Only time I got butt hurt was trying to play a D-DC half the team isn't just inside the ecm umbrella, but trying to make a home up my *********
its worse than having a honey badger clinging to your ankle, and far more annoying
I wouldn't know about honey badgers - only critter up here that really clings to you are the mosquitoes.
Learning to position yourself around the ECM is apparently rather awkward though - I sympathize with you there.

With only 2 mechs?

If the 99% of team goes for I9, no reason not to support it
Depends on what they have and how they are laid out up there.
If they have a solid LRM setup - you are more or less walking across open ground there.

If they have brawlers - the back of the hill there can let them wait in ambush and gut you quick.
Still better than a lot of the other options (rarely seen walking around the bottom of the mountain work) but there are still reasons to not as well.
Sending a quick mech around the bottom to H12 to check on what they have is usually a good idea
(especially if they have long range weapons to plink at the enemy with) but most PuGs do not have the patience for that
