Removing the cockpit/glass obviously gives you an advantage or thered be no reason to do it in the first place. So anyone claiming it doesnt give you an advantage is an {Dezgra}.

But the real issue is whether or not its considered cheating. PGI has said its not cheating, so its not cheating. You may not agree with it, but ultimately its PGI that decides the rules. Simple as that.

So for the time being it seems modifying your .cfg file is allowed.

How could pgi modify this view so that their is some kind of disadvantage to balance it out? just wondering if people had some ideas.

Nothing has to be moderated as it is legal to do. Citation in this very thread. And PGI trumps IGP so nothing needs fixing.

Kyles' statement confirms it is ok to modify the user.cfg file.

Destined's comment then is to qualify not to use "particular settings" in that file as it is considered an unfair advantage.

One is a subset of the other, where they are commenting on specific settings in the file.

Hence I hope they simply remove them from the user.cfg file in an upcoming patch to avoid this confusion.

Again, in this very thread he was specifically asked if removing the cockpit was ok and the answer to that specific question was yes. But feel free to continue to be wrong.

Who's position has 0 to do with the game design.

You may as well be siding with the Pope on this issue.

As for my reason that it's a cheat... I also frankly consider using MACRO's a cheat also... as it's an external program doing the imput of the button command and not yourself.

I also side with orginizations like MLG that states that use of Turbo controllers is cheating. [which is what a macro does essentially]

You are explicitly modifying a file, to change an implimented feature that was put on everyone, meaning the feature was intended to be something that impacts everyone. by removing this, you are not playing the game as intended... thus cheating.

This line of logic is NOT hard to follow.

Sooo... changing one line of code so I can use Scroll wheel in this game is a cheat also by your line of logic?

Tell me... is key Binding cheating?

Is lowering your Post Processing so the SUn Glare is not as horrible.....is that cheating? (you can do that in the menu or add one line in the cfg file)..

Everytime you change a setting in your options.. you are essentially changing a line of code in the cfg file...

There are 1000s of people that have changed their Field of View in this game... you just stated that they are all cheaters.

That is wrong... and I humbly disagree with your statement. However I do agree it is borderline cheating/advantage... but then why does PGI Force what you would call a "Feature" onto everyone? The single biggest Flaw PGI has implemented is what is has not... a REAL working Options menu.. especially for a PC game (I"ve seen Console games with way better option choices)

I can no longer play this game because I get horrible Eye Strain with the new Cockpit glass... and I'm not the only one.. so I googled how to to remove it and found Dimento's youtube video... and I posted it first here in the forums (sorry but I think the discussion needed to be addressed).

While I do think its cheating in a sense that not everyone knows how to do it.... but if everyone has the knowledge and know how... then they can make a choice for themselves...

It is cheating????... Technically but a grey area... the cfg file is changeable... so in that sense no...

but it does give an advantage..... meanwhile people like me and 100s like us are unable to enjoy the game anymore...

I have to break rules or regulations in the game so not to throw up on my moniter.... I"ve never recieved motion sickness in my life ( I can sleep on roller coasters) but the cockpit glass did something to my eyes and brain that give me REAL life pain..

So I googled an answer.... just like anyone else...

If the cockpit glass is not fixed (just make it normal no speckles glass?) and Feb 4th Patch comes and removes this Dimento Feature... then I cannot physically play this game anymore...

Sept 3rd, 2013 Patch was when PGI made the cfg file not work against Film Grain

If the Feb 4th, 2014 Patch removes this feature(outsite cockpit glass) from the cfg file (no cockpit) then I am no longer physically able to play this game

I personally BELIEVE those 2 "Features" as you call them are causing the health risks associated with playing this game

Everyone is accusing this dude of cheating and hacking... but what he has done is finally forced PGI to listen and perhaps actually do something about their so called "Features" that are hindering their players

HERE you GO... this is how you reduce SUN GLARE IN MWO....

Am I cheating?

But if you want to reduce Sun Glare.... put your POST PROCESSING to LOW..

Go to Options.. and in Advanced Video Settings... slide the POST PROCESSING to LOW

Here are some quick screen caps I took of the difference..

Either allow everyone to do it or allow no one to do it. Those are pretty much the two options.

You know that this will be subject to review... right?

Look at it this way - if it's deemed that removing the cockpit glass is an advantage, then it will be punishable. They are also investigating this particular method of removing it. However, they will eventually offer the choice for Users to remove the cockpit glass via in-game menus... BUT we don't know if that ability will be extended to both private and public matches, or just private matches...

