Personally I want the Nova Cat or the Templar to become available. Nobody ever talks about the Templar but the Nova Cat's awesomeness cannot be denied.

The Templar was created in 3062. The Nova Cat was made in 3059. Currently PGI is keeping the selection to mechs in production by 3050-ish. Maybe once all the previous mechs are released, they will consider going to the next year of releases (which is by Technical Readouts, and that means 3055)

From what I hear, this thing is going to be an Urbie in looks alone since it's likely to have the movement profile of a Kit Fox.

All I am saying is that I think the Urbie doesn't really have a place in the game as it is now. It should have been easter egg or PvE content that paid the needed respect to the mech without forcing it into a PvP game where it will need perks and boosts to become viable.

So.... Just like most of the IS mechs? Remember what the quircks are?

still disappointed that all the variants are ballistic oriented, wanted the R80 with ppc and ecm, and the 68 with missles. as for max engine 120 sounds good.
Sadly, the UM-R80 is a Jihad era mech, not in production till 3076 sadly.
Comes with a Snub Nosed PPC and Improved Jump Jets.

I also want a UM-AIV.

Yay Urbie! uh... $40 for one package - dafuk?!
There's a $20 package, and a $40 pack.
The $40 comes with a UG 'Hero', and a bunch of extra stuff.
Value of what you get in that pack is roughly $100.

It is a decent deal looking at the regular costs for the items offered. Now if you are patient and wait for deals and sales, then it is almost tied in costs...except for the titles and steins.

But the REAL thing is that regardless of whether or not you think the Urbanmech is a weak "joke" mech or an elite mech, the story is really about how this community has influenced the game, and that PGI does listen! It does take time (which is what you get with a F2P game), but it will happen.

This means eventually we may get the Thug, Hussar, Dervish, Flea, Champion, Black Knight and maybe....just maybe....the Unseen mechs one day. I would say if you want to help this continue, then just get the $20 version of this. Say thank you to the company. ENCOURAGE THEM TO LISTEN TO US.
Even if the content was at half price, the $40 package wins by another $10-20.

Both are pretty worth it really, certainly at least on par with any other pack, only really losing out on colours.

Okay, there's a fair number of people wondering how this thing could ever be viable, so let me give you a couple scenarios.

1) You can make one with other mechs. If you try to make an "urbanmech" out of another Light (such as the Urbiespider, Urbiefirestarter, Urbie...whatever - raven?), you are doing two things: missing the point, and also hurting your team. You are actually hurting your team. Why? Because you are taking a mech whose only advantage is speed and maneuverability and turning it into something slow. You are meant to be a lightning-quick harasser who gets in and gets out, scouts, and so on.

With an actual Urbanmech, you aren't doing that: you are a light fire support platform. When you move slow with a big gun in an Urbanmech, you are actually doing your job.

2) You're too slow. Who runs stock builds? I mean outside of private, one-off drops? Not many, I'm willing to bet. But even so, I would imagine you aren't going to see many serious builds running slower than, say, 65kph. Running a 5 ton STD125 (and you might even be able to run an XL in this thing), you'll be moving at 75kph. Not Light-quick, for sure, but enough to keep pace with the big boys, which is exactly where you want to be.

Have you ever been in a scrum in a Heavy or Assault? Something like 6+ mechs? And there's almost always a Commando or something running around in there, but you largely ignore it because you want to take down that Atlas or Whale first, rather than waste shots on the tiny-whatever. So being able to move at 75kph should be good enough - just be sure you're using that "speed" to duck behind the bigs between shots.

3) There won't be any viable builds. After adding the five heatsinks, this will leave you with probably about 10-14 tons after armor for weapons (depending on how you tweak it). If you want an AC20 in there, it'll come at a sacrifice for sure - you either will be moving too slow, or you won't be able to pack enough ammo to be viable. Same with a Gauss.

That's why I'm thinking that an energy platform might be a better fit for this mech. A LPL only weighs in at 7 tons, and you could slap two in there for the cost of one AC20 (and that doesn't include the ammo the AC20 would need). So you're already doing more damage than an AC20 with a weapon that won't run out of ammo.

Similarly, you can slap in MPLs and MGs (I'm especially looking at the R63 - 3MGs on one side, 3MPLs on the other). Sure, it won't be pouring out loads of damage, but a target won't be able to just ignore you, either.

