If it was genuinely a good game then it doesn't matter who the 'gg' comes from. By good game I mean it was competitive, dramatic or if one sided the losers at least put up a good fight and did not just run all over like individual headless chickens.

the best part is poptarts that have more tonnage think they achieved something when they win and they ofc say gg. If the match is one sided i will never say gg cause obviously it wasnt.

The only time i will say gg if the game is 12-10 range.

too much epeen all round lol.

alot of people seem to think close scores equate to gg. well i say, why cant we have a good game even if the scores weren't close?

say you have a 15min match and the first 12mins was plays and counter plays all while everyone is exchanging fire and what not. then in the last 3mins the ice is broken and all hell breaks lose and one team snow balls the other because of a minor counter play.
the score looks bad but the majority of the match was intense team work and positioning. thats a bloody GG mate.

This is because King, when my team wins by 10 or more I type gg in team chat, where if you type it in general chat the other team takes it as a needling jibe.

if its only a matter of 1 or 2 mechs difference than a gg to all is acceptable.

Edit: and yes I was needling the Dockers but they deserve it. They are (bleep) !

A threadnaught in the making all over people arguing about saying "GG" after a match. There's a few that have posted in this thread that need to step back and think about that lol

GG all

I've rarely seen "GG" used in snark. Sometimes "GG close" will be used that way, but usually just "GG" itself seems genuine. If the match really does go terribly for one side, more pointed comments usually come up such as: thanking the matchmaker for leaving 1 team with 1 assault vs. 5, or grumbling about an excess of some type of weapon that was decisive (such as "I think that match needed more LRM's" or something.)

I've seen plenty of games that end in scores something like 12 vs. 5 that really were good games since the steamroll effect only happened at the very end - most of the match was something like 8 vs. 7 or similar. When a battered team can regroup and focus fire down opponents that are still in disarray, kills on mangled mechs can quickly add up and end the game even if the fight was overall fun.

Anyway, I honestly don't think the MWO community is full of that much sarcastic trolling when it comes to stuff like "GG."

Often heard from players who write GG after every game:

"GG"
"Good job team"
"WP"
"Thanks for playing guys."

Often heard from players who complain about GG:

To own team: "You guys all ***** suck!"
"That was not a gg at all"
"LRMs and tryhards every where"
"Meta *********************"
"**** ***** *** ****** * ** @_@******"

Nuff said. ;)

As I see it, all that is required is a few secs to think "how would the losing team possibly take what I say?" into account then exercise some decorum. Then of course have enough empathy to actually care(bit hard for some I see).
Say "gg guys" to your own team but keep quiet to enemy team. That simple bit of restraint removes said issue. You don't ever need to talk to enemy team. Saying "gg" to a team you just pasted isn't the best thing you can do. Exercising decorum is. Congratulate YOUR team but leave other team alone.

I never say it, because I understand some people can get incensed by it (I do, sometimes) so I have a bit of understanding and respect and so don't run the risk of rubbing a losing team's face in it.

A "GG" is a good, close match where it could go either way.Just because you had fun stomping a weaker team, does not mean they had fun-so keep it to team chat. Show a bit of class.

It all boils down to empathy. If your made aware that a symbol, gesture or phrase is being used to harm another anyone with empathy will reconsider using it knowing it may be misinterpreted. We can easily go too far with that as in Political Correctness so its up to the individual to think it through. If you respect no one past yourself you will not even bother to consider it.

Here there is no personal communication where a look, nod or gesture can reenforce our intended meaning. It should be the key to our understanding.

Ah, this ol' discussion. Has been on this board before. I've always been of the opinion that I don't robotically type gg every time wether it was really a good game or not. I think it loses its meaning if I do that. Then I think I shouldn't say it unless someone on the losing team says it first, but usually I'm too lazy to remember or check who was on which team so I assume if it's someone dead, it counts as losing team. If it was very obviously a stomp and I was on the winning side, I just say "gj" to my own team.

I was actually going to say the same thing, but decided against it since I'd already given my two cents on this thread. Just wanted you to know you're not alone in your thinking.

odd... I say GG if I've had a good game. It's pretty simple really

maybe I had a good running battle with a couple of enemies and died... and my team was stomped... good running battle = fun ergo 'gg'.

maybe I had an awesome one on one fight with a heavier mech and I won my a whisker... and my team got stomped... 'GG'.

GG goes to the people I interacted with who caused me to have a good game... i don't care if they love me or hate me, still grateful they where able to give me a 'gg'.

Not a single player in the history of MWO has said gg at the end of a match to be smug. There are plenty of ways to be smug after a victory, but gg is not one of them. gg is usually sincere. When gg is not sincere it is polite. Never smug.

I stand corrected. I said my first smug gg yesterday. It immediately followed a comment to the effect "You (bleep) are probably going to call this a gg, (bleeping) (bleep) team."

Exception: those of us mature enough to actually respect the other team.

I pray some day you will find an area of your life to be less paranoid in.

so let me get this straight im paranoid by saying i dont ever need to see a opposing teams chat?

it is my thinking you should be castrated to prevent you from polluting the gene pool any farther.

tell me a logical reason why i would ever need to see what your posting if your on an opposing team.

the simple answer is thier is none so thus i dont need to see it. thier for it becomes a tool for the trolls. which is what this whole post is about.

and since you obviously have little intellect ill type this next bit in your native language

"one day wen yer all growd up. and you can understand growd up stuff youll look back and fugure ot what were all sayin"

He's referring to the entire premise that "GG" has some ulterior and nefarious motive other than just being a good sport and saying "GG". If you fall into that category then yes, he's calling you a bit paranoid. If you don't, then he's not
