Hello,
This CVAR will be blocked in the next patch. This alteration does give an unfair advantage to a player which is against our Code of Conduct, however it's not really possible to track so the best we can do is fix it in the next patch, Feb 4th.

Blocking the CVAR removes it. There's literally no way to 'tone it down', you can't make it only half render near objects.

Do you mean they're toning down the glass effect? If so I wouldn't be surprised, it is a little overbearing on some mechs.

That seems to be what PGI mentioned in a twitter feed.

Hmmm, I see post from only 4 hours ago that says the following:

The newest answer Ive gotten says

Hello,

The current policy is what is written in that post:

User.cfg modifications are fine as long as they don't result in unfair gameplay advantage.

The cockpit removal one is currently under review and more details will come soon. Whether it's a gameplay advantage or not is up for debate I suppose, however it is definitely not the intended/desired way to play the game - a lot of work went into designing those cockpits after all.

Technically speaking, tampering with the game files in ANY shape or form is against the Terms of Use really, however as it is our content we reserve the right to make exceptions at our discretion.

So the answer seems to be, at least 4 hours ago, that they're still looking into it.

I get that it wasn't PGI's vision of how we'd be playing, and at any time PGI can disable the variable that removes the cockpit (or reset how far away the "near" value is that the variable that disable cockpit relies on, so that it only 'touches' where the glass is placed so that ONLY the glass is removed with the variable enabled), or may play around in their game and change their minds about it completely because their maps look so damn good...

Who knows?

The first indication of what they've decided to do may be arriving 2/4.

But, the GM was sure right about one thing, whether or not its an advantage has stirred up quite the debate.

Next, Anyone and everyone can turn their cockpits off if they so choose, allowing everyone to maintain that 'similar' screen. In another thread, someone's already posted how it's done.

I posted it in this thread because I feel that if one person can use it then everyone should be able to use it if they so desire.until such time that the dev team decides to lock down this command line and provide a toggle for the glass or asks me to edit my post I will leave it up there. http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__3108714

my only issue with the glass is the speckle effect that is more apparent when you zoom in and some of the half assed lighting effects that they have tried to implement. its annoying as hell! like really when I'm looking through a scope on a rifle i don't see the little specs of dust on the lens. my position on the cockpit removal is i feel it's ok if you are suffering from very low fps but want to remain in 1st person view. when i tried it out I my self saw an average of about a 20%fps increase. and I have a pretty good machine. I however really enjoy the immersion of the cockpit and can deal with the fps loss.

my question to the community is how can pgi adjust this view if they decide to allow us to keep it so that it's balanced and fair.

I think that maybe they should automatically zoom you in 1x to adjust for the fov gains.

Who's position has 0 to do with the game design.

You may as well be siding with the Pope on this issue.

As for my reason that it's a cheat... I also frankly consider using MACRO's a cheat also... as it's an external program doing the imput of the button command and not yourself.

I also side with orginizations like MLG that states that use of Turbo controllers is cheating. [which is what a macro does essentially]

You are explicitly modifying a file, to change an implimented feature that was put on everyone, meaning the feature was intended to be something that impacts everyone. by removing this, you are not playing the game as intended... thus cheating.

This line of logic is NOT hard to follow.

So your saying that if they added a red flashing light to the cockpit that Caused Epileptic Seizures for whatever reason and left it in, that using the user.cfg file to remove it so said seizures did not happen to those affected is cheating?

Your line of thought is sick and twisted CP Glass causes some PHYSICAL PAIN. Removing the entire cockpit is the only way we can play the game and it does not give us any significant advantage.

Until PGI does do something to eliminate the PHYSICAL PAIN some of us get (slider, toggle whatever) I will change my FOV to eliminate the pain. It is LEGAL AND ALLOWED BY PGI your opinion on the matter does not come into the discussion at all. PGI has stated that it is all right to do this so please QFT.

Buts thats the problem... PGI either takes too long to correct or never fixes the problem ever.
That is the MAntra of PGI.... They have great ideas... just horrible implementation.

The whole reason this(Outside Cockpit Cvar) was done in the first place really was because of how horrible the Cockpit Glass was implemented. It causes eye strain and discomfort (besides frames per second issues) to some players.

I do not hate the idea of Cockpit Glass... I just wish PGI would not halfassed it... BETA test it in the Beta Servers More.. and refined it before releasing what is a broken game mechanic and possible health hazard to the community. It just proves the game is still in BETA...

