I remember seeing the BattleMaster in MW2 while playing as CJF and thinking that it looked stupid. I was very happy to destroy them. ;)

The Tarantula, though, I thought was kinda cool.

Pfft, if you don't like the original BattleTech mechs, then you don't like BattleTech! So :D :P :P :P

So, the Timberwolf is an iconic mech, and the clans are sweet and all, but I just don't get why its so darn popular.

I've never been a big fan of it, especially when there are other clan heavies, like the Loki, Cauldron-born, and Grizzly, that have a much more special place in my heart. I like the Mad Dog more than the Timberwolf too. The inner sphere heavies have their own charm, and i love the dragon, the catapult, and I really love the Argus.

So tell me, what is it about the 'Mad Cat' (still hate that name), that makes so many people go nuts for it? Or what heavy do you like better and why?

Please discuss...

It's just iconic, that's all. Given a choice I would trade it for a Mad Dog or Warhawk in an instant.

Love the Mechwarrior 2 intro

"Alpha Assault, what is your situation?"

"In deep SHI-"

It's the most iconic mech EVER. And also it's one of those mechs that, no matter the MW game, you'd see and think "Owww...damn, this will be a tough one...".

I can already see how ppl. would react when the Clans finally make it into MWO and they encounter their first Madcat on the battlefield ;) This will be one of those "what the...>GAME OVER<" moments.

The Timberwolf is an "everything" mech. It had every advanced technology (CXL engine, Ferro-Fibrous armor, and Endo-Steel internals), near-max armor, great mobility, and really good firepower. It was also the hero mech of the hero Clan, so it gets some fans there. It doesn't do anything wrong, really, and does quite a bit right.

I have a couple Clan Heavies I like more, but I don't value mobility as highly as some other players. The Night Gyr and Nova Cat are both exceptional, for instance. Those two and the T-wolf would be my top three for the Clan heavies.

Powergaming + Poster child for the games where you are a single pilot taking on an army.
Personally I prefer the cougar more in terms of clan mechs.

Always loved the look of the Marauder and with the Clan Invasion, the Mad Cat. Add to that their payloads and both have always had a special spot in my heart.

The Timberwolf (Madcat), is a non-cannon fan created mech that has never been published in any books, games or miniatures lines.

But it fills the fandoms need to feel that they can help contribute to the franchise and as such it has become a fan favorite.

Because it is the ultimate munchkin machine. Anyone can jump in and be good with it.

They disgust me.

Because of the intro of MechCommander. Also because of tried to reload over a hundred times to get the cat on the 4th mission of MC1(no equipments lost at all) has something to do with it.

MC1 becomes a cakewalk if you snag that lil beauty :P

For a lot of people who missed the 80s the mad cat was probably one of the first mechs we were initiated with so it has a place in the heart of many I think.

I personally think this is do to a mix of the T-Wolf's good looks and impressive payload. When the 'Mech debuted, it had awesome speed for a 75 ton machine, a lot of armor, and each configuration had devastating firepower. Throw in the Omni ability to customize at will, and you have one insane machine.

The Timber Wolf stands for the Clans as no other Mech.

Madcat could also be seen as a big FU to Harmony Gold, which has a ring of justice to it. That alone should bring the Clan haters around, unless they are HG employees of course. Because as opposed to the original unseen Mechs (that's your toys IS boys), the Madcat is untouchable and extremely popular with the folks out there. If everything else fails, this Mech will remain standing. Madcat = defiance.

Gotta love it.

Because it kinda looks like a Marauder, but wasn't stolen from Macross.
