Yeah! It feels like an open world pvp/pve mwo in space. It is in my humble opinion, the most epic space game ever created... just imagine Eve, except more hardcore.

Someone shows up at your house and punches you in the gut when your carrier blows up?

Not sure how it can more hardcore...

Built the miner Cobra. Turns out two Class 2 mining lasers + metallic ring with pristine reserve + 40 cargo hold = lots of money. Made 2.3 mil in a day, immediately bought a Viper.

And Viper might be slightly OP.

Also my exploring Hauler is taking shape, only needs another 1.5 mil cred for a Advanced Discovery Scanner.

I've heard stories that some Russian kids cut the powerline of a rival carrier pilot so his ship would be dead in the water. I'm sorry but nothing's more hardcore than EVE.

All I play is this game now. I do a drop or two a night in MWO but quickly re-discover my anger towards the matchmaker and go back to Elite. And I love it. :)

On a sidenote, I'd actually pay something if smurfy would do an Elite version of his 'mech tool...

By now, the game would surely warrant something like that!
(and I love the look 'n feel of smurfy's about as much as I like toying with loadouts)

"Elite: Dangerous - It's the start of something big, bold and beautiful."

"In September 1984, little did a game publisher known as AcornSoft realize that they were about to change the fledgling computer gaming world forever. The game they released that day was called Elite. It was a space flight simulator/trading game set in an open ended gaming world. The game was so revolutionary and daring that people would debate and discuss it years after its release. It would go on to be named one of the most influential computer games by numerous gaming magazines, developers, and computer gaming enthusiast from around the world - that game was Elite."

"The good thing about all the things I have mentioned - Elite has a great tutorial system that allows you to practice everything I have mentioned and more. You can practice everything as many times as you want without actually being in the game world itself. There are also videos available on the main website that will walk you through most aspects of this game. Once you get comfortable with the games workings and how to pilot and land your ship, you can jump into the main game and be ready to go."

You cant just park your carrier next to an enemy and blow them up, you have to actually aim your guns.
You cant just park your carrier next to an asteroid and afk while your cargo hold fills up, you have to actually scoop the ore.
You cant hide in high security space and not get ganked. In elite you can be blown up on the landing pad BEFORE YOU EVEN TAKE OFF.

Oh and I think I won the game.

1.6 mil - ONE WAY TRIP. Can make almost as much on the return voyage.... its about 3 mil. I've been doing it once a day for the past few days.

I now have a fully upgraded Asp and *two* 2 fully kitted out PVP vipers, one in Lave and one in my home system of Ayethi... and I am 1/2 way to a Python.

Yeah, rare goods always spawn at the same spot. Only thing is, the damn farmers union will only let you buy a maximum of 17 at once. If you have 17 in your cargo hold, they wont sell you more. So I parked my Lakkon type 6 outside of Harvestport's no fire zone and my buddy went and brought out 17 at a time, dropped them for me to scoop up.

My home system is in the middle of a cluster of 'old world' systems that all sell small amounts of rare goods. You can actually fill up a 100 ton cargo hold with rares by looping around, you don't really need to have a second player. Second player ferrying the goods to you is slightly faster tho, since you don't have to wait as long for the goods to respawn, since some times the ports that sell rare goods will sell you less then the max allowed, and you will have to wait for the stock to refresh. (rare stock refreshes when the mission board does).

Here is the route I use in my asp w/84 tons of cargo space :
Kappa Fornacis (17) -> Tanmark (9) -> Utgaroar (15) -> Coquim (20) -> Phiagre (6) -> Delta Phoenicis (17) = 84 tons
Lave (7) -> Leesti(14+7) -> Diso (15) -> Orrere(16) = 59 tons

Stock up a full cargo hold.... jump it 160LY to Lave. Stock up at Lave, jump it back. Return trip is slightly less profitable.... but still worth it. You can fill up a cobra pretty easy; make about 500k each way; but the journey from Delta Phoenicis to Lave is pretty brutal in anything with less then 20 LY jump range.

I normally make the trip in 3 legs; stopping over eather in the Cet and Atum, or the Sorbago and My Apodis systems to calculate the next leg of the trip. (depending on if I leave from delta phoenicis or Utgaroar). Big fuel scoop is a requirement; altho my asp can make the trip in 13 jumps, without refueling... and still have room for a kill warrent scanner and 6 hardpoints to kill anything that tries to interdict me. I love that thing!

Well that's interesting. I have yet to try trading. It's what I do for my day job so I've never really been drawn to it in a game. I wonder if bounty ships spawn at the same times in rings. Sometimes I'll farm 450k in 45 minutes from a few 'condas and some cobras.

- build a mining/cargo Hauler with maximum jump capability [completed]
- build an assassin Eagle with extreme maneuverability for short-range bounty-hunting [completed]
- build a mining/cargo Cobra with large cargo hold and two Class 2 mining lasers so I could make money faster
- build a Viper with proper firepower, FSD Interdictor, FSD Wake Scanner and Warrant Scanner as a dedicated hunter-killer ship
- refit my Hauler to be an explorer vessel
- make money, buy a 'conda and wreck sh*t

Here is my list... trying to rack up a bounty now.... wanted to do it against player but am finding it hard, lol. they keep running away before i can kill them!

find free eagle. sell sidewinder.
buy fuel scoop.
find a home system (high pop high tech imperial on the federation border)
make home system friendly
trade freagle for viper
explore sorounding systems
level up to lord rank with empire
buy a type 6
establish a rare trade route to Lave.
trade type 6 for asp. gear up asp for trading
gear up a second combat viper. keep one at home, one at Lave.
rack up a 1 million credit bounty in enemy space.
chart every star in a nebula.
chart a path to the center of the galaxy
solo a capital ship
explore the other side of the galaxy
hit triple elite

I've expanded my objective list a bit. Right now I'm trading with a Type-6 which profits around a million per hour, a bit faster than the rarity trade circuit I just tested. Next step is an Asp to replace my Cobra and my Hauler-explorer - it's gonna cost a hefty sum but Asp seems to be the ultimate do-all ship. Also I need a Type-7. It's got double the space as Type-6 thus doubled profitability. Then we'll see where it goes.

Also...

Ahh, the Fer-de-Lance ... looks like a Hauler on asteroids, if you'd ask me. Quite sexy, and very likely an attractive upgrade for anyone who would like to upgrade from a Viper, but thinks the Cobra is not specialised enough.

A ship of this class is also featured in the novel "Wanted" as the vehicle of choice of badass bounty hunter Ziva Eschel, and supposedly the best long-range interceptor ever built.

A good read for anyone who would like to know more about the background of the game's setting, by the way. Culturally as well as in terms of tech. It's a rather gritty book, though, suitable for the bladerunner'esque vibe I'm getting off the game - think Firefly without the humour.

I like how everyone is saying Elite is a better game then MWO, but doing it in MWO's forum. Are you guys TRYING to troll the devs here? Yes, things could be better or worse with MWO, but it is what it is, you don't have to pay a penny if you don't want in MWO, it was your choice, to that person saying "You don't have to spend $1000 in Elite". What if the game flops? What if the devs go bankrupt? Don't put all your eggs in one basket. If you don't like MWO, go elsewhere, but don't trash PGI's game in their own forum, have some freakin' honor and respect.

Beat me to it :D

So, what's the approx. size of FDL? If it's the size of Asp then I may delay my Asp purchase and but a Type-7 instead.
