So we're not just a single regiment, we've got enough people to make a certain amount of the clan? And if so would there be battles between clans and battles between regiments?

All of the groups are separate units. The mechanics of the game are unknown for the most part so It's hard to answer the second part of the question. However, lines of communication are open, and we hope to avoid such events.

The Devs said that some of the important non house units would be locked down. I'd assume the Wolf's Dragoons will be one of them. As to what units want to call themselves, well you could say the the same for the Clan Wolves, Clan Jade Falcon and everyone unit who has played under that banner, in some cases as a gaming group since MechWarrior 2. No one, not the Devs or the community really has the right to tell any one of these groups of players, to change their name or call themselves something suiting. Outside of MWO automation they can be whatever they want. Inside the automation for MWO, maybe they will have to rename, who knows. However, the Devs already added some of the Dragoon affiliated groups websites to the site list, so they are aware of what is going on. Thus far it seems to be an acceptable approach. In fact the Idea behind this whole thing is good natured. It was designed so there was not 5+ groups all trying to say 'they are the Wolf's Dragoons', regardless of the in game limits. Doing it this way has made room for many Dragoon affiliated groups to continue the affiliation, while also having some communication and options to work together further in the future. I don't feel this effort warrants any kind of lambasting.

Not lambasting, and i agree with your point about the clans as well. I also agree with the concept of providing a base for 'affiliated' groups. I just don't agree with what amounts to player made guilds with established leadership structures and the pre-formed relationships, cliques, and the commonly insular community that goes with it, proclaiming themselves a canon unit in game. While its all good natured it can be confusing for people new to the site. It gives the appearance of being official. That if i want to be a dragoon i have to join one of your player made groups. But i suspect thats the point isnt it?

I can appreciate your concerns around pre-established groups. Yes, your not really going to know if you will fit in, or if that group will meet the standards you hold up in personal regard. Certainly there is no way to really know without looking at each unit, talking to them and then maybe giving them a shot. I always see it as a two way street. Obviously that unit wants people who will work with the units mantra, whatever it maybe, and the collective personality of the group. But it's important for people joining to feel that association, and that their goals and play style suit the individual. Unhappy people in a unit seems counter productive to the unit.

Like you, non of us really know how things are going to work. It is very confusing for new players to see what units are out there. As for officialdom, well the developers have stated that most of the major merc units within the lore will be locked out. So wave good by to Wolf's Dragoons, Northwind Highlanders, Kell Hounds. Will we be able to affiliate to these units in game without actually controlling them? Your guess is as good as my own.

Right now the community only has this forum, and limited guidelines from the developers. Some of the groups which formed Dragoon units or not are new and old. There were actually several Dragoon units which posted very early on the forums as you can imagine. Before even the announcement was made about the major Mercs being locked out. From there, the community advocates and Dragoon followers hoped to put a player driven system to allow as many people to start up a Dragoon affiliated unit as possible. There is certainly no officialdom for any of the units who post on the Merc Corp forum. And no one can stop you from starting up your own Black Widow Company, regardless of upsetting the other group. The Devs have said signing up your unit to the game is first come first serve. That's all we know. Some of the groups have been able to register their forums and websites on the community portal, I don't know if that is an official nod or not.

If your unhappy to join another Dragoon unit, then that's your call. If you want to join another group again your call. There is no game, or system in place yet. It's just a forum and a time for old friends from MechWarrior to get back in touch re-form their old units or whatever, and get excited about a new MechWarrior game. There is little to no officialdom with any of the Merc Corps from the development studio. It's pure community. Anyway, these are my personal views, I'd like to point out I am no way speaking for the other Dragoon groups on this forum.

Your personal views mesh exactly with mine so I'd like to point out that you do an excellent job of speaking for all of us (at least those of us who are vocal).

Here is our Unit Organization using the same chart but added the Battalion's logos (Howling Wolf, Claw print, Devil, Arrow). I made the logos but are based off of the actual Alpha's Regiments-Battalions logo's.
http://www.wolfsalpha.com/page.php?4

Unit Colors and insignia's
http://www.wolfsalpha.com/page.php?8

We've also decided to use the German numbering system on our mechs
Example: 113 = 1st Company, 1st Lance, 3rd Mech.

