SPL are easy mode. I actually have a really hard time using Mediums on most lights, the fire rate and duration feels so... blegh. Way easier to snapshoot with SPL, and more forgiving of a miss. Plus it's way easier to evade in close; the further away you are, the further you have to move to get out of a firing arc. (also, putting them between you and their team helps.)
Alas, our respective playstyles rear their ugly differences. =]

I always found medium lasers more effective then small lasers for there extra range and damage =l

I just had the most enjoyable match I've ever played in this game. It was also the saddest match. Long story incoming, sorry for wall of text.

Locust 3S on Mining Collective Skirmish. 4x SRM2 only.

I started by almost being one-shot by a friendly trial Dire Wolf at spawn who decided to test to make sure his Alpha Strike button worked right as I was passing him. He overheated and I proceeded to the dark edge of the map. Got spotted by two mechs and I lured them into the dark away from the teamfight. Next thing I know a Jenner and an Ice Ferret pop up and I start chasing them because they seem afraid of me. Eventually I run out of ammo with 2 kills and over 500dmg. Distractify time!

I find friendlies and try to hop in front of the enemy they're engaged with. Doesn't work, friendly dies. So I keep toying with the enemy Catapault and Stalker so they can't move on to help kill my friendly Nova. Eventually I give up and decide to help my Nova friend. Turns out he's in a trial and he Alpha'd. He's been shutdown the entire time and the enemies haven't even realised he's alive because OOH LOOK A LOCUST COOKIE. Then the Nova dies from heat. Just me left, 0 ammo.

I run circles around an Orion for a while and then wander off and type in chat "whoever wants the last kill, I'll give it to you" ... no response. "tell me who wants it or I'll keep taunting you." ... no response.

So I spend the rest of the match following the Orion around as he looks for me and running into his legs to damage him. "Hey Orion, better check your leg armour... I think it's breaking." No response, he's completely oblivious. I keep ramming him. Eventually I give up and run circles around him and he doesn't even shoot. I run away and find the Stalker and just shut down in front of his face. He LRMs me at 50m. Then backs up... and LRMs me again at 90m. I power on ... he remembers he has lasers and shoots... and misses... I power off. Finally he managed to kill me.

A couple of very patient fellows on my team watched this whole event without any complaining.

Today, I am thankful for locusts and the joy they bring to the MWO world. And for Iraqiwalker starting this thread to share that joy.

Cheers all! Have a happy Thanksgiving and if you are outside the U.S. have a great Thursday and a wonderful 2x XP weekend :)

I must admit I've become a full convert. MWO has never been this fun, it's like a completely different game playing a Locust.

I am thankful for the fun that we've managed to have with this game, and these little harbingers of doom, and for all of you, for trying these mechs, and making this thread grow so large, and be so friendly.

I searched somewhat extensively, but the search function has failed me yet again. =[ Any leads?

The wind in your hair as your going 169 kph (Elited)
The agility of a humming bird
The sting of a bee (4ML)
The skills of a ninja (ECM and counter ecm)
The hearing of a owl (Seismic sensors)
I fall over as soon as anyone tickles me with a feather = PRICELESS :D

Anybody got a great Pirate's Bane config they want to share before I just load it up with SPLs? Thanks!

I honestly found that as much as I love SPLs, SLs were ultimately better (once elited).
There's just not the room for it sadly.

Shrink it down to 1/2T MG ammo, drop a DHS and all armour from the head + arms, and you free up 2T to bump the SLs up to SPLs.

I've debated dropping a DHS to up it to 2 ML or 2SPL +2SL, for a bit of a mixed kick though.

Stick with the SLs on that. Too much of a sacrifice to mount SPLs (now if only SPLs got their heat reduced, then I'd go for it)

It has been an interesting road since I started reading this thread. And, I honestly think I've come a long way learning from everyone here.
The Loci unlock some inner part of me that loves the Havoc. And, I am getting much deadlier in this chassis to boot.

Locust is THE most fun mech to play. It looks great, has great animations, is a complete wrecking ball when you use it right. Also, people still underestimate it's power, so you can go mostly ignored for much of a match if you are crafty.

LCT-1E with 6 medium lasers is a great build.

The locust is the second best feeling mechs to play with behind my beloved Ravens. Not only in how it handles but just the feeling of being cramend into the cockpit that has a window that barely lets you see. How it jumps around as you go flat out. I remember using my cadet money to buy the little guys when the were first released as my starting mechs. So much frustration and rage but for some reason I kept coming back to play them and them alone. I finally sold them after a while to make room for some new mechs that I could learn the game better with. But now that their is room in the garage and thanks to this thread I know what my new mechs will be.

The quirks have had a HUGE effect on this mech bringing it up from the gutter to a very competent level. I've even included a 5x Small Pulse locust in my provisional CW drop deck.

One match I killed two lights who were fighting me at the same time. I killed the second guy just after he legged me. I then killed another mech who came at me thinking a legged locust was a free kill. Survived the match, even got some more shots on people while I limped around the map. Never give up.