SO, it's safe to assume that we should hold onto our butts before concluding what's "allowed" or not. I would just suggest avoiding modifying the user.cfg file to remove cockpit glass, since it's kind of a cheap way to get a clearer field of view. If/when they allow it in the future, then that's when you might wanna start removing it.

Real, Real, Real Real Real Real Real Real Translation...ah I give up.

Anyways, the realism argument doesn't work very well with Battletech. This is the IP where shooting an Atlas in the hand can destroy his entire arm. It's the IP where giant robots are so tall for their mass, that the Atlas in MWO could actually float on water how low its density is! (At least, I've heard rumors about it). This is the IP where a Gauss Rifle, powered by massive electromagnets at enormous levels of energy, generates nearly no heat at all. This is the IP where, well, we use giant robots instead of tanks and other ground vehicles (which have more concentrated armor, plus a lower profile, and can be mass produced easier). This is the IP where most of the Autocannon calibers available (2/5/10/20) are dramatically heavier than their real-life equivalents and with a lot less range. This is the IP where 800 meters is considered "long range" whereas in real life your mech would be instagibbed from miles away by modern technology. The list goes on.

So essentially what you are saying is this is "Science FICTION". Oh the humanity! I need to go pet my space hamsterz now.

Does he offer the download to everyone? Or does he keep it to himself?

Uh oh, Egomane is reading this.

Kyles statement was made after Destined's comment, Kyle also stated that yes it was ok to use this setting.

No, it's allowed. It will be reviewed and possibly be changed but it seems clear that PGI says it is allowed. What IGP says has little significance as even they concede they have nothing to do with development of the game. Cheap is in the eye of the beholder. I wouldn't worry about using it while as a PGI rep has said it's allowed.

PGI please just take the specific details out of the user.cfg file. This will avoid the confusion of allowing visual benefits with the modification of these settings.

BULLCRAP

I was actually looking forward to the cockpit glass.... I remember playing X-Wing and Tie Fighter games back in the 90s and your cockpit glass would crack when taking massive damage... that is awesome... very immersive... and I like the cockpits themselves... wish the monitors would work but oh well

What is not awesome is Film Grain Plus Minutia specks of {Scrap} that zoom in and bob up and down as your mech moves with the advanced Zoom module causing me eye strain and eventually stomach problems...

Go count the number of forums and threads that people are posting about these HEALTH Problems...

I"m not against getting rid of the GLASS.... just FIX it so it does not cause me health issues....

Add to that a tarded version of Sun Glare that is beyond broken (face away from the SUn = more glare? Glare in caves?)

And you people wonder why there are hacks/cheats/ file configurations in the game? Its to be able to PLAY the game without pain

No Id rather talk to real people on my TS server we had 35 on the other night and not one of them hated it. But Forum lurkers who seem to love to Trollheim Complain cry complain. It's not even fracking glass. ITs thick arse see through armor. I love hearing "Health Issues" why is it my "Older" Father who gets seizures from light flashes can play games like this with no problem. Not to be mean but if you have serious health issues like that you shouldn't even be playing. In fact how do they even watch tv? I'm sorry I don't get it. All the lazer fire and muzzle flashes is what would set off things not bloody "Space glass". They are working on some of the lighting issues but I like the glass and want to keep it the way it is.

This sort of thing makes me not want to play this game anymore. People don't want there to be any kind of a challenge. I don't know why I am emotionally invested in this game, PGI, in their pursuit to make everyone happy is going to end up making no one happy.

To be fair, signifigant is a bit hyperbolic.

And it's not like this is some kind of special program, or hack. It's one line in a part of the game that is meant to be editted.

Instead of beatching about it, try it yourselves. As noted the cl_fov = ?? entry is legal. Try it. You will quickly find that although you remove the cockpit spines from view, that far forward make your side views also non-existent. For those chassis with side glass, doing this is a huge drawback from the useful FOV they provide.

Don't judge, try it. The file in question is easily found and editable in Notepad ffs. Talk about it NOT being rocket science for once. LOL!

Don't want to try it, I like the cockpits as they are and they make the game more enjoyable for me. Same with the glass and I don't find it noticeable or intrusive.

Removing the cockpit simply allows for some visionary aspects of the field of view to be readily evident. Even if it is just the removal of the cockpit bars as a visual barrier. This before considering any further beneficial advantage from using a fish bowl lens effect for awareness.

Now you sound like a cry baby.

I don't care to do it, but the effect is not worth all the cavetching.

The original Seismic Module was more of a hack than this ever was.