Beyond being a mini-brawler, the Urbie can also be a longer range platform: an ERPPC weighs the same as an LPL. Add to this that the Urbie will be the smallest mech capable of hill-humping, and its silhouette will be extremely hard to plink. It's a TINY mech with high-mounted hardpoints - I think capable pilots will be able to use that to their advantage.

4) Fun and Challenging. Not everyone is playing this game to have the ultra-super-meta-build and to "win." Some of us, like me, are 40yo dudes who have been playing this game since it was a mod for Traveler and play this game as a 15-30 minute escape from reality. This isn't my life, this isn't even really my hobby - it's a distraction. Sometimes I want to really smash through my opponent, sometimes I just want to run around in my Locust and cap things. Sometimes? I want to pilot something fun and goofy and challenging and see if I can make it work.

Those moments? When someone sees your mech and types out "lol n00b" and then you paste them into the scenery? Those are fun.

Not sure why it matters to me, but the people advocating, at least on Twitter, for the Urbanmech are not wanting the one you guys want. They are trying to get a "new Spider" that can go as fast as a Spider, with hardpoints like a Firestarter, and as small as a Commando. If they have their way, you will just have another meta light called an Urbanmech, and there will be no pride in piloting one, nor destroying one...

Well, they're right that it'll be tiny. Lore-wise, the Urbanmech is smaller than the Commando. But as fast as a Spider? I hope not. I hope they cap the engine at about 200. You could still move at 110kph, which is LIGHTNING fast for an Urbie, but not light speeds. You want a Spider, get a Spider.

Plus you feel disgust and pity, because your sense of humour and social skills are crippled, and you feel the need to join in conversations about things you don't like, in some perverse, self destructive brain pattern.

Oh are they? I'm so glad you have the definitive knowledge of who I am based solely on 2 forum posts. What a relief that someone so astute is around to confidently tell me who I am without ever having actually met me, or interacted with me beyond 2 posts on on internet forum. No wonder you have money to waste on the UrbanMech; with such advanced psychology skills, you must make a mint.

But then active intolerance in all its forms confuses me.

You mean like intolerance of people who share a viewpoint opposed to your own? Kind of like the rabid and frankly scary intolerance you're showing by throwing personal insults at someone who posted something you disagree with? That kind of active intolerance?

Believe it or not (and I understand you don't) people who don't share your love of the Urbie are not sub-human, or sub-intelligent, or socially crippled slack jawed drooling keyboard munchers just because they disagree with you. The fact that you don't understand this is, indeed, disgusting and pitiable.

I'll be making my purchase of the Urbie tonight, despite my teammate's disinterest in this little beast! :P Naysayers remember this when I kill you in my Urbies

My soul shall burn in hell, if I can keep the urbie safe.

Not just you specifically, I'm talking about all the idiots ragging on the urbanmech in the urb threads, and other instances where people specifically go somewhere, and complain about something they don't like.

Why are you here to complain about it if you don't like it?

Never answered that.

I'm not even talking about not liking the Urbanmech - if you don't like it, don't get it.
You're welcome to your opinions, but you just happened to be the one that on a particularly bad day, made the comment to break the camels back.
On top of you, others here and people on other topics, who don't like the thing but specifically go there to be ******* and don't add anything.

You don't make counterarguments, you don't give reasons, just loads of you going 'lol it sucks, you suck, it shouldn't be'.
Urby or not, it's something we enjoy, so leave us to it and go enjoy something you enjoy.

Perhaps Urbanmechs could work like zerglings where we'd get two Urbanmechs per light slot.

Only if it applies to Locusts, Commandos, Spiders and Panthers too. :/

Also, because I've been bored, exhausted and my brain told me it was a better idea than sleep, I've collated a list of everyone who has confirmed they've purchased an Urbanmech on the forum across several threads.

Here are the totals from that list:
Total stated 'Bought' (Assumed Standard, could be Collectors): 87 Value: US$1,740 (GB£1,166)
Total Confirmed Standard: 30 Value: US$600 (GB£402)
Total Confirmed Collectors: 116 Value: US$4,640 (GB£3,109)

Total Confirmed Packs: 233 Value: US$6,980 (GB£4,677)
1 - This is within roughly 52 hours of it being available, and only confirmed purchases.
2 - 50% or greater of all packages purchased, that have been confirmed, are Collectors packs.

As of 6 hours ago (roughly 48 hours since it went up for sale) we have hit roughly 75% of the target needed to ensure it gets made.
We have another 8 days to get that remaining 25%.
