so a final uppdate to my thread here.

i own 3 mechs now; jager dd, firebrand and misery. misery is atm in the garage.

the dd i have 3 ac2 and 1 ac5 whit 2 macineguns for clouse combat, i cant afford double heatsinks yet(something the firebrand will help whit) so i have some heat issues but nothing i cant handle by beeing a bit less trigger happy.

firebrand is pure big boy lasers just cuz i wanted it and i realy like lasers; 2 er lasers and 2 er ppc.
it generates heat like hell, but whit quite alot of double heatsinks the cooling rate is pretty ok.

funny thing is i do better in the firebrand then in the dd, dunno why.
now this dont make a good player. i never score kills and my dmg is around 150-250 on both of them, so i am what you would call a red stat player.
but Idc as i have fun using them!

Try the misery, as it's a solid mech. No pun intended there. (solid as in zombies well and as in does well in many categories.)

Firebrand is a solid mech, though you may want to put dual ACs of some sort to help with the heat. DD you may want to try dual AC5s plus 4 MGs or something similar, as this would allow you to be very heat efficient for the time being. AC2s are hot as heck.

BTW, it would help if you posted the builds from smurfy so we could maybe pinpoint certain aspects of the builds.

That's great that you're having fun though in the game now, just keep on having fun and play leisurely! ;)

firebrand

yes its nowhere near its weight limit, but i love big big lasers.

the DD build i found, firebrand i did by myself as a complete rookie.

That DD is a bit hot, and it is useless when the arms go or it runs out of ammo. I would recommend 2xUAC5+2xLL+4xMG for some zombie capability and lots of DPS at any range (XL260 and XL265 weigh the same).

Your Firebrand looks like a pro sniper build. No joke. You can find this or something like this on Catapults. You always want to hit the weight limit, and then trim armor here and there for ~1 ton more. This one can fit an XL325 engine quite nicely.

i`ll deffo get the 325 for my firebrand, ty for that tip.

i will try your suggestion on the dd but not shure if i will like it, but you are right. as it is now, when my arms are dead im usless.

Yeah, the Firebrand is solid. Make sure not to fire all your lasers at once however, put on chain fire/ 2 lasers + 2 lasers.

DD needs some work, maybe Ultras/LBXs/AC5s with MGs and lasers of some sort. Try switching the solid XL 280, which is a strong engine to have and switch around in the Jagermechs.

well, i tryed Modo44`s DD suggestion but as i thought i did not like it.
the UAC5 jammed way to mutch and i felt uncomfy whit its short range.

simple fact seems to be that i feel uncomfy at ranges under 700m.(prolyl why i enjoy my firebrand so mutch whit er lasers)

i know the AC2 dont have any fear factor but i realy like them due to their range, so im going to spend quite some time in smurf to see if i can think of something.

700m is OK for that DD build, as it has very good cooling, so you can spam the LLs and still do decent damage. But if you are after maximum punch at extreme range, nothing can beat dual Gauss.

Glad your enjoying MW:O. A classic set-up for the DD is 2xAC/5 2xAC/2 and it can deal some good damage. Never chain fire AC/2s, always fire them together... they generate huge heat if chain fired. What I tend to do is have both AC/2 on Left mouse, Both AC/5s on the right mouse for easy alpha shots. Then I'lll have mouse 3 be the AC/5s in chain fire mode. What this allows is doing a nice sustained dakka fire that can put the scare into people.

One thing, now that LRMs are being used AMS helps a lot. As does staying near friendly AMS. The overlapping coverage can really reduce the incoming damage. Might still seem like a lot of missiles hitting, but damage will be lessened.

Good luck and if you're looking for a place to find other pilots to drop with, in my Sig is the address for the Comstar North American Teamspeak, open to all. Always people around to drop with.

UAC5s have a ton of range same as AC2 and AC5. Yeah, I didn't really like UACs, so your best bet is to go down to AC5s. Then place some extra MGs and lasers and you should be set.

I like the firebrand build, and you can go to just LL's if the heat is too bad. One build I like is the 340 standard, 2 x MG's and 6 x SPL's. It is fun, fast and preforms surprising well, especially charging LRM boats after stalking them.

The DD build, maybe look at using 2 LB-10's, 4x MG's and 2 ML's and bump the leg armor up a ton or two SL's if you put the 280XL from the firebrand in it. Also two AC 5's and Two AC 2's are damgerous, but the damage persecond is higher with the LBX;s. Look at the Jager S or A for the next mech. The A will introduce you to running SRM's, LRM's and SSRM's with either MG's or AC's. The S will be a good AC platform like the DD, but with two more energy slots in the torso. Both will give you standard 260 engines.

one other DD build is to have all MG's, with either PPC's, ERPPC's or LPL's in the torso with a large standard engine to taste.

Some jagers are up in your face with high crit seeking weapons or long range DAKKA.

