Locust: Sons of the Inner Sphere, I am THE LOCUST.

Davion RVN-3L: But a true Light Mech is 35 tons!

Locust: Yes, I've heard. Kills mechs by the hundreds, and if it were here, it'd consume the Clansmen with fireballs from its cockpit, and PPCs from its arse. I am THE LOCUST. And I see a whole army of my fellow light mechs here in defiance of power creep. You have come to fight as free mechs, and free mechs you are. What would you do without freedom? Will you fight?

Davion RVN-3L: Fight? Against that? (points at Jenner IIC) No, we will run; and we will live.

Locust: Aye. Fight, and you may die. Run, and you'll live. At least for a while. And rusting in your hangars, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that, for once chance; just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may destroy us, but they will never take our freedom!!

....Now I feel the urge to paint my locust in Scottish tartan red and green.

The Locust really didn't need the nerf. This is more the case of pilots not knowing how to deal with light mechs, than the mechs being very good.

Le Sigh ... having to adapt to a new weapons meta is one thing, but changing the fundamentals of how mechs even handle? What the crap. That's been a consistent feature since I started playing in 2013, and probably earlier.

I gave up on MWO a long, long time ago. Locust was the only thing that I'd boot the game up for anymore, because it was fun. And I figured it was far enough removed from mainstream meta that PGI would leave well enough alone. Guess not. Was the battle of Tukayyid getting dominated by marauding bands of locusts? Really?

Only thing I aspired to grind anymore was to fully outfit my full stable of locusts. After a game with the 1E I just felt disgust, and I lack desire to adapt to Yet Another Meta for the 20th time.

Fortunately for urbanmechs, an AC20 is a time-honoured tradition! Break out the SHS because you won't have enough tonnage for lasers (that, and you won't live long enough to use them!)

We Light pilots just aren´t vocal or important enough... Over in GD people still complain about the OP lights, not realizing that any decent pilot can scare a light away and a good one can kill it...

Oh i just read in the patch notes we will get the Wolfhound Urban Mech and Crab for C-Bills today.
Hm, as I haven´t bought resistance or Origins that leaves me with the possibility to try those new shinies...

What´s your guys opinion on those? (Yes I´m asking here ´cause for me the people frequenting this thread are those that know most about lights)
My observations so far:
Wolfhound: Seems rather tanky, humanoid laser vomit somewhat similar to the Firestarter (which is still the light mech with my most matches played I think) (Had to check, well the stats seem to be a bit of, but according to them its pretty even between those two chasis with the adder being third. BUT if i combine archieved and current stats it turns out my most played variant of all times in the light department still is the TDK Posted Image )

Urbie: Well it´s... uh Urbie ^^

Crab: Seems really tanky like a small stalker on steroids. But again laser vomit.

I love my wolfhounds. They are very tanky, but also similar to Firestarters. I think you trade jj for better structure quirks and the WLF-1 is the fastest 35 tonner in game (until later today when the Jenner IIC drops). If you liked he Firestarters you will like Wolfhounds, but You would have to decide whether they are too similar to each other to be worth it.

Urbanmech is a no brainer, it is endearing for the same reason locusts are. There is a reason that the Urbanmech badges show up so often in his thread ;)

Can't help you with crabs though sorry :(

can someone make a Locust unit ? lol

like a motorcycle club i.e The Black Rebel Locust Club etc etc
just hoon around in locusts with complete disregard to meta

a light mech enthusiast unit (no arctic cheaters allowed thou Posted Image )
There's few enough Light Pilots that excluding those with Cheetah's seems arbitray. xD

I own all the lights myself. :P

The Jenner-IICs are here!

-turns around-

LOCUSTS! WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?

-chirping-

GIVE THEM NOTHING, BUT TAKE FROM THEM EVERYTHING!

Already got hit by one of these nasty little buggers already. Keep your distance, guys.

Once I work past my cheapness and fork out for a CXL255 I'll be going this route: JR7-IIC

6SRM6 seems.. impractical though, with heat and spread, wouldn't 6SRM4 be better? JR7-IIC

With a XL255 in the mech, you aren't going to be doing BnZ. Too slow for that. You'd be playing the JR7-IIC SRM6x6 more like an escorting medium, keeping lights and mediums away from your assaults, or taking potshots at enemy assaults when they're busy shooting your assaults.

It'd be like playing a SplatFox. Urban ambush, lots and lots of close-quarters combat at sub-100m ranges. At that sort of distance, spread doesn't matter.

Also, light JJs are better to be used all-or-nothing. Two of them will just cause the JR7-IIC to hover in place, with no directional control. Either get a load of them, or none at all. Try this one. JR7-IIC 6 SRM4

Or if you want to really try being THE SRM bomber urban terror, the uber SRM poptart. All missiles in arm for better firing angles, and loads of jumpjets to jump over enemies and above buildings. Yes, it travels slow, and yes, it probably handles more like a SRM cicada, but that's not the point. JR7-IIC SRM Poptart

Man I thought I was a masochist for playing Locusts. but lord, the Urbies.. haha. After a few Urbie games I blew a bunch of c bills and bought three Cheetos! They are alright so far. The ECM bubble reduction is pretty noticeable actually, and it gives ECM lights an excuse to not provide cover because your allies are just gonna step on your fragile leg armor over and over again lol.

I was looking at the Wolfhounds out of curiosity, and do I see that one of the variants can potentially go just a hair faster (in terms of raw speed) than a Locust? wtf? Of course I don't know how feasible that would even be, but it is kinda odd.

is this like a faster, tankier, more sluggish 3M? I mean the 3M already feels sluggish to me now, but this thing's got 15 more tons

*edit, actually screw all that, I cannot read and got my 5's and 6's mixed up

Wolfhounds!

So, in order to not feel like they underperform next to my FS9, I stick with STD 210 engines in my hounds to make them little tiny tanky mediums. A bit close range of course, but it works for me.

The 1v is pretty good now, much better than the erll build imo.

Just bought a 1v and using the lpl build only on basic skills (from previously owning one) but only one game tonight and got only 318 damage. Not bad i suppose for a single weapon. But one hunchback got shot must of been a good five times in rear ctr torso by me and he refused to die. Got kill most damage dealt though as some lurms rained on him.

Yeah, I like it better than the 1 erll build, but it isn't the 1e by any means. The DPS is pretty crazy but that means staying with a target longer since the alpha is so low. It is good for drawing enemy mechs out of their death ball if you get behind them and start shooting them in the back. You can usually get two or three to chase you.
