Are Spiders Overpowered?

I have been informed by several people on the forum that Spiders seem to have a balance issue in the game and that anyone using them is using a loophole of some sort. I have not found that to be the case myself but the animosity toward Spider pilots seems to coraborate the opinion.
Does anyone know what these gameplay imbalances are? Please share.

It will be a more amusing mech if we ever reach Compact Gyros. You could fit a PPC and Medium Laser in the CT, or a pair of Large Lasers.

I doubt we'd get that far (in terms of the timeline, or even getting something like this), besides it would be a serious balancing issue on some variants (although, I'm not sure if it'll make the Awesome-9M godly).
It would only be interesting if mixtech is allowed... (2 Clan ER Large or 1 Clan ERPPC would fit...)

LOL "intended purpose" oh god. Don't make me laugh so hard. The roles of mechs have always been skewed in MechWarrior games. You can't force tabletop logic on a video game. Hell, using tabletop logic you could argue your DDC and Highlander are both capable of things they shouldn't be able to do...

I have bought only one and on the base level without any upgrades i was able to do stupidly well, but only because I had ECM and knew they were having serious issues hitting me.
They are very hard to hit because they are so thin, and are a little buggy so their survivability is beyond nearly all other lights I have found.
Are they overpowered? Depends how you define that, they can be taken down but generally you need to gang up on them or ignore them until they are the only ones left so you can getmore angles on them.
SSRMs and BAP are your friends against them

over-powered/buggy/glitchy is all the same garbage when it benefits them!

They tend to have a dodge hitbox. So , in short they are broke in the fact you could blast them with a full on front 5 laser shot and do no damage or maybe 5 -- it's amazing to watch also why they are left last in many drops.
