Let me know how it goes if you do - several reviewers I (mostly

(with most of the negatives being the comparisons to WoW
of course
)
You guys mean The Old Republic? The comparisons to WoW are pretty warranted. I never got into WoW, but apparently some of the skill trees are identical between the two games, and it's basically a "Holy Trinity/Healer Required" type of game. Especially if you wanted to do any of the group content. They did do a very good job of making it possible to solo any of the storylines though, while still keeping them challenging enough to be interesting.
One thing I did not like though was that no matter how powerful you were, it was effectively impossible to solo even the weakest World Boss because of the way they designed the engagements. Same for the "group" missions (not related to a story, repeatable, grind for epic gear, yadda yadda yadda). I used to play a bunch of City of Heroes/Villains, and while the power creep in that game was ludicrous it was fun to be able to solo missions designed for teams of 8. Or, with certain classes, giant monsters.
It was fun for a bit though, now that it's free maybe I should re-install just to dink around with the space ships again. When I played it there were not really a ton of space missions, but I hear that's been expanded a few times. I wouldn't say they go for realism or anything, and unless they changed it, they were path based maps in space with obstacles to dodge, not a free roam environment. Still, quite fun and did a good job of giving you the pace/feel of the Star Wars version of space combat.
Jedi Knight line was the most epic and fun, the smuggler has better lines and his story is good for a while, but after the first act it went south. Dark side characters were kinda fun, but I get bored with the classic MMO gameplay after a while and I couldn't bring myself to be enough of a racist to play the Sith line properly.
The environments are just dead sexy though. It was worth the play through just for the art alone.
All in all, it was pretty good and got a lot more bad press than it deserved. Funny how that happens when making games based on IPs that have rabid fan bases. Though I have to admit, had a friend not given it to me as a birthday gift, I might not have tried it out - but only because I'm not really that into MMO in the WoW mold.
