is dying because YOU (or whoever) says so.

Never argue with zealots. So yes MWLL is enormously popular and was a perfect example of a thriving community if not for the evil MWO team it would have continued to soar into the tens of players. I beg forgiveness for even daring to suggest it never achieved a critical mass of players and was only home to a tiny yet dedicated group who to this day expound it's virtues and curse the day it's team shut it down. They couldn't possibly have done that due to low player numbers based on the anecdotal accounts of said zealots. Curse you MWO devs for killing this massive thriving community. If only given time they may even have achieved 4 digits.
I never said this game was dying. I stated there a lot of reasons why people are getting burned out. Your toleration for repeated matches with no end game in 2 remarkably similar modes may vary. I merely pointed out that an F2P thrives on new players, not a small group of whales. Again anecdotal evidence to the contrary cancels this out.

Now, when did I state PGI killed LL? No where is the answer.
But yes, stale gameplay will burn some people out. I still enjoy shooting mechs every now and then, with either MWO or LL. Both have their appeals. Working hit detection and functional JJs, compared to jumping into a mech and dropped immediately.
Personally, I have no reason to believe the community is dying, I've never had a match fail to find a game, aside from 12 mans.

I am 100% I know why it closed down being a one of the developers.
I am 100% sure that the close to 17000+ people who played the mod also disagree with you
