Sigs already done.
Click on link for a 'full size' shot.

The band o' Locusts is just for here. ;)

Now I just need to get an XL and modules for each and every one of them... (Locusts)

It took the quirks to get me back into the pilot seat of my 3M. I've had the 3M mastered for some time now, but I'd only play with it during those masochistic moods. Post-Quirks.... I can't put her down! Well... the Pirates Bane that is.

My 3M build was 4ML and Tag. Kept the mech cool enough to harass and versatile for sighting. I tried the 4SPL thing but I found myself playing it as if it were my Huginn (my other love, I play it with 4MGs and 2-SRM4s and its like a rabid squirrel).

My PB though, I abandoned the 2MGs immediately. I don't know about the rest of you, but the muzzle flash would blind me. The canopy isn't exactly the best for visibility to begin with, the MGs did help any. I've opt'd for the 4ML w/ECM for PB. I too was tempted to yank it out for the extra tonnage and in light of BAP dominating ECM now. That was until I did something everyone says NOT to do. I put a DERP into an ECM mech.

It made all the difference in the world to this mech for me. Got BAP? Have fun! Cause ya still cant see me once I duck behind this rock or tree stump that stands twice as tall as I do. Its a game of "Now you see me, now you don't" and I love it!

Its great to finally be able to love the Locust for more then just it being a tabletop icon.

I'm loving the LCT-PB. I'm running XL190 4 Med Lasers with ECM and AMS (1/2 ton ammo). This mech has renewed my love of the Locust. Its still not mastered but out of all the LCT variants I can post the most highest scores with this one. Perhaps P2W if it wasn't a 20 tonner...

As far as underrated, the game where I got 6 kills was interesting because 4 of them happened in a row at the end. The other team was focusing my teammates and I was picking them off to make for a huge comeback.

Here are a few highlights from my evening:

If gifts was a thing. I would give money to all well deserving mechwarriors that I see.

(PS: I'm not rich. It's just I am comfortable with my purchases in game thus far (abused 50% off mechbays to get double my moneys worth) and I would love to help people out, even spending something like 5 dollars would make a big difference)

PGI just made a gift store... atm it's just packs BUT it will be expanded later on...

https://mwomercs.com/gifts

Sadly packs can't be purchased with karma coin Dx

The more I read this, the more I think I'm playing this with a completely different philosophy from most folks here. I painted my Locusts a brilliant neon green so that the enemy can see me from miles away, I frequently fight other lights and more often than not win by a significant margin, and believe that there should be an easier way to engage in zellbrigen duels. I believe that the fun of the game is the most important aspect of it, and that there is a significant amount to be had in forming a sort of persona to play as. I admit that I am a nerd, and welcome discussions of lore (at least pre-word of blake ;) ) and feel that lore should play a large role in the development and balancing of the game. I know the game isn't perfect in any way shape or form, yet I forgive it its flaws even as I hope for improvements. I have a certain degree of faith in PGI, in that I feel that they've managed to deliver a solid product on a fairly small budget and I suspect that their willingness to listen to the customer is only going to improve as both game and company age. This faith is reflected in the fact that I have finally begun to allocate budget toward purchases of the things they are selling, notably the peanut butter Locust and some of the coming resistance mechs.

I'd like to see many things for the future, but I think that the foremost thing I'd like to see is an improvement in terms of new player experience. I want to play this game with my RL friends, not just hardened veterans of countless battles that take the game more like an e-sport than an RPG, and that's pretty nearly impossible with the way group queue currently works. I'd also really like to see the coding done to allow MASC and higher maximum engine speeds. I have fond memories of a Fire Moth I experimented with in MW2 with nothing but a flamer, a big engine, and MASC that accidentally ran directly into the first enemy it encountered and exploded. I'd like to see melee weapons implemented in the future, as they were a significant part of Inner Sphere tactics. I'd like to see more game modes, particularly a non-team deathmatch-style free-for-all along Solaris lines, or perhaps from a more clan-like point of view, the Grand Melee used to determine the 32nd entrant to a Bloodname trial. For that matter, I'd very much like to see a duel mode with smaller arenas geared toward 1v1 combat at some point.

/rant
tl;dr: I'm silly, great game, hopefully more to come, and suggestions. Stay positive. B)

Why didn't you find rich friends sooner? There are people who purchased multiple Golden mechs and could already gift there full spare warhawk pack away. (I actually know some people who purchased all the golden mechs... still didn't get 1 warhawk pack [insert cry face that the forum doesn't have]

Anyway. I am kind of looking for someone to purchase the IS pack for me... As my generosity and money expands quite a bit. Problems come down when I can't use gift cards to get bloody packs. (and ironically I can't use a GIFT card to get the GIFT package...)

If I only knew who the rich people were I would know who to suck up to :D haha.

But back to locusts, I have the 3s and 1e which one should be #3? I am kind of leaning 3m because I like the 1e and they would be similar and the spl quirks look cool. But the. I argue with myself that if there are multiple options why not 3 different play styles.

Well if speed is life for the locust I had one problem during the challenge for the victor this weekend. Before I fired a shot someone hit me with LRMs. Leaving me with a red right arm and right torso, but also missing my right leg.

So I found a nice corner to back up into and waited, patiently. My instincts were correct a Shiny new Champion Victor stopped right in front of me and I used 5 SPL's to his rear side torso and boom something cooks off as he was turing. While waiting a bit more some other mechs just tromped on by, so I hit them as they were turning the corner being engaged by others. Next another victor walks on up and stops again with his back to me and looks around. So I had to hit him twice in the back to take out the engine. At the end of the match I had two kills, 6 assists with 339 damage.

Not bad for being legged and for how different the gameplay was this weekend a fitting way to get my 20th point for the challenge.

I too believe 5 SPL's is the way to go with the 3M. It's the most min-maxxed you can get with that chassis. You may miss some range not taking ML's but any time you can avoid having to hold a laser on target with a mech moving at Autobahn speeds go for it.

the SL/SPL boats just suck all around unless you get that lucky positioning.

Medium lasers at least have the range to let you hide and snipe from unsuspecting angles.

I feel like small pulses are Ultimate Hard Mode Engaged.

I need to start trying them out. =D

I am running 2 ml 4 sl on the 1e and I like it. Of course with the quirks the sl are close to the same range as mpl so they feel comfortable to me. I tried 4 spl on a tdk and it was interesting but you definitely needed to work for good positioning or you were just useless. But I love trying new stuff so I will probably do some mix and match until I find what I like. :)

I swear by the 5SPL 3M with BAP and 190XL. I roll radar dep, target lock extension, and SPL cooldown/range. Between the inherent quirk bonuses and the module bonuses I shoot the equivalent of an AC 20 every couple of seconds and it goes a lot further than I'm used to since I learned to Locust on this build long before I could afford modules, quirks came out, and BAP was buffed. The thing is a beast.

This. I'm using target info gather instead of lock extension for even faster targeting data. My KDR over the challenge weekend was just a bit shy of 4 on this thing! On a Locust!! Over 2.5 overrall after 92 matches and rising steadily. Winrates at 1.14 too and rising. My 3S is managing 1.44 W/L, but the sample size on that isn't too big yet, only 44 matches.

SPL are easy mode. I actually have a really hard time using Mediums on most lights, the fire rate and duration feels so... blegh. Way easier to snapshoot with SPL, and more forgiving of a miss. Plus it's way easier to evade in close; the further away you are, the further you have to move to get out of a firing arc. (also, putting them between you and their team helps.)
