I think Scabrous is forgetting the glory and elegance of Nippon make any weapon they used superior to the dirty gaijin. (I'm not a sword guy, but isn't the technical marvel of the katana that they managed to make ****** metal reserves barely usable in a sword?)

Also, yeah The Mittani is House Liao is House of Lowtax is Heir to the Inner Sphere. Deal with it.

I can't believe I'm about to get back into swordchat (More Rage ITT) But yeah basically, there's actually a couple interesting anomalies Japanese warfighting like their emphasis on armoured mobility over protection despite the fact that their armoured elite traditionally fight from horseback like Europeans, and the shockingly low draw strength of their bows. And you know, giving up gunpowder. The swords aren't that interesting, they're a minor technical innovation to create the best weapon they could considering the poor resources they had and in the end they've got serious flaws outside their specific niche like their tendency to warp or snap when subjected to off-centre forces leading to a huge emphasis in Japanese swordfighting combat arts on dodging and first strikes. This is ******* well what happens with sword chat *********.

Swords are ******* swords, metal things with edges and the shape dictates its purpose some ******* youtube video isn't gonna change the fact that basically every sword wielding society uses similar weapons for similar things: sabres, katanas, scimitars are all designed for mostly unarmoured targets because the curve gives you a better sweep and more cutting power. This is the same damn reason that saumurai on the battlefield fighting against other samurai on the battlefield used Yari, bows, and lances and for the most part swords were a peasants weapon on the battlefield because you use unarmored peasants vs other unarmored peasants.

All the fancy ******* art that went into the sport fighting among samurai basically trying to one up one another off the field of battle (and frankly Miyamoto Mushashi beating down a bro with a paddle is as close to peak oneupmanship as you can get) doesn't change that. Hell, the design of the katana pretty much ensures all of those techniques were ~bushido as ****~ accept your death to kill your target **** because if you didn't hit them the first time the blade wasn't designed for a backhand or anything else but for cutting down peasants from horseback.

Likewise european societies when confronted with armored targets developed crossbows, halberds, lances, and longbows and when two men who were wearing armour and had swords beat the **** out of one another it was an odd and extraordinary thing and mostly ended up with them wrestling in the mud trying to stick daggers through their eyeslits.

This.

Why are all the mittens threads going byebye?

Those threads were someone using suicide accounts to say some very unkind, and more importantly, massively code-of-conduct-breaching things about Mittani's life and what he should do about it and how long it should last. Hence they got blasted.

And you know, that's the height of compliments, when people can work themselves into such knots via some kind of arcane Internet Rage Yoga.

That's right. I'm sure we'll see plenty of disciples coming along to do it (and be moderated away) again, and again.

Yes but that's no indicator of how a longsword vs katana would perform against 'mech armor

All this talk of swords is distracting us from discussing how Tetatae claws and harpoon guns will work against mech armour. Clearly the designers need to account for this important factor.

The noble Tetatae has a bite strength of enough force to slice clean through ferro-fibrous armor. In the early days of the People's Revolution it was a common tactic for flocks of noble Tetatae warriors to swarm an enemy Loyalist mech and chew through the cockpit with their beaks, to get to the pilot inside.

The harpoon guns aren't as good against battlemechs in comparison. :P

If Star Wars is any indication, all we need to kill battlemechs is ropes and logs.

Discussion on your forums indicates otherwise.

"As far as forums go, the MWO forums are considerably less vitriolic than other community forums (swtor, diablo). It's almost refreshing to see such stability. I'm glad goons are there to upset the balance and get idiots going."

I mean, some of you are cool and discuss everything normally, but some really just troll the people around here.

While a link may not be involved, jacking posts wholesale from another forum with the express purpose of re-posting them here, especially when they are referring to the MWOMERCS forums in any negative or disparaging light, can be cited as a violation of both the cross-linking and defamatory clauses of the code of conduct. I hope this information has made your day a little brighter, little buddy! :)

As I was asked to look into this, the thread Adridos posted was by no means negative or defamatory. In fact it was very complimentary. It did not violate the Code of Conduct.

The thread needs to return to the original posters intent. Why should 514yer, or anyone , choose House Liao?

Let's keep it civil and on track. Please do not be the first to off topic post or derail again.

Thank you.

Cheers.

Ah, thank you very much for the clarification Helmer. You are a good mod!

Cool reasons to join the Capellan Confederation include: having fun with cool friends in a chill place for buddies.

In another army you might get yelled at for stuff and that's pretty uncool, we here at the Capellan Confederation think it's better to 'take it slow', 'take it easy', 'rock the shades and hang ten', you might say we are 'pretty tubular!'

Pictured here: a chill Capellan Mechwarrior 'TCBing' ( Taking Care Of Party Approved And Accepted Business Practices Relating To The Maintenance And Care Of Hair, Facial Or Otherwise.) in his cool battlebot! Do you not want to be just like him?

Anyway another reason to roll Liao. Namely you've tried everything else. On reflection that's honestly one of my main reasons, I've either played Mechwarrior games or used TT units with other house backrounds, Liao is the only one I hadn't spent much time with. After a bit of getting into the spirit of things I found I liked it a great deal.

What else would you use to have cool chats with your best capellan buds in the far flung future of the 31st century?

Edit: I like how roomy and un-cramped most battlemech cockpits are in the canon, if you gotta sit in a hot seat all day it might as well have a lot of legroom. The games always make them really small, like fighter jet cockpits.

Some even have room to stand, a small mini-fridge and occasionally even a head.

This is basically the main reason the IS is better than the clans, because clan cockpits are notoriously ****** to be in for the weeks at a time the fluff implies.
