I was also in a light mostly, went back and forth between Jenner and Cicada with about 80% of my top scoring matches done in the Jenner. Placed 9th. LRM's are ridiculous right now, if not for their killing capacity(had more kills stolen from me by spamming lrm'ers that can't even see the target I've been working on for 2 minutes) and sheer annoyance, it has also made this a game full of campers. How many have sat on a map like River city and watched the clock run out cuz neither team wants to close the gap. Everyone just sits around trying to find someone to spam their lurms on. It has become horribly boring to play and the only action a light pilot gets is to rush in alone(cuz my team of lrm'ers isn't coming to back me up) and have to fight half the opposing team basically by yourself. I really like this game and don't want to see it continue to be a campfest. Hope something changes. thats just my opinion.

In Assault mode River city does get the worst of this because as the balance in a match changes the turrets have an overriding influence on the match.
Boaters are almost totally ammo based so don't want to consume it on turrets which are easier to kill with ML's (with no tourny benefit) and late in the game have glowing ct's from the inevitable lrm vs lrm mayhem and can't risk the turrets.
It's not so much they don't want to close the gap - they're support mechs, often slow and without ECM cover not design for direct assault operations.

Deliberately not selecting targets (or communicating enemy locations) was the standout reason for the vast majority of my losses. I might have regularily outperformed the team (tag ftw) but could have done so much more if peeps targetted as normal. It was almost as effective as enemy ECM at hobbling their own team.
Some may suggest it guarantees brawlers a chance at a kill. Maybe they're that good but more often it leads to a loss and a bucket load of missed kills/assists for the whole team - no just those supporting front-line troops.

Well done on 9th btw. Do you think the old LRM stats but with new NARC would have changed your position or just bumped all top-tier scores higher?

To be honest, I've only been playing since January and I still think I am improving and still figuring stuff out, so I really don't know how the old stats would have changed anybody's score. I am just commenting on my current observations of the game state.
Don't get me wrong though, I lock targets constantly. I am always looking for a "good" lock. A slow mover that is a distance from me. If I lock someone I am circling, I will most definitely eat friendly lrm's, which doesn't serve the lrm'er any good either racking up team damage.
And also, I am talking about greedy, selfish tournament play here. Not everyday, nice "let's all work together and get this win" play.
This tourney rewards the single player. Kills worth the most, then assists, then damage, then the win. Even though you can't get those kills/assists without a decent team, it still rewards very greedy gameplay. I don't play like that for the most part, even carry a tag on several builds. But that isn't what we were trying for this weekend. I like the switch up to be honest and welcome more of it in the future.

***Even though it was greedy play weekend, I still played my role. I rushed out front and marked/locked targets, or reported locations in chat to my team. I was still a team player, even though my intentions were selfish. **

I had a good run on Saturday playing most of the evening, ended up in 1st position for a time but good things don't always last. Could only play a few games Sunday but ended up in 7th by the end so very happy to be in the top 10 :)

Some great games though, mostly used my Banshee 3E with 3 AC 5 and 2 ER LL - loads of fun! (Honorable mention to my Stalker 5S, Banshee 3C and my good old Atlas DDC) and unlocked a few achievements as well so bonus.

I'm going to guess some JJs, a pair of PPCs, a pair of AC/5s with 70tons or more...a close second was LRMs...a close 3rd was probably a Light laserboat.

This is what I saw the top players running, usually a 3D, VTR, HGN or BLR/STK missile boat.

Indeed. At it makes sense in order to rule out any kind of competition manipulation, as we can sum up manually everyone's score. If the rules state the first 50 are considered, then all of them should be made public.

I'd love to see that list as well! Petition, petition! :)

Since this was my first tournament this was a lesson that I learned about mid way through after switching from my Super Chicken 3L into something a little heavier. I dropped with a few of the tournament leaders and when I was dead I would sit in their cockpits and watch them play. Once I learned to steal earn kills I was able to put in a couple of 5 kill matches.

Very well done to everyone who won some MC! It was a lot of fun and I didn't even have to stay glued to my comp for 72hrs at a time. Hopefully the next tournament is along the same lines (Faction) but more team oriented play!!!

Well, Russ mentioned in the NGNG podcast that the next Event would be Lances, and a 12v12 after that, we're just waiting for the Launch Module for that to become a reality. Though I'm dreading the 12v12, as you know that'll be pure META.

This is the entire weekend. I just can't figure this out. PGI doesn't even need events like this to see that the upper level players are zeroing in on like, 3 builds, but this kind of stuff confirms it. Banshees did very well too because they are basically 3D's with enough armor to stand and fight.

