I would take Banshee or a Mackie. but I don't think PGI ever gave a hint that the Mackie would make an appearance afaik.

I'd love it to be the King Crab, but I don't think they'll release a double AC Inner Sphere mech until at least the Clans come, and maybe not then. Besides, the King Crab would have a radically different profile than the current mechs (being really squat). It might be the Banshee (although I don't know how they can make the sunglasses look as cool as the original). It's got a great hardpoint mix and fills a good slot. I don't know what the Cyclops would add (as a jumpy assault) that the Victor and the Highlander don't already cover, unless it's a jumpy assault with ECM (sign me up!).

Is it just me, am I the only one that is hanging on the cliff for the new assault.
I think I will cry if its a Banshee. I know some of y'all love them, but can we honestly say it won't quickly become another awesome?

I hope its not a cyclops either, we don't need another mini atlas, unless there is a variant with ecm.

So what does that leave us?
Zeus?
Bleh.

Here's hoping that its a scary ballistic assault or the superurbs, the imp.

Thoughts?

Properly made, it would be OK, as the ShadowHawk demonstrates that tall is not an issue, as long as the arms are bulky, and the STs not too massive. The Banshee SHOULD follow that pattern as it is taller than the Atlas, and not as bulky. But seeing how Alex turned the Summoner into one of the 7 Dwarves, and how closely the Timberwolf followed his very nice "Alpha Strike" cover design, I fear if we do get 95 tons of Ugly tomorrow, it will be based off his Banshee design from the same SourceBook Cover, which TBH, is every bit as fugly as the Timberwolf was awesome.

Yeah, previous MW didn't seem to have the hitbox handicaps overall that the MWO mechanics do.

I'm thinking a 90 ton, 48 kph, pot bellied mech with obscenely tall missile racks in the side torsos, that happens to need an XL just to do that 48 kph...... is going to be a skosh underwelming in actual game play. I hope I am wrong.....but.... not gonna hold my breath. :P

I'm curious and wish it was tomorrow, we know its not an 85 toner.

I don't want to see a 'ballistic' mech though

Cyclops, Banshee or Zeus will do me fine, the rest to can keep in storage until Terra Therma freezes over.

Thug would be a good candidate as well. But all 3 you list would be good mechs since they are many of the other games as well.

You're gonna be crying for a ballistic mech come Clan mechs.
I can promise you that.
The dual UAC20 direwolves are going to be nightmare fuel the likes we have yet to see.

Yea, indeed we will. I bet that's when the Mauler comes out though. If Alex is doing it now, I'd expect to see it in 3-4 months.

I wouldn't mind a Devastator myself. 100 tons, w dual gauss rifles and lasers, would be good against clan mechs.

Ditto, it's a great Davion mech !! Though I think the 3rd variant is out of our time line.

Dual Ultras & Dual AC/2s? Triple AC/5 & PPCs? (no pop-tarting though). Quad AC/2s and tons of heat sinks? That Left Torso is gonna be one massive target.

Yeah, but the mech has huge arms to protect the torso. No arm mounted guns on Banshees if I recall correctly.

Actually, as a hero mech, maybe this lore friendly one is a little too good:
  • BNC-5S Vandergriff A custom BNC-5S piloted by Solaris VII duelist Victor Vandergriff during the Solaris riots. The weapon loadout is similar to a standard BNC-5S. Two ER PPCs are the main armaments, one mounted in the left arm and the other in the right torso. A LB-10X sits in the left torso. The two medium lasers of the original are retained in the left arm. The right arm contains a small SRM-4. Finally, four jump jets are added for increased mobility. BV (2.0) = 1,853[26]

Sure but every Mech is vulnerable that way.
