Not this again. There's a differenve between realistic and authentical. Sry, if I used the wrong word. Even in a science-fiktion or fantasy world authenticity is a good thing imo to give you a more solid feeling, when you play the game.
And pls don't start the 3PV debate again. It's not unrealistic since they used a little camera-drone flying behind your mech which transmits the visual data directly to your neuro-helmet. It's really not hard to imagine. And if you're still pissed off because of 3PV, why are you still here? I think it's kind of a self torture to stay here all that long, complaining about the same things over months. You have a big problem, sir.

You have your points. I admit that some things which came up with cockpit glass are disturbing and unrealistic (this time I mean unrealistic ^^). Light shouldn't shine through the back of your mech.
But why are you thinking it'll stay as it is? PGI is still working on it. The game is in an continuous improvement process. New features come, they have some issues, issues will be resolved. We can argue about the current state of the game and if such features should've already been in the game since beta. Well, we all know the developing went on very slow, but at least NOW you see a constant movement in development with great ideas finding their way in the game. And cockpit glass is one of those ideas. Don't try to make me believe you don't like the idea of a finally seeable cockpit glass! But it's the implementation which lacks of completion. Just be patient and let PGI listen to your criticism.

Would it not have been better from a PR standpoint to have tested the glass more before implementing another flawed component into the game? I mean don't they have enough to fix with out piling on? The decisions just leave you scratching your head and doubting the continued viability of each patch especially when they are suggesting the staff is stretched thin. How necessary was the glass for the program to move forward? These issue they have not addressed nor answered and that just feeds the speculating beast that is trying to devour this game. Russ maybe a great gamer maybe even a good guy but as far as a project manager goes I hope he has a second skill set to fall back on. He keeps planting these mine fields and walking into them.

Do you think PGI would consider adding a breath-fog mechanic so that in the colder environments the cockpit window would fog up a little with every breath the pilot takes?

Stop giving them ideas, they can come up with plenty of terrible ideas on their own without the help...

Actually there may be a way for you to test that based on your location's climes.

If it's freezing outside, but not snowing or raining, move your computer system outside. It shouldn't take too long before it's cold enough to see how 'neat' that kind of feature would be.

Tarzilman, Your not reading all my posts. If they take the time to "fix" glass, that's resources I would prefer be spent on MANY features that I still do not have. Features that the community wants developed. You are sorely mistaken if you believe there is ANY form of cockpit glass I would like to see, not a fixed one, not this current horrible mess. I want pickable maps because I the playing in night games, or with rain, snow smoke ect. There is now level of "hay now you can't see {Scrap}, but at least your frame rate is down" that I EVER want to see. I understand that real fights would not always occur in bad conditions, but currently they are the MAJORITY of games I get to play. Now add "every game also has less vision, witch works unrealistically " Oh and I will throw in a free migraine just for your troubles. No I don't want them to fix glass. I would prefer a toggle, or remove this bad idea. Then spend time developing features I would like to see.
I want the game to survive, I want it to get better, If there is a big problem with the game, and they (PGI) do not listen, those people will leave. No one can take this headache $%#@ for long. I want MORE detail. That's immersive to ME.

Yeah, just like my car. On top of the Ready button wait, we could have an additional 5 min wait whilst we all sit there with our blowers on full blast, repeatedly wiping the glass with a rag. You could also have a Rain-X treatment or heated windscreen module for 25000gxp and 12 million C-Bills to get you in game quicker and trash the enemy before they can even see you coming.

If they ad a breath fog machine I want a defroster button installed to clear the glass and while they are at it I would like to request an auto starter so I can warm up the mech before I have to jump in. Seat warmers would be nice but that may be a little high end for now but I am willing to wait those out. This is in addition to the windshield wipers and window wash reservoir I asked to have put into my Orion. The crew chief swears the parts would be in by Feb 4th. He better be right or he is going to find out just how hot a ppc shot can get. He has his fingers and legs crossed.

I'll admit the glass seems a bit much at times and could use a bit of adjustment. But no NO absolutely NO for a toggle.
There will be a big advantage to have it off vs on. All the min/maxing "competitive" cheesers who strip off everything to gain an advantage are going to have even more of an advantage.

I call BS on your inflexible stance on a non-critical gaming feature that hasn't even existed for two weeks.

