Had a game where a DDC insisted that we all camp in base on forest colony. Of course we didn't, as it's cretinous in the extreme.
He then refuses to go forward or do anything constructive in his 100 ton assault, besides "support" us with his single lrm 20.
All our assaults were lrm users. We had no one to tackle their 4 assaults and 4 heavies.....so you guessed it our lighter team gets mashed up whilst our assaults and the ddc in particular hide at the ack. It turns out that he gets 5 kills, counting to us sarcastically as he does so.
I had tried to explain to him earlier that because he's hiding, the smaller mechs are getting mashed trying to take on the enemy assaults. Because he wouldn't go forward it forced all of us to have to fight to try to stall them from rolling us. The sole reason he got his 5 kills was because of the rest of the team weakening his victims for him, but dying in the process.
The galling thing was he actually believed he was playing well. He ended up getting swarmed and dying like a rank amateur.

It's this sort of player that ruins the experience.

I don't think it's deliberate sometimes though matey.....I think sometimes peeps just get overwhelmed with multiple things happening at the same time. A friend of mine who plays WoW with me is an excellent hunter, crafty and clever in pvp but...put him under pressure with 3-4 targets and watch him start to struggle....
I feel that for some peope, a game like MWO can be overwhelming, we've all seen the player struggling to decide what to do-or the one that reacts poorly or has seeming tunnel vision.

The dangerous players are the ones who can stay cool, size the situation up instantly then ACT IMMEDIATELY. Anyone else is just fodder.

Well nobody expects players to make optimum decisions all the time, but theres a very big difference between shooting what may not be the optimum target and just...not shooting at all. If you have friendlies just standing there 100m or less away watching you get shot, you know something is fishy...

Every other game, then?

That'll be my whine.

Earlier today on Caustic Valley in my PPC Cicada. Our entire team folded to a push and it was myself, a Quickdraw and a Firestarter left against 9 enemies. Got a clean shot off on an ECM Spider, but before my weapons could recycle he closed the gap and skilfully remained within 90m so I ran towards my teammates capping Gamma. I circled the Quickdraw three times so he could see the Spider chewing on my ass but nope. Just stood there firing Mlas at a Stalker over 600m away. The Firestarter that was there... I don't know, but the time the Spider killed me everyone else was dead too.

But seriously. A team mate in obvious trouble and you don't even attempt to help out. gg.

After reading that thread I had gotten him mixed up with another "gentleman" I ran into...
Though I did pop on and apologise to this guy, there was about 5 people railing at him-he seems to have spun a rather.....fanciful turn of events though. His version and actual events don't really match lol.

My whine today I guess is people like him, doing what he did and then coming on the forums and making threads to defend themselves, when in reality a bit of self reflection might have said "maybe they were a bit right, maybe I should have....."

Though I think he did deserve an apology, even though his own behaviour was far from stellar.

Im not sure why this is so common these days. I dont remember this being a problem in beta either, or even shortly after release.

Back then people WANTED to get in and shoot the enemy mechs. Infact i seem to recall that people used to complain their team was TOO eager to engage. Now it seems that a lot of people would rather watch their teammates die.

What happened?

People ranting about how X is better than Y - while not even responding to any counter arguments

Or pretending said arguments do not exist - IE Phelan and the LAMS issue

Or SRM register for ME so they register for everyone!

Just came off the test server with an overwhelming feeling of "meh"

Horrified at the new wave of assault mechs inbound, oh and the uber poptart: Timberwolf.
One of the guys I run with probably has near enough quit ( much like most of my 1st unit), he was hoping the tide of heavy/assault mechs would be stymied a bit-but nope.
I feel like a bit of a prannet for forking out for the kitfox pack+adder. I could have put that money to better use, like taking my girlfriend out for dinner or giving to a charity.
The saddest thing though was my utter feeling of sheer disgust when I saw my first gold mech, I know I shouldn't judge but the contempt I felt.....
I hate realising my flaws.

could just pretend it's another lurm Stalker.

