I drop solo because i play for fun and relaxing, i get my challenges in rl.

I dont understand the competive part some talk about in a game, my competition results show their numbers on my bank-account not on a virtual sheet in a game.
But i am aware that everyone has its own expectations for his life.

And i dont want to have fixed dates for my sparetime.
Sometimes i can play a whole day, sometimes i drop and have to leave after a few minutes because something happens thats more important than a virtual computer game that i play for fun.

Using the numbers PGI supplied for "Launches":

84% Solo -> 84 Players
8% 2-Player -> 16 Players
4% 3-Player -> 12 Players
4% 4-Player -> 16 Players

44 Players in Groups, 128 Total. 44/128 = 0.34, or ~34%.

Out of 100 players, 84 play solo, 8 players are in 2 mans, 4 in 3 mans, 4 in 4mans: 16% groupplayers

But only pgi knows the real numbers, we just speculate with the few pieces of information we get ...

And it doesnt matter if it is 16% or 34%, its still the minority.

Personally I struggle with any defense of PGI's corporate communications. I can see where they might be going with some things, but most of the time I just shake my head and say, no, no, no, no,no.

They are far from alone though. Plenty of companies have done worse, but oh well. I digress.

Back on subject now :(

You're highlighting a key issue with the representation of the data - if it actually represents "Players" then you're correct. However if it represents "Launches" then my calculations stand (since one launch of a 4-player group actually has 4 players, whereas one solo launch only contains one player).

Furthermore, isolating the data presumes that players play exclusively in their category (IE: group players only group and never PUG and vice versa for PUGs). However, that has been shown to be false. If we assume that the average player who plays in a group spends their time 50/50 between group and solo drops, the number of players that are sometimes part of a group rises to ~52% of the population.

Regardless, discounting the opinions of 16% of your playerbase is a poor business practice (especially considering that research shows that players who are part of a group/clan/build/corporation tend to represent a large percent of a F2P game's income).

No, actually, they're elected by a skewed representation of 17th century bargaining ideals. The majority gets a feel-good vote that doesn't count. Just sayin'.

Some of the companies are finally 'Gettting it". SOE with their open communications with their fans are getting it, Trion is starting to. But still, there are many companies that insist that their consumers be just that, consumers, not thinkers.

I don't always drop solo but when I do;

-I don't have any friends online
-A 4-man is already complete with no others waiting, so I solo till a spot is open or more arrive. (dice roll!)
-I'm adjusting video/driver settings (Adjusting for Crossfire all the time!~! Wish PGI would just add that and SLi support already !)
-Leveling a new mech, match to death exit relaunch. More Matches per hour = C-Bills!
-PGI Solo tournaments/events

Most importantly when I'm building mechs, this I do away from groups for obvious reasons. :(

Hello Craig!

This is a given, been that way since forever, heck twitter is the new "official" information release.

Niko is the sole PGI affiliation that actually communicates (regularly) with the players. Bless his soul! :P

Not to mention the completely disregarded 12-mans when calculating "team players %". False positives are still false.

I drop solo because I tire of the constant rage quitting, the whining and useless blame associated with losses teams face. I can suck solo and I'm the cause, I need to improve. If the team fails they, too, need to determine why and what needs to be done to correct the problem. In most cases, it's a matter of working together as often as possible to form a cohesive unit capable of executing plans as a team not a bunch of NBA All-Stars.

And I grind a lot.

I drop solo because most of my friends who used to play no longer do, because it was too hard to play together.

Although, to be honest, I've pretty much abandoned playing myself as well.

Just killing time until the dog fighting module is released.

1000x this. I don't play solo anymore, only when the last person in my group is online (and when there is free stuff to be had). Yup, my clan has finally given up on MWO.

They also said that 84% of all players that drop, drop solo. If you go by that you don't need to make up numbers.

Why does your total come up to 128 players which would account for 5.33 matches? It makes no sense because you are grasping at straws. And if you think that PGI numbers are so unreliable you shouldn't use ANY of them instead of cherry-picking numbers and words to fit in you narrow view.

I drop solo for the following reasons:

1 - Test a 'mech build and its behavior when in combat
2 - Upgrade a 'mech (Leveling it)
3 - Participating in one of the many PGI sponsored Solo-ONLY activities
4 - Testing my main 'mechs after a recent patch
5 - Wanting to drop as many matches as possible while in a limited time-frame window
6 - Sync-dropping with a 4-player group because I wish to continue my conversation with my friends while we play
7 - My 4-man (12-man) match crashed and I want to squeeze a match while the other one isn't finished
8 - Only have 4 or 8 mates online on TS who are less experienced. I let them make their 4-man group and practice teamwork together while I drop solo until another buddy comes online
9 - When I just want to grind money and play for myself instead of the team (assists, savior kills, etc)

But whining and rage quitting is usually from solo players. The team players are too busy laughing about it on VoIP. :(

As it currently is, pugs cannot 'determine why they lost and correct the problem' because every match is a new team, so nothing is collectively learned. Maybe this will change with lobbies.
