When people are taking jump jets off spiders and putting in smaller engines to add a second ERLL the game is screwed royally.
its Rare to see a ravens or spiders that are not packing a pair of ERll or an erppc now, the games stayed extreme range even with the ac nerf its going to stay long range and will do so until PGI grow a pair and start hard capping the numbers of each weapon and not just catagory each mech can load.
Until they effectively kill boating this game will stay the one dimensional mess its become

I can count the number of mid game crashes where pgi's server code wasn't borked, one one hand since closed beta.
and when your racking up a score its freaking frustrating..

Yes. It's a boat. It's an MLboat the same way every mech tht packs on more than 3 of any same weapon type is accused of being a boat regardless of size. More than 3 LRMs? Boat. 3 ACs? Boat. SRMs? Boat. ERLLs? Boat.
Another way to look at it would be if you have no way to put in a near equal amount of a secondary weapon of equal amount.
Here's the punchline... Being a boat is NOT a bad thing.

Acting the squirrel, get an enemy light to follow me..
run directly in front of a friendly stalker, enemy follows, shooting me the whole time
friendly stalker DOES NOT EVEN LOOK, TURN, OR FIRE at the enemy mech I served up to him on a silver platter, but continues to fire LRMS into terrain (on TD) thinking he's damaging the enemy mech 1200m+ away...
the enemy light breaks contact with me and proceeds to tear up the stalkers rear armor
I admit, I hesitated for a second before helping.....but did chase the light off his back so he could go back to killing cliff faces

Aye true, an lrm stalker is GREAT when you have other assaults that can fight at least mid range, but awful when you don't have enough heavy metal on your team to hold the enemy so the lrm stalker can pelt them. As for battlemaster and awesomes....that's debatable in my book. If you are dropping with two other assaults who again, are not pure lrms and can and will fight at mid to close then sure thing.
Otherwise, you'll be expecting some amazing play from your mediums.

nobody on my team wants to actually fight the atlas d-dc (two of them)..so I engage at close range in my ember....that is the moment that someone on my team decides to drop arty on the (ME)...

I don't get it. If I fight a firestarter, the thing is a tank. Puts the armour on my heavies to shame. Double Ac/20 to the leg, and they just keep on truckin.
If I play a firestarter, I may as well rename it the Origami, with maxed out armor I get one-shot killed.
Of course, I'm well aware this is just perception but I seem to live longer and do more damage in my locusts then the Firestarter. Even more puzzling I have a 2.67 Win/Loss ratio in the damn Firestarter!