(or maybe that'll just make you sad whenever you see a real Stalker that could've been an ecm DDC)

personal tearful moment. in my mighty dual MPL/SRM4 Locust 1M on forest assault. base is being captured. find a light and an untouched catapult there. someone chases off the light while i keep the cat busy. then the details appear... dual PPC K2. tears of joy roll down my cheeks as i proceed to stay within 90m and tear it apart. everything starts turning orange and it tries to hobble away leaving juicy even more vulnerable rear armor to rear apart, goes bright orange, then red and it dies.... "you have gained 140xp"

someone else tickled it with a laser or something from across the map because there was literally not another friendly in sight (and it wasn't even a turret KS). don;t you people know how hard it is to kill stuff in a locust w/o arty/airstrike (i'm cheap with my cbills) as it is nm when i actually do all the work??? throw me a bone willya? ;)

then again today has pretty much been a series of
1) see engaged enemy mech
2) run to it
3) see it in bad shape but as soon as i turn this corner/climb this ridge i can alpha
4) turn the corner and watch enemy mech crumble just as i'm ready to hit the fire button.
5) goto 1

Counting down the days to the impending "TKpocalypse" when Gold Mechs hit the field... :D

The fact that the above is even a possibility makes me sad. So sad. And I didn't even buy one of those things.

It certainly is a hornet's nest. The gold mechs are very, very crass though and a poor move from PGI. Remember the furor when they had the line "only the most loyal pilots.....?"

I'm sure PGI and IGP should have seen the resentment wave a mile off. The have nots don't generally like the haves reminding them of that fact....... <_<

*edit*
Campwarrioronline it seems. Every single game today, my team simply will not push, or flank or move or react to anything that happens on the grid.
In one game, I was brawling with my lrm Awesome. Yes, an lrm awesome brawling because the DDC's on my team wouldn't.
686 damage half of that done with 1 large laser and 1 medium pulse laser.
Really?
WHY are players so timid?

Logged off in sheer disgust today.
Only played 5 or 6 games. All of them bar one were campfests with the result? My team, the camper team losing every single time exactly the same way. Get surrounded and get slaughtered.
Last game, tried warning the team ELEVEN times we had enemies approaching. they all sheep herd off trying to gank 3 mechs....they were getting torn up from the back by two snipers.
Luckily, the enemy team decided to just stop and stand about looking scared and confused too so we managed to fluke the win.

I'm frankly getting fed up with the "defend the pugs" brigade. No matter HOW I put info across, they never seem to listen. All this elitist premade drivel, at least when I warn them they usually DO something!
I finally understand the cat herding analogy now.

I got ticked off after half a dozen incidents of team treason on either Assault or Conquest so I decided to try to start a new trend;

Frozen City; Despite a really intense fight we ended up 11-6 with me being the last guy vs. a Hunchback, a K2, a Kintaro and an Ember I had legged but could not kill earlier. I was in my (to date) rather useless Phoenix Griffon with LRM/LPL. I had been forced to take cover by jumping over the cliff on the bottom half of the map.

I took position on the edge of the map with some open space between me and any approaching enemies. I fired a couple of LPL shots into the air to signal where I was, but nobody was coming to get me. I thought about the last few matches and decided to stand still and type in "Last guy DC in C6". Still no reaction so I typed it in again "DC in C6".

The Kintaro appears on the ledge and takes aim with his LRMs.... thinking that I was DC, but... I got a lock with my LRMs and tickled his cherry red CT to death. LOL

Start using team treason to your advantage people; call out false locations, set up traps, etc. :)

many maps, either assault or skirmish, doesn't matter.....

new trend appearing...noticed it many times the ast week or so...

main force of my team is engaged with the main force of the enemy team, generally with a ridge or hill in between...mechs popping up over or peeking around the sides to take potshots...

enemy light appears on radar behind the team

ENTIRE team turns to chase the light, completely ignoring the main force that they are currently engaged with, and have just exposed their squishy rear armor to

enemy pushes over the hill/ridge and obliterates my team....but hey, at least that one guy got to deal a little damage to that one light as the whole team chases him
