Heh, maybe PGI won't get in any trouble after all. I turned off my adblock and tried refreshing sarna.net over and over again to try to get the MWO one to appear. Instead I got some ads for some League of Angels game that was using in game footage from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance with Free to Play slapped over the top of it. I guess copyright infringement only applies to the everyman uploading videos to Youtube and not these big corporations...

I haven't gotten any MWO ads in awhile and the browser game I play flashes 3 of them at a time to any link I go to.

Actually they would, it could take days for the images to disappear from the servers that's how these things work, on that note there is no way to fake the links in the OP.
If those images exist on that server then they where used as an ad on google ad sense at some point.

I even tried to see if I could make an ad preview with a preview image to get a google link image like the ones in the OP and you cannot.

So I got it to appear by going to sarna on a browser I barely use. It might not be wasting ads on people that they KNOW are already aware of MWO because you're logged in to mwomercs. YMMV

That sarna.net ad came up for me too. Interestingly enough it went straight to my profile page. I'm already logged in though, so... wtf?

The text ad I posted above took me to the landing pad page at least.

edit: Ah, when I opened into an incognito window it brought me to the register pilot's name window.

So, what's the deal with them? How do they profit from making these ads? Do companies outsource to them to generate traffic?

Anyway, following the conversation reminded me of something I saw the other day.
I was on a news site and an ad popped up for War Thunder. It was one of those flash ads, 3 tanks come driving along the box and a cross-hair pops up along with the words "DISTORY[sic] ENEMY TANKS". Now I don't know a lot but I do know destroy is spelled with an E.

Phase 2 is already motion, feigning to be discovered all the while using my alt accounts, Pyrrho and Canadian Attack Beaver to fuel the avalanche my ad campaign will surely cause.
