Nobody uses them, ever, anymore.

PGI, please just admit your change ruined the weapon and undo it, so we can have a bit more weapon diversity again please?

I still eat plenty of gauss rounds. Your experience is not everyone's.

Perhaps low ELO players are still sporting them.

In the hundred to perhaps thousands of games I played since the change was made, I've rarely seen any gauss rifles in use, nor been hit by them, nor witness teammates using them. It's to the point where if I see someone sporting a gauss rifile, I am genuinely shocked.

Holy {Scrap}. Your UAV must be super advanced to pick out all 23 players on both sides of the team and read their weapons load out for those thousands of games. :)

I likely must have a low ELO since I carry a gauss rifle on my Highlander (because) and a fair number of matches see and sometimes caught a few.

But I'm a lowbie so defer to your experience. ;)

... or I pay attention, actually look at what hit me after the match is over in the summary page and even, shock of all shocks, stick around and watch how a lot of matches end, so I can very clearly see the loadouts my teammates were packing.

wow, so you cracked the system and know your Elo score, eh sparky?
Willing to bet mine is higher, and I still use Gauss just fine.

BTW,
http://en.wikipedia....o_rating_system

Since you seem obsessed with proper grammar and punctuation, "Elo" is not in all capital letters, as it's not an acronym. It's a name. Shall we continue?

Elo e-peen waving aside, are you honestly telling me you haven't seen a drastic drop in gauss rifle usage in game? Aside from the very occasional Highlander, as I said, in hundreds of games I rarely ever see them in game. I literally haven't seen a gauss Ilya in months, previously one of the more common builds you would see. I have however seen a massive rise in AC5 usage, seemingly taking it's place.

You may notice I never once said I couldn't use one, I do however find them much less useful now.

Of course there are less. They are no longer the Ezmode answer to every situation they once were. There usage dropped immediately after the charge mechanic was introduced. That was expected and even a desired part of the nerf (even if the nerf mechanic itself was rather questionable).

But if anything, I have seen an increase of Gauss use over the last month, most commonly Gauss-Jagers, but also Highlanders and Victors. And quite a few Champion Dragons, which truly shockingly, were using their Gauss effectively, leading me to believe it was not noobs.

It wasn't this patch, but last patch they quieted down the sound even more so you can not even hear it charge above the noise of your walking mechs. That really threw me when i trotted out my guasscat.

I wish they would make up thier minds. Having to re-figure out how to use weapons every couple of patches is getting old..

I see Gauss plenty, and am consistently paired with known players of high skill. Either this means I'm lower Elo and they are there to balance me out, or there are a few mid-high Elo players on when I play so we get close matches. Either way, I still see lots of good players who get high kills and assists carrying Gauss.

And it's pretty obvious why; Good players can overcome a .75 second charging time mechanic.

Seriously, it's not hard.

I agree with both of your observations, Bishop and Serapth. Yes, gauss use dropped dramatically immediately following the nerf -- though Seraph, I believe you are exaggerating it. However, as Bishop said, use seems to have been picking up again in the last 4 to 6 weeks. I think many of us were sort of waiting to see if maybe they would undo the nerf so we could have our E-Z-Killz back again, but it looks like it isn't happening, so some of us are starting to (perhaps reluctantly, at first) go back to trying them again, deciding it's time to get used to the new reality.

That's what I've done now, and I have to say, once you get used to it it really isn't too hard. They increased the velocity significantly when they added the charging mechanism, and I've found that really does counter the difficulty of charging the shot. It takes away the ability to just hold the fire button down and shoot at maximum DPS, but the increased speed makes it into what it was intended to be in the first place: a sniping weapon for very intentional, well aimed shots, like a sniper would do. Before, the gauss rifle was like an AC-15 with some quirks, like the fact that the gun explodes but the ammo doesn't.

It is, in my opinion, more fun now, which I'd like to remind you is the point of playing this game. Just get over the fact that you have to learn it and it isn't easy. Easy is less fun than challenging.

LOVE the siggy.

Still waiting for the grammatical "geniui" (plural of genius?) to enter a cartography shop to order multitudinous map books, aka "ATLASES", and request 5 "Atlai", only to be met with a blank stare.

Should have been on the PPC. Whatever. Noone cares anymore. They wont give us the numbers, so we'll never have a valid argument. So it's working as intended, which you just need to deal with. And just because I have a bad feeling about this:

Hi Mike.

Elo more like Elow.

Or Elol?

I'm pretty decent, and I still see gauss rifles.

Every other thread about balance: "ballistics are OP and dominate the current meta!!!"

This thread: "Please oh please de-nerf the gauss so that the meta gets even more ballistic heavy."

Make up your mind, people. Sorry that one weapon is harder to use. Its better for the game this way, in my humble opinion.

I'v got a question about how I'v seen gauss used by some better streamers, and when using G+PPC they always seem to fire them exactly at the same time even when jumpsniping, leading me to beleave that there is a script macro out there somewhere that once pressed it pumps up and keeps the gauss loaded and releases once the ppc grupe is presed, otherwise it lets the charge fizzle and release the group after the max hold period.

Other than the inability to take snapshots it works much like it used to work before the charge change.

Can anyone confirm such a macro?

Gauss? Ridiculous? PPCs, slow and they overheat like crazy, lasers? You need, like 20 to make some damage. LRMs? They make piloting look like a job.

REAL mechwarriors, and by REAL I mean la creme de la creme, use this.

Slingshot? As in jumpjet into the enemy mech off a ledge?

Also I died from a gauss once. But I do agree that I tend to die more often from ac20's then gauss's. I think it's just because people iz dah unskilledz.