I do like the immersion of the Cockpit glass... I do not want it gone... I just want it fixed.

I did not mind the Glare or Green tint.. even though it was distracting...its when I"m zoomed in with the specs of {Scrap} all over my cockpit screen bouncing up and down when I get eye strain and motion sickness (never happened to me before in any other video game).

If not fixed by Feb 4th... I can no longer play the game\

Wasn't sure if it was worth reading anymore of this thread but this post made me think, since the inclusion of cockpit glass my frame rate dropped from around a nice 40-55 at high, very high settings depending on how much boom was going on and how busy things were.

Since the effect has been added i've had to drop all my settings but 2 down to medium to get between 35-50 fps in games.

Coupled to this, I do have to say, that the last couple of days, it is causing eye strain, its fine in brightly lit area's but in shaded places or dark area's you have to really look hard and i' now having to reduce my game time by half or it gets painful.

This does have a knock on effect, sure I can still play but

Is it as much fun with the glass,

No

Does it bring anything to the game, i.e. does it make me feel like I'm a pilot in a big metal killing machine,

Not in the slightest

Is my reduced time in the game, because of eye strain likely to cause me to stop buying premium time.

Yes it will.

I'm happy to pay if I'm going to be able to play 2-3 hours day, but it i'm restricted to only being able to only play one hour a day without discomfort its just not worth me paying for it.

I"m not the only person having eye strain or pain..

FIX the COCKPIT Glass... or remove it until its 100 percent complete and fixed THEN bring it back...

There appears to be two discussions going on in this thread...

One is about the cockpit glass effect. Which is supposedly going to be toned down in the Feb 4th patch.

The other, and more important discussion, is the removal of the cockpit by adding a line to the User.cfg file.

These two issues are mingling in this thread and causing some confusion.

In my opinion, PGI should block the cockpit removal, but I'm not going to argue about it. We'll see what they decide after reviewing it.

Honestly if they remove the ability to remove the cockpit, but provide a slider AND toggle for cockpit glass, I'll probably still play. I've played 2 years with the cockpit in place, never found it debilitating, and the extra 5fps performance loss doesn't hurt me personally THAT much.

However, if I can't turn off cockpit glass completely, and have no other 'legal' means of doing so, I'll probably have to stop playing. Self-inducing migraines is NOT something I will do voluntarily.

I'm hoping for a toggle for the glass effect too. I am, however, willing to reserve judgement and evaluate the glass effect again after the "toning down" that is reportedly on the way.

The removal of the entire cockpit really feels like an exploit to me, and I will be surprised if PGI (after the ongoing review) allows it.

Just my opinion.

Ultimately, a thought crosses my mind, something I think EVERYONE on ALL sides of this equation can maybe get behind, here it goes:

Absolutely STILL provide a cockpit glass toggle and on/off switch.

PLUS

Two new purchasable pilot modules:
Enhanced Vision Module - The enhanced vision module utilizes the latest in nuerohelmet feeds adding real time visual processing to clear the pilot's vision of any vision disruptions caused by the clear plaz armor cockpit windows that might obstruct his view.

GXP required to activate: 2500
CBill Price: 250,000 per module

Beneficial Effect: Turns off cockpit glass.

Detrimental Effect: If the pilot is hit with a PPC/ERPPC EMP affects cause .5 second of complete static vision and cause the full effect of cockpit glass to be seen for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Advanced Enhanced Vision Module - Combines the EVM with multiple live camera feeds providing the pilot with a cockpitless view.

GXP required to activate: 50,000
CBill price per module: 20,000,000

If the pilot is hit with a PPC/ERPPC EMP affects cause .5 second of complete static vision and the cockpit AND cockpit glass to be seen for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

I mean, this would give everyone, everything.

You'd still have your cockpit, it would be seen regularly, you'd still have cockpit glass, it would be seen regularly (but it would be limited durations to avoid inducing physical issues), and we'd even have the cockpitless view, available to anyone who wanted to earn it.

Thoughts?

i know i allready said my piece but i thought of this last night and can't let it go... so here goes:

If you want 180 vision, no cockpit and no cockpit glass you don't need this work-around becuase there is allready an in game mechanic in place that provides that, it's called: 3pv :D

3pv sucks sweaty B&%$ and completely loses the 1st person perspective though. IMHO the best would be to either drastically town down the glass or toggle it.

which begs the question, did they implement this "reduce cockpit visibility" feature in 1PV just to force more 3PV?
