Only one I put DHS on was my 1E - though it was tempting for the other Energy heavy one
(the heat issues kept me from sticking around and making a target of myself)

Haven't played any of the others but the 1E since the Quirk pass - so I couldn't comment on them

Oh man first match with the Herocust; unskilled, stock loadout, and no modules I managed to get 238 damage with 5 kills and survived to the end of the match.

The Year of the Locust is upon us.

Didn't take giving my info away - he just send me the info for one of the disposable gift cards to buy the MC with
(Which can also take a fair amount of trust)

Problem is my main payment option is with karma koin and I can't give him the details unless he's in my country.
he has to be in my region for it to work.

@option to let him give me my account details:
Even though I consider myself quite an honest and trustful person I am (to him) a random stranger who can be looking into malicious activity and if I was him I wouldn't randomly give a stranger my details.

It's that random chance for someone to slander your name on the forum with 'me' saying stupid stuff or stealing my account and such.

Anyway I got the Mist Lynx to ugprade and skill up, Ice ferret to skill up a bit more, Centurion to upgrade and skill up, and griffin to buy a 3rd (the one with 4 E, 2 M, or maaaybe get Sparky) etc.

So I am in no rush to get the Pirates Bane. You locust pilots. How is that little fella doing? =)

I am thinking to buy it in a sale because I am obviously that cheap. (It does mean I do get more mechbays by 3-4 and that could be good for the long run.)

Yay lolcust dubbies! = D

Anyways, thought I might chirp in... I'd advise against that GRF-1S variant, since you get to put most of your firepower in that right arm, but that right arm is also the first thing that gets sheared off my Griffins no matter how scrupulous I am with my left-arm shielding. Also, you can't necessarily left-arm shield with it, because you have that missile rack on the left shoulder, which is a target, and people will aim for it and ruin your torso armour. It's a consideration, at least. The Sparky is probably nice because you can alternate shield arms to preserve them longer. That said, the 1S wasn't a pain to elite. I only kept the 1N in the end.

I found the griffin very hard to play with =l I got 2 of them so far.
I am also pissed that the only quirks ALL griffins got is for SRM's... the hell. All of them are missile boats for LRM's and not a single one got an LRM quirk ;~; meanwhile kintaro and hunchback is rolling about loling with there Machine gun lerms...

Anywho... I used to have a streak griffin but thinking off switching to SRM's... I want an lrm boat one for the 3E 3M one but can't think of a good build.

Actually, Griffins are apparently one of the best SRM brawlers in the game, and I've definitely had plenty of success myself, so I'm inclined to agree. Three SRM6, no artemis, three MLas, and the fastest XL engine you can fit to balance an appropriate amount of ammo. It's just such a mobile mech when you put a fast engine in it that I feels it's a bit of a waste to do anything else with the chassis. The GRF-3M can go four SRM4 or even four SRM6, and you can even play with artemis if you really want to (with my playstyle, I don't bother - I like to get in melee range, blow off a specific component, and disengage to find the next target. It never ends well if I start playing a poking game with it, gotta wait for an actual brawl.)

It does?
That's wierd... I remember with the Karma Koin sale thing people from the UK were buying it from US/AUS to redeem...
But there are other options, such as Paypalling it (just needs to give paypal address to receive it).

I understand completely, and my original comment did say it requires trust, and yes, it's not really for people you haven't dropped with for a while and got to know, to judge if it's 'safe'.

You could additionally minimise the risk by changing your password beforehand, then back (or simply changing your password after), but I totally get it.
That said, it's up to the other party, if they want to do that.

I'm still going with Paypal is best / safest. ;)

It's nice.

My only 'real' gripes with it are:
Not spead tweaked yet, which means I can't dodge incoming AC20 fire so easily... this is a problem that I'm working to rectify.
I can't put Ferro on it. I am one slot short of being able to have 4E, 2B, 1 slot of ammo, ECM, XL and 3 DHS + ferro.
This means I have around 5-6 points less armour than I'm happy with tbh. It only gives about .4T extra, which I'm not bothered about, but hey-ho.

Otherwise, pretty happy with it, no regrets about paying full price.
Been performing... OK, but that's because of no proficiencies yet, and I'm just going to go see how much MC it'd cost to just buy it out... then decide against it because it costs too much. ;)

Went up against who I think was one of the top 5 tourney Locusts tonight. We were winning 11-9, he went back to base and we stupidly followed him. PIcked us all apart, and he finished with like 7 kills, 700 dmg. Jesus..

In my experience thus far (tonight will be the first time I take it out since blowing some MC on speed tweaking it, though this is based on observation as well as play, so bear that in mind), it's not really any better or worse than a regular Locust.

The ECM makes you a little stealthier to sneak round, but you take a hit in fire power.
4E isn't bad, but you can't mount anything bigger or heavier than 4SPL / ML.
The 2B will always have to be either 2MGs or 1AC2 and little, if anything else.

On top of that, you're really too small to effectively hang with the rest of the group to provide cover, as ECM you'll be a priority target and hanging with the team, you'll be going slow enough to shoot. The team can't or won't provide enough cover.
We all know what that means.

Additionally, you can't practically take Ferro on it, which mitigates the entirety of the weight saved by stripping the arms of armour.
So we still only get 7T of space to play with.
Worse, we have to sacrifice all armour on the head as well to get that 7T, leaving us a few points lighter than even normal.
We can put Ferro on at the cost of 1 item. Be that an energy or ballistic weapon, or the ECM, but it's not really worth it for the 11pts of armour you gain here in return.

So on your own, you aren't really going to be performing excpetionally better than a regular Locust.
In my opinion, in that regard, it's remarkably well balanced against the other variants for a mech with ECM.

Where it shines I think, is in a pack with other lights, especially Locusts and Commandos that can keep pace, granting cover to them and supporting their slightly greater firepower, making for brutal stealth hit and run sweeps.

Not as good as the 3M. Still a lot of fun, and it's weirdly interesting to have ECM on it. I've been using it like a poor man's Seismic since I can tell if anyone using BAP is close by if it shuts off. So far, I've not witnessed that happen nearly as much as I expected though. Is BAP still rare to use? Am I still one of the exceptions for mounting it on non-missile mechs?

I dumped the MGs off it because two didn't feel like enough to be good, and am running 2 MPL 2SL atm. Might pull the ECM and upgrade the weapons a bit more, but...idk. I'm undecided about that as yet.

/edit: Ran several more matches with it, and still feel a bit undecided over the tonnage allotted to ECM. On the one hand, it seems to help the team a little bit sometimes, but on the other hand, a lot of the time the team is a bunch of team-killing d-bags and I almost feel safer knowing that I can put the enemy between me and them. I got TK'd once and badly team damaged twice more tonight.

What are your opinions? Sack the ECM to upgrade another SL to MPL, or keep it?

I'm definitely thinking the 3M is a better Locust since I don't have to feel guilty about going alone in it and depriving my team of ECM, plus those SPL buffs.

Also ran my 1V a bit tonight. MG's still suck, and a single laser of any sort is fairly meh-tacular. Had a good, non-team-kill-ey team for those matches though for some reason, so it turned out alright. I'll probably end up grinding out my extra module slot over the next few days for it even though I won't use it.

Interesting tidbit, I was just looking at my stats page (because everyone who pilots lights knows how encouraging that is) and realized that my locust 1e has my highest kill per match ratio. My damage #'s are horrible with it but for some reason when I shoot things they fall down :)

Got myself a PB last night because it looked cool and I love playing light mechs and I enjoyed it so much I got myself a 1E.

First game today I came out with this, all in all a great little mech in my opinion.