I run both types depending on mood. Some times I like to steak up on my prey, and other times leg the raven at 1000 m and call in lights to finish him off. I had a very hard time in the beginning with the Jagers, until I ran the Jager A and it forced me to sit back and support. Not 500 m, but 100 to 200 m from the back of the atlas in front of me. That is when running jaggers changed for me. Then I started to run large standard engines in the firebrand. Now I have LL's, AC 5 and 4 SL's in the fire brand and yes I have legged or killed Locusts and Ravens with the torso SL's while firing AC's at another mech.

well, i prolly shot myself in the leg when i got the DD as my first mech, but that all part of the learning.

i gave up the ac`s on my dd as pugs are not ment for them as no1 charges, they all just stand in 1 group in 1 square.(just gave up on them on the dd, i have a ctf-4x whit quad ac5 for the day pugs are capable of basic battlefield understanding, or if i find a guild, whatever comes first)

so i went whit 2x guass to be as far away from my team blob as possible. i like the shell velocity but the dmg when at 800m-1,2km aint mutch to brag about, only the weakest goes back to hiding, the bad boys takes atleast 5 shots for them to hide.

i have done the basic skills on the dd so im keeping it for now untill i find a better 2x guass platform.
6 tons of ammo aint enughf at all when i get into a battle where im not dead whitin 4 mins, need prolly about 8 tons if not 10.

but how do i unlock the adv zoom? i have 2 mill so why cant i buy it?

(apparently i hit the nail on the firebrand. very fun to use :), dunno if it is the xl or the quad ER lasers that makes me a primary target, but im never ever selling that one.)

There is currently no better dual Gauss platform than the Jager. You can kind of do it on the Cataphracts, but the low arms make it less efficient (it takes longer to go around/over cover, and you show your entire mech to fire). Dual Gauss is scary once you have improved your aim. 2-3 well-placed shots can cripple many mechs. The AC5/UAC5 guns are better as far as general DPS goes.

To unlock modules, go to Skills > Pilot Skills. You need to spend GXP for that. After unlocking, you need to buy a module in the Upgrades screen for a mech. Once bought, modules can be moved between mechs.

I still have to buy the DD, even after mastering the other three Jagers last summer.

For the adv zoom you have to unlock that with GXP in the pilot skills tab under skills. I am not sure how much GXP it takes, to unlock it but 5000, 1000, or 15000 are the normal amounts. I use it with AC 2 to great effect. The 2 million Cbills for the advance zoom is for after you unlocked it.

The Gauss jager is a high priority target, but having two MLs is needed. I run with 210 XL 10 DHS (two out side engine) 2x ML's 2x Gauss and 6 tons of ammo. Slow but works. Also practice on the training grounds firing while moving at an angle to the targets at full speed. It will teach you to lead the targets. The gauss need practice, a lot of practice, but are very deadly.

The DD due to heat, maybe just run 3 AC 2's. and some ML's and MG's. Using standard engines on Jagers does lead to longer life, but at a cost of how many Auto cannons you can fit into the thing.

You could also have 3 x ac 5's 6 or 7 tons of ammo, 2x MG's and 2 x ML's with the DD and a 260 XL with AMS. Runs cool.

Friebrand is just a fun mech to run, may not be the perfect meta for the game, but fun.

true. i dont see many other jagers whit 4ER laser so i know its a rarity, but as you said, fun. thats why i play.

if by leading the targets you mean predicting where they will go and aim before them, then that is something i do in my tds in wot, so i know the basics.
but not having the adv zoom is tricky sometimes and i think that is why i have around 40% hit ratio on my guass, as many times i cant see if it is a rock or a mech due to the range and the shade and i end up hitting the rock instead.
i have seen youtube vid of the adv zoom and i know it will help me alittle atleast.

The 4xERLL build was typical on Stalkers, but the current LRM rain changed that. People often choose ACs+PPCs because it is easier to manage the heat, and the alphastrike goes into one location (lasers typically spread damage, even with near-perfect aim).

true, i dont kill but i shure hope me doing laser dmg all over the place helps the rest of the team to kill.

got the zoom now btw, it did increase the fun factor of the DD 2x gauss as i now can see.
did 2 battels whit it, 1st 280 dmg, 2nd 430 dmg, all due to the zoom.
for me to do over 210dmg is rare! :)

The zoom module will also help with aiming ERLLs. Lowering your mouse sensitivity (even further if it is already low) would also be something to try.

So remember when I said this?

View PostKoniving, on 25 March 2014 - 12:52 PM, said:

If you start in Alpha and you are not part of a premade, ask in lance chat (U) if they are. Chances are it's always true. For myself, it's rare but sometimes they are not. If Alpha is not a premade and you are in Alpha then chances are almost every enemy and every ally is very inexperienced except the rival alpha lance. That's when you'll know if you have to carry the game. But that's a ways away.

So about 20 minutes ago I had that same experience. I was in Alpha. My team had two premades who operated on opposing principles. Alpha was more interested in capturing bases, incredibly early in the match which left me largely fighting off the enemy's entire lance mostly by myself (the Jenner retreated, first kill was the Commando followed by a Battlemaster and Stalker; of which one kill went to the Raven that was kind enough to join me near the very end. Bravo was duking it out for theta which was a losing fight.
Posted Image
In the end, it was two guys who had spent 2 minutes trying to capture one point after 1 minute of getting there, when at that time we were only down by 10 points and had a major health advantage over the enemy (aside from my firepower, both the Battlemaster and the Jager were in nearly perfect condition).

So as I said.. If you're not in a premade and you're in Alpha, be prepared to carry the game.

Btw. Praise to that Jenner dude. o.O; He got away and went on to completely annihilate a bunch of people.

only 1 time have i been placed in B lance, but i think that was some kind of error as the C lance did way more dmg then my B lance.(me included)

but im happy im in C lance as i now know where on the maps i start and it fits my long range playstyle, + it allows me to have fun and not think about "i must be the best"
its true that some1 else might have to carry a bit due to me,but all the more chanse for them to improve their stats.
