Also stop saying it makes the game look 'worse'. Worse? In what way? In that it reflects you're piloting a giant, war scarred battle mech? If anything, without the graphical effects the game looks more bland and verging on generic. The film grain makes sense considering you're wearing a neurohelmet; did you guys forget that?
I applaud PGI for taking the time to put in features like this, which so many other developers pass over as 'unnecessary'.

Also why would a brand new mech come with a badly damaged windscreen, is the mech factory based on one of those exoplanets where it hails metal and they are lacking warehouse space so they store all the new mechs outside?

Quite, actually. That was the absolutely barrier to me returning so I'll have to watch the patch notes. The only outright ***** I really have left on the list is never wanting to accidentally click buy.

It looks very clear and nice.
Now if they could just add a setting to turn off the useless monitors and save some heat too that would be great!

From comparing my own images with some of the ones uploaded, looks like the two main issues are low/med textures, low res and low/med shaders in concert. The Shaders add a flat specular shine that is distracting, the texture that creates the actual cracks on the screen are pixelated and the low res just amplifies the issue.
I would suggest trying to up the texture res first and see if you can see better with thinner cracks on the screen.
