It also seems to be apparent that when games have a disproportional amount of Spiders and Firestarters that simply reducing the amount of lights (3) will not solve the problem of their invulnerability.
I would hope the topic remains on the "enjoyment and playability" rather than a the statistical analysis.

Who you play with definitely affects the first 2 minutes and if you go 2-3 mechs down and your spread out .... your toast.
Nothing PGI can do to fix stupid.

On the contrary....stupid comes from lack of experience. Lack of experience comes from being new to the game. Being new to the game gives you an artificially inflated Elo because the Developers decided to throw you to the sharks. When you get thrown to the sharks, the experienced players get mad and call you names. When you get called names, you run to your bathroom to cry in the dark.
Don't run to the bathroom and cry in the dark. Fix the matchmaker.

Just to tweak your nose a bit, Joe....
Remember, your personal Elo is based on the whole win/loss thing. When you are consistently put into matches that get rolled like this, your Elo suffers.
When your Elo suffers, you get depressed. When you get depressed, you go hang gliding. When you go hang gliding, the power gets knocked out. When the power gets knocked out, riots for food happen. When riots for food happen, your father gets punched over a can of soup.
Don't let you father get punched over a can of soup. Fix the matchmaker.
Or you end up faking your own death haha...I love those commercials.

This has been a problem since they introduced Elo.
I've been in numerous discussions about why Elo (a system that rates players on their win/loss record instead of individual skill) is or is not appropriate for a team-based game like MWO. Many of those arguments are a moot point now; the evidence is in and has been in for a long time — it's not working a large portion of the player base. Some accept the matchmaker's warts, but many are being driven away by them.
Luckily, PGI knows this and has plans to rectify the situation with the upcoming launch module and future plans to revise how the game rates individual player skill (instead basing it solely on wins, it will take other factor in consideration to get a bigger picture).

I really don't care what matchmaker is used as long as it is not used in Community Warfare. Having the composition of my planetary defense force dictated by a "balancing" matchmaker is nothing short of silly.
And because MM-related topics seem to endlessly pop up, I really need to ask: Are the majority of players here only interested in arena-styles matches? Because if that is so, then Community Warfare will end up being the biggest waste of PGI's time. We might as well just have the arena-style game that MWO is right now.

You want them to code a stupidity Elo system?
Isn't that what we already have with the artificially inflated Elos of the new players?

@ Mystere:
I agree that I really hope the MM system has nothing to do with CW but...I also hope they keep it around for random drops that don't effect the outcome of anything. Call it the "Mech Simulator" or something...use it to try out your builds against opponents that shoot back or something."
A lot of the time, people just want to drop once or twice (like, say, before they trundle off to the 9-5) and don't want to deal with anything heavy. Or...some people won't want the outcome of a planet's ownership to be effected by their ineptitude at any given point. It's worth keeping around. Hell...maybe it should be a requirement to successfully make it through your 25 "Cadet Matches" before being allowed to join in CW...there's an idea...

First get in a trial spider then find the best hiding spot and then power down but make sure to type in team chat that you are waiting to ambush them.
The pre made Easter egg ambush tactic?

One of my concerns is that the number of people who will be playing in random drops and private matches will far outnumber those playing within CW. If my concern is realized, then CW will just be colossal waste of PGI's time. And if CW proves to be far more popular, then spending more work on the MM will just be colossal waste of PGI's time.

Based on PGI's history, how can CW possibly be released as a broken, half-assed piece of crap that has nothing to do with what everyone envisions? I'm sure it'll be just fine. Yep. Just fine.

First, it has been my XP for the last...since january.... Weds. and Thurs. night at primetime and a little later......OMFG, the teams I get put on. They dont read, maybe dont read english I dont know, they cant see the radar, or act like it, they cant tell when something is shooting them. Tonight I spectated a team after getting abandoned in my Ilya by my teams 3 fast mediums and 2 lights(because an atlas and a LRM stalker were behind the next hill...yes, just the two of them made 5 mechs run away without firing a shot) a Stalker 5M, trying to use his MPL at 450M against a centurian strafing his team mates. He started taking fire to his left, on his arm and ST. He didnt turn. Then on his radar, a red triangle apears, almost on top of him(turns out it was maybe 30M to his left) doesnt turn. Aparently doesnt see it. It was, of all things, a 3c Cicada with an AC2 and a SL. It just sat there and shot this guy, until his ST gave out. THEN, the stalker pilot turns(wrong way first) and then sees the cicada, and then turns away from him to run away. Yes, Stalker armed with MPL didnt notice a 40 ton mech armed with DPS weapons shooting him for long enough to core his side, and then ran away from said mech, and got cored in the back by it.
Tonight I was in one match with people that had half a clue, out of 14 matches(might have been 15) I tried to play my Ilya 3 times, and then said F it, tried my Jester once(the one good match) and was trying to get my 2XP on my ravens. I should have quit playing much earlier then I did.
Its funny, Monday and Tuesday have been very good for a long while. Weekends are a crap shoot mostly dependant on my ISP and ping if I can actually enjoy the game or not moreso then my teams. But wed/thurs, I might just come up with something else to do these two nights, it is one thing to play bad and lose, it is another to have the most illogical, BAD decisions being made by your team, the worst tactical behaviors in every match, to the point that no matter what you say or do, you will eventually be ganged up on and blown to bits. And it isnt even really like its the whole team, there is always that one or two other guys that get whats going on, set up defensive points when it is called for, call for flanks or join on them, etc. But these are also the guys that end up getting killed first, because the enemy notices that these are the guys actually shooting back and hurting them. It is easier to notice these guys, when the rest of the team is tripping over each other to "be in the back" behind whatever rock or building they think they can snipe through or whatever.
And once the 2 or three normal guys are gone, holy stomp, the rest of the double digit dmg team mates, I cant even spectate sometimes, it is so bad, I feel I may become a worse player just by being exposed to it.
Maybe PGI should put an option in, with default checked as "on" for a warning buzzer, really loud one, to go off when you take dmg, and maybe a loud, like really loud beep when something is on the radar. I would shut them off as I do not need the noise, but obviously some players need strobe lights and train whistles to alert them of their surroundings.
Sorry for rant, string of over ten losses due to OMFG BADZ makes me nerd rage.

I'm all for a skill curve, but maybe PGI should offer up smaller matches for people who want them. I'm curious to see how many people would prefer the small fights (8 on 8? 4 on 4?).