It was basically a miserable death march of 12-0 matches where one team brought more direct fire. Or, if you dropped lucky, you were on the superior team and competing for kills with a premade IM 4-pack or trip DDC's and a highlander...

I played a whole whack of mechs.
JM:
Dual AC20
4 MG, 2LL, 2ML
6 MG, 2 LL

Banshee 3e(This one was pretty badarse I wasn't even Elite yet!)
2xac2, 2xUAC5, 1-3xMLs
I also leveled the other 2 Banshee's in this timeframe, the 3s was ok and the 3m I used GXP to level it because I refused to play it it was so bad compared to the other 2.

Victor 3b
pop tart

HGN 733c
2xppc and ac10 etc (too damn slow and clunky)

Stalker (don't think this helped at all)
2x5 lrm, 2x15lrm and I think 1 lrm 20
2 ML
1 tag

Spider:
4MG+LL

Fire...which I love now, the alpha is great along with crazy JJ ability, I never played this until near the very end, my mistake.
2MG
6ML

Better than I expected, considering that I don't run any special builds just to win at a tourney like this.
I -did- only use classic Steiner mechs, though.

Made 97 piloting mediums almost exclusively. Ran Catapults a couple times for a break, never did well enough for those scores to be used.

Greetings all,

I hope that PGI studies the results and telemetry from this tournament and starts checking the builds that played the top roles in the match's.

- Were there any quirks that were "pushed outside what they were designed for"?
- Did any one chassis or build dominate most of the gameplay?
- Should there be any adjustments made?

I didn't appreciate the scoring rule set stating that "kills" would be the top element, and as others have stated, this lead to some rather unpleasant "Me First" game play. I hope the next Turny presented for "Lances Only" will offer better gameplay and co-ordination of team play. But we will have to wait for the rules and scoring to be addressed before we see any changes to how teams operate on the field.

I also thought it was odd that the "Opt In" was terminated before the competition started, which may have eliminated quite a few players that can only attend on the week-ends, or check the forums daily.
(yes, I know that an e-mail was sent out, but it wasn't clear that 10am Friday was the cut-off time for entering.)

Might I suggest an "event" news flash somewhere in the MechLab? It's not like we don't have a bunch of monitors in there that do nothing! Maybe even look at a "Banner" on the back wall announcing the next competition/Turny, just like a Solaris event.
[Advertisement in your stable, motivation for those engineers and tech's that never seem to be around.] - just a thought.

- We really need the information communication aspect of the game to be increased, wither between Mech's or the team, it needs to be enhanced. The last discussions from Bryan were about a "command wheel" or "quick orders" type of system, if we are going to be operating in Lances we need faster methods to indicate a target, location of contact, direction of movement. Just as some examples. Active Comms would be great but that doesn't seem to be on the priority list, so one button info broadcasts need to be here, now.

Just some observations,
9erRed

I think I was sitting at #240-something for a bit, but I wasn't playing that much. Hats off to the Steiners who showed up on the leaderboard, though - I'd drop with you guys, but the ELO level on that game would likely mean a very short stay for me.

All of my best matches were in one of two mechs:

Atlas D-DC with ECM, AC20, 2xLL, 3xSRM6
Stalker 4N with 4xLL, 2xLRM10, LRM5

Ended up at #154 in the Merc Corps, but I could have done better if I'd played exclusively in the tournament instead of with my group one night, and used the Atlas straight out of the gates (I only used it in the last few matches I played, but did 900+ dmg three times and in those three matches had a total of 9 kills and 26 assists). I did really well with the Stalker, too, but stayed in the 400-650 dmg and 1-2 kills area.

Step 1: Sign-in and choose your House Faction before opting-in by Friday March 21st at 10:00 am PDT on our website at https://mwomercs.com/profile/faction.

Step 2: Opt-in on our website before Friday March 21st at 10:00am PDT at http://mwomercs.com/tournaments.

Step 3: The contest period lasts from Friday March 21st 10:00am PDT until Sunday Mar 23rd 11:59pm PDT.

So it turns out that I missed a very key point for this Faction Challenge. I didn't notice that the cut-off to opt in was on Friday morning! I logged on to play this past Saturday, only to find out it was too late to join up... The worst part, I was on a hot-streak and had some of the best matches of my time on MWO. Shitty, yeah?

Oh well. Live and learn.
One of these days I'll actually be able to complete in an event, and I may even remember to sign up in time.

Congrats to those who placed well.
