So since you say mechs and robots are interchangable, I guess you drive to work in your robot, you cad on your robot, and you shoot your robot. So now I understand why you call mechs, robots.
The whole point of language is communication but now people get different images of what you are describing since you use the words in a broad sense based on niche popular culture references. If you surveyed 1000 people in the US, how many people would have heard of Bubblegum Crisis or Mazinger Z? Well I guess based on your arguments, you would be correct in Japan and wrong in the US. Words tend to carry slightly different meanings based on the speaker and audience.

If we break it down, the "Mech' " isn't a robot. BUT the Targeting computer and other equipment on board is.
If we get a bit further away from it the "Mech" is no more a piloted mech then a car, airplane, or a bike is. If it is a piloted Robot then it ruins the whole definition of the word Robot unless the pilot was a robot... which then wouldn't be the vehicle that is one, but the pilot is...
A bit more specific and we can clearly say no it isn't a robot.
Also it is correct to say that mechs are not robots because there are AI piloted mechs in game. It'll get confusing.

RVN-3Ld (Drone)
A Capellan experimental unit in 3071 based on the RVN-3L, the cockpit weight is increase to 5 tons to accommodate the robotic drone control and the TAG and 1 heat sink are removed. These Mechs were operated by a AI controller known as The Broken. [8] BV (1.0) = ??, BV (2.0) = ??
also, Mech = Robot is the same way as a Plane = Drone for eg... Not really the same
ANYWAY of that topic.
Who here has there urbanmech build-built up? =3

No, that's a facetious attempt at a red herring using an association fallacy.
Remember, all x are y but not all y are x
You could say I drive to work in my mech and shoot my mech.
My computer isn't especially mechanical, with the only real moving parts being the fans and 1 hard drive, but you could at a stretch say I do CAD on a mech. (Though when drawing, using a mech pencil, then yes I would be).
However, there are still prerequisites for it to be a robot, in this case, it still needs to move, generally have limbs, etc.
And surveying 1000 people in 1 country is statistically irrelevant anyway.
But regardless, using robot in this instance invalidates nothing, and you're coming across more beligerant and stubborn than trying to find reasons for it to invalidate something, rather than looking at the facts.

Why?
Why?
The Urbanmech is displeased with such discord. Redeem yourself, and take the discussion of mechs vs robots to its rightfully linked thread elsewhere. Then, when you return, prostrate yourself in front of our avatar of destruction.
Or something. C'mon guys.

In fact, to directly tie it in:
If the Urbanmech is an independent entity, and does not require a pilot, does that not make the Urbanmech our robot overlord?

So you just stated why we are saying they are not robots, mechs require pilots.
Also the computer reference was from the quote you cited in support of your argument.
Most of your supporting quotes referenced Japanese pop culture hence I stated that you were right in Japan and wrong in the US.
Furthermore you can survey all 320 million people in the US and statistically speaking the results would probably be off by 0.1%, if I were to guess.
Anyway it's a word choice difference and there would be no changing your mind which word, mech or robot, would be more correct in this context. Webster Dictionary added irregardless as a synonym to regardless because enough people kept using it even though it wasn't a real word nor technically correct.
As a Nuclear and Electrical Engineer I've worked on, trouble shot and programmed many robots but have yet to see a mech in person, in context of this thread and general community. I stated that since you clearly explained that robots were a sunset of mechs.
Back to the main topic, was disappointed PGI pushed back the release date to April. Was originally slated for 3/17 when I bought the CE package the first day.

I never once said otherwise.
However, in a broad sense, both in popular culture, non western culture, and fiction, Mechs / Mecha are commonly referred to as robots, and claiming peoples arguments are invalid for doing so, is both pedantic and a little childish.
Also - it was always April.
If you listen to the Town Hall pre-announcement, they said it will be released in april, and made jokes about it.
If it said 3/17, that would have been an error, now fixed.
Hence my Countdown Clock:

Three and a half weeks to go.
- Also, I'm IS again : D

They focused me down because of the fear I evoked even as just a facsimile of the real thing.
Still made 31 points, though.
