Each AMS takes down 6 or so missiles directed towards you, so you're only taking out at least 10. If an LRM50 volley hits you, you're still taking 44 damage.

AMS grouped together can thin out salvos though.

Ammo explosion damage is based on rounds remaining multiplied by damage per round. I could be wrong, but I believe that at 1000 rounds per ton, AMS ammo would do more than 20.

Huh, whadyya know? I've never actually noticed that chart on smurfy before. I had considered that the damage was likely reduced by a significant margin from the damage the AMS did, as 3.5 damage per round seemed extreme, but I was unaware of how much. I must say that 0.024 seems a rather odd number to settle on.