I've looked War Khan, I've not found a single post from you prior to cockpit glass coming out requesting it, saying it had to be in the game for balance, or to mitigate the "min/maxing" crowd.

I mean come on, get some perspective man... If there's a switch for it, and you feel you're being beaten because of it, you can just as easily turn it off.

No one else should have to suffer because of anyone else's personal aesthetic or effete elitism.

Hey commander clueless you must have missed the part where I said it could be dialed back a bit because it's a bit much now. How would you feel if there was a toggle for screenshake and smoke? I think it's you that needs to get some perspective. There is no reason it can't be adjusted to be a compromise for both camps.

When you say "ABSOLUTELY NO" to something that's existed for less than the two week patch cycle, that makes YOUR perspective flawed.

"Dialed back" doesn't quite eliminate all the deleterious affects of cockpit glass.

Cockpit glass has nothing to do with balancing a poptart, or used for terrain effect like smoke. It did not exist before two weeks ago, it DOES NOT HAVE to be in the game now.

It's not necessary for anything other than SOME people will think it adds to the 'ambiance' of the game, but that's about all of the value it adds.

What's more, you don't like the obscuring affect of smoke? There's thermal and night vision mode to eliminate it. You don't like the cockpit shake of jumping, don't jump.

So why shouldn't cockpit glass, which is NOT necessary, never has been, come with an 'all or nothing' toggle too?

War Kahnt you missed the part where the devs said it was immersion, they didn't say it was to balance and nerf.
Therefore there should be a toggle, so those that it does not "immerse" can turn it off.

It seemed to me to be map and mech dependent, (also how drunk I am).
I will disco out of river city every time I am in my jag. (but I have not got that map in days.....)

The options are full of toggles, you want an even playing field?

Make everyone play on max graphics, if fps make your system drag that's your problem, not mine.
Set a fixed resolution like 1600x1080, (which will suck.)
Lock the arms, no toggle for that, sorry if that effects your play style, not mine.
There should be no mc mechs that are better then the cb ones.
There should be no camouflage paint schemes (particularly mc only )
Everyone should get 10 free artillery strikes a day, balance out those that play with a credit card.
And if the game detects Ventrilo or Teamspeak they should be banned for a week to teach them to play fair.

Is this the balance you are looking for?

toggle it. everyone will be happy. youlike it - you keep it on. you don't like it...off. you think that those with it off have an advantage..turn it off yourself...if you don't want too and keep arguing that you dont want a toggle because it will give an advantage to others who dont want the glass..then you are a douche.

Yeah, we might get to have playable framerates again and not have to gulp migraine pills like candy? I suppose those are "advantages."

Some people might call that a good thing...

The issue is optics. As someone with glasses who is nearsighted, my eyes often simply *ignore* close up things like dust on the glasses or dirt on the windshield.

This is a nifty thing, but really is just degraded, uncorrectable vision. Actual dirt on the windshield does not act that way.

Ultimately, a thought crosses my mind, something I think EVERYONE on ALL sides of this equation can maybe get behind, here it goes:

Absolutely STILL provide a cockpit glass toggle and on/off switch.

PLUS

Two new purchasable pilot modules:
Enhanced Vision Module - The enhanced vision module utilizes the latest in nuerohelmet feeds adding real time visual processing to clear the pilot's vision of any vision disruptions caused by the clear plaz armor cockpit windows that might obstruct his view.

GXP required to activate: 2500
CBill Price: 250,000 per module

Beneficial Effect: Turns off cockpit glass.

Detrimental Effect: If the pilot is hit with a PPC/ERPPC EMP affects cause .5 second of complete static vision and cause the full effect of cockpit glass to be seen for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Advanced Enhanced Vision Module - Combines the EVM with multiple live camera feeds providing the pilot with a cockpitless view.

GXP required to activate: 50,000
CBill price per module: 20,000,000

If the pilot is hit with a PPC/ERPPC EMP affects cause .5 second of complete static vision and the cockpit AND cockpit glass to be seen for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

I mean, this would give everyone, everything.

You'd still have your cockpit, it would be seen regularly, you'd still have cockpit glass (but it would be limited durations to avoid inducing physical issues), it would be seen regularly, and we'd even have the cockpitless view, available to anyone who wanted to earn it.

Thoughts?

Or 1000 c-bills to spray my windshield with the same stuff they make blublockers out of.