If we can custom paint our mechs, this would help visually know who is who in battle.

so help me out... if your were to play as part of SRG / Wolf"s Dragoons.
note only two companies in references... Graham's and Combined Arms Companies.

...and you are in the 3rd squad (Mech), 3rd Lance, Graham's Company (The Night Owls) your Mech would be marked G33 or 133?

thanks for your help in advance.

There isn't a required structure or pattern, that's something that Metalbourne's unit is doing. I don't believe we have an SRG unit yet (current status on forums is "Unclaimed") but feel free to join us.

As for your question... if there's no numerical designator for Graham's Company you have two options:
1) Go with G33 because the US military has something similar to the German system
2) Take a bit of creative license and designate a numerical order for Graham's Company.

Personally I'd be more inclined to go with Option 1 because I'm not German. Option 2 is a bit more risky in terms of inciting fury among the rabid fanbois. If you decide on #2, I'd make Graham's Company a number one because typically combined-arms units take the tail end on a TO&E because they aren't pure (as in, one single type of unit).

Firefly,
thanks for the reply...

agree G33 make sense to me also...

Once this gets going and things get fleshed out; I'll definetly come join and team up with other player's in Wolf's Dragoons.

I'm new to the whole mechwarrior world and have been downloading the various source material out there and reading it in my spare time.

again thx for the reply.

An interesting development plan, the 'Wolf's Dragoons Alliance' :-) ... I also wonder how the system will look like once the game is launched ... I would be very interested in joining (and possibly) forming the Special Recon Group (depending on the time requirements) ... I could setup another specific thread in this subforum ...

I'm hoping we are going to be able to slip by with our seperate company names. As the developers have said that that certain major groups will be "employers" and therefore be blocked from being used as a straight name.
I hope we will be able to get by with calling ourselves the "Black Widow Company" and "Alpha Regiment" even though they are part of Wolf's Dragoons. We'll probably take Wolf Dragoons jobs seperately to respresent the Dragoons as a whole. Or atleast as a mock force.

Also, I want to appologize for acting like a tool earlier in the thread. We were struggling to establish ourselves, although that doesn't excuse my behavior.

I'm really interested in joining the Dragoons, and I've played the tabletop from back when, then quit, and have recently gotten involved again with the Catalyst reboot. I'm also one of the RPers who liked Mechwarrior and the first book of the new line I bought was A Time of War. Again, I'm interested, but I'm a lone pilot. I don't know anyone who's coming onboard Mechwarrior Online with me, thought I've been talkin to a few of my freinds about it.

I say go for it. I believe there was a guy in the thread earlier asking if we had an SRG. The answer is, we currently do not. But we welcome the addition!

I'm also looking for a group to play with. I currently dont know how much time I will be able to play. The SRG interest me aswell. I have played a few MW's but most of my time was spent playing Mechcommander's. Any groups out there that do not require huge time requirements?

So far *NOBODY* has applied as, or formed, the SRG. Several people have talked about it, IN THIS THREAD - this means there should be a lance's worth of SRG-capable bodies. Feel free to take initiative and form the unit. Alternately, you can join any one of the number of Dragoons units.

Hey, anyhow, I've already talked with my CO on this for our regiment, but, I think that each regiment should have it's own hot drop lance, or two ready for when the game releases, if you guys need some instruction, I'll provide, as I've already typed up the Manual for our hot drop lance.

I'm about to lock down the Dragoons forums and make it Dragoons-only, as I'm personally anticipating GDC to bring us an MWO beta date. I would say, my opinion is: let's keep individual tactics internal-only.

Just started playing World of Tanks due to it being mentioned here. It seems to have some features similar to what is planned in MWO. If anyone is playing or wish to join me my Name is Mechzeige there.

On the SRG topic. I'm willing to help start the group. If anyone else wants to do that PM me.
