Gaming Mouse? Suggestions?

Now I'm sure there are lots of people out there that will be buying the razor stuff ..or similar.
But I'm forking out about $380 for an upgrade on my pc to just play this game well so I won't be paying for a flight stick combo with a screen.
But I think my old Joystick is gonna be too clunky and my mouse only has 3 buttons.
So ... what to do ... I have heard of 'Gaming mice'
Can anyone give me some advice on what actually makes a gaming mouse?
dpi
buttons
sensor type? (laser/blue light/infrared etc
And as always price is an issue.
Cheers
Rik
P.S. Gaming mouse ... brings to mind some highly trained white mice ... gladiator style

I currently use the Logitech G700, and I love it.
My best mate uses the Logitech G500 now and swears by it after using Razer mice for years.
If you want a ton of buttons, you could get the Logitech G600, but it won't be released until the end of the month.

+1 for the Naga. Razer products get a lot of flak for being of a low build quality, but their mice have been top notch in my experience. The Naga is one of the products I've bought that have truly change the way I play- I use it in most games, and I'd struggle without it. I was actually worried that they'd stop making it and I'd be like a junkie gone cold turkey, but Logitech have now announced an equivalent in their range, so I'm pleased.

You forgot to consider the price aspect.
The G700 costs about help of what my upgrade is going to cost.
What makes those mice so good?
p.s. love the gif

I don't have much money to spend.
We are talking $100 TOPS ... preferably closer to $50
I only have so many fingers ... so 13 buttons seems like a waste. What controls accuracy? I like the idea of being able to snipe so fine control is important to me.
Also it needs to have smooth and quick motion too.
What controls this on a mouse?

ideally you should get a mouse that has laser and optical tracking, but if you only want one, make sure to pair a laser mouse with a textured surface or it won't track well; pair an optical mouse with a patterned surface. neither will work on clear glass.
other than that, i've been more than happy with a generic wireless 5 button doohickey i bought from Frys electronics. i like it better than the wired 5 button logitech i used to use. good weight, small size, long battery life (several months on a charge). if you need buttons that's what the keyboard is for. you almost never find a situation where, between your mouse and kb, you'll run out of buttons. you don't need to blow a ton of money on a gaming mouse; if you're on a budget (and it sounds like you are) all you need is a mouse that has a scroll wheel, 5ish buttons, and works reliably. i bought mine for like $25 i believe. I'll splurge on a rock solid KB and other equipment, but i feel a fancy gaming mouse is just money wasted.
really, i think the more important investment is for a good gaming mousepad. it should allow fluid movement while not being too floaty, and has a surface your mouse can track reliably. i haven't checked the current options, but that's only because i've been completely happy with my oversized Everglide pad; smooth yet with enough texture to stop the mouse from sliding around like a hockey puck. a friend of mine loves that floatiness but it bugs the **** out of me.

accuracy is just down to individual talent. you can mitigate that somewhat with slower mouse speed, but that sacrifices your ability to turn quickly in an emergency. there are mice that let you adjust DPI on the fly, but i found that in the time it takes you to do that you're probably dead anyway.
as i said before, tracking technology has matured to the point where even cheap mice track reliably, so smooth and quick control isn't a function of mouse quality anymore. that's why i recommended investing in a quality mousepad instead. that will help your control better than 17 buttons.

Logitech mice are usually a good compromise on price.
